((OOC: SO this thread is primarily between Delilah and David, so unless you're invited to participate, this thread is to determine the status of the alliance with Crows and Dragons))
Deep within Dragon Territory...
...a show of good will, on the Crows part, for choosing the meeting place to be where the Dragon's would be most comfortable. Delilah could have easily requested a place within the neutral territories to meet to make it on more even ground. But that wasn't the point of this alliance anyway, that both sides had equal power. She wanted to show them that the Crows made their allies' comfort a priority, another reason why she had arrived in their territory in such haste. She owed them that. David and the Dragons had shown her much trust over the past few months and things seemed to be going well...
But David's message, the tone it was written with, worried her. That only helped to hasten her steps, the sash tied in it's usual place around her arm.
She would stop a grunt, smiling politely. "First Black of Crows looking for Elder Blaze."
Using formal titles, but dressed for war, as she usually was. though she was cleaner cut, more polished and refined, a sword at her hip instead of her knives. Head held high with pride, but her stature indicated her more humble tendencies as she waited for David. There was a nervous flutter in her stomach that she quelled with a determined push.
What could he want?

The man bowed and, without saying a word, walked over to a blackjack table and started dealing cards to another soldier just outside the gates of the Peace Cafe compound. The gates opened, Annalise staring at Delilah, stone faced. Her blonde hair tied in a braid, her face was a chalky white as she looked Delilah over a moment, turning her eyes to the ground as David walked around the corner and out the gate.
At his left hip was his training blade, over his right shoulder, his Not-so-training blade. He handed some papers to Annalise, muttering "Get it done" before turning to Delilah, the ghost of a smile on his lips that did not reach his eyes.
"Delilah. Thanks for coming so quickly. If you could follow me, please."
And instead of walking IN to the compound, be walked out, heading back the way they came, into the well lit streets of Dragon Territory. People were better dressed, wood piling up outside homes. Hammer meeting nail. He spoke as they walked, gesturing here and there.
"Men. Women. Children. They come from far to the north and east to live here. To settle in safety. They wear the sashes we hand out proudly, as they rebuild homes. Lives. I look out at them and I think to myself- I think about how much I wouldnt give to see my own family one day, building a house with me. In safety. It is that which Im Doing this for. For my future children. For your Oliver. Yet, so many doubts and problems are thrown my way... Sometimes... I just want to give up."
Taking a left, before them would be a large warehouse. He gestured, the door flying open on the side. He would walk in and close the door behind Delilah, turning back and letting out a little breath.
"Delilah- do the Crows plan to make war with us?"

OOC: Here with David's blessing.
IC: David wasn't the only one alerted to the presence of Delilah and the meeting. A meeting that seemed to be for her and David, something that he took exception too seeing as how like David he was also one of the Elder Dragons. The three Elders ruled together, each with their own strengths and perspectives.
He was going to allow David his meeting, but not his privacy. He intended to know exactly what was up, and so he shadowed David, underground and silent. He would listen in, and find out just what was going on.
His next move from there, that would depend entirely on what he heard and what is going on. He would keep his presence unknown for the time being. He was just an observer.

Delilah nodded at Annalise, smiling at the stony faced blonde woman. She seemed on edge. Or was that just Delilah's uneasiness playing with her?
Her eyes drifted down and Delilah looked towards the movement at the gate, nodding politely as David rounded the corner. He was similarly dressed as she was. For war. She exchanged smiles with him, but felt a shock move through her at the lack of warmth in his face. Her stomach sank about a foot. This did not bode well.
"Delilah. Thanks for coming so quickly. If you could follow me, please."
"It was no trouble," she replied modestly enough. "Lead the way."
She followed him away from the compound, sparing a parting glance backward for Annalise. The tension David was emitting was palpable, making her hackles raise. His power only increased the strength of his intent, putting her in flight or fight mode. She held her ground, pushing her instincts aside. She trusted David. She trusted the Dragons.
They walked past homes as they were being built, looking at the people building them. It brought a smile to her lips, seeing people thrive the way they were. Good for them.
"Men. Women. Children. They come from far to the north and east to live here. To settle in safety. They wear the sashes we hand out proudly, as they rebuild homes. Lives. I look out at them and I think to myself- I think about how much I wouldn't give to see my own family one day, building a house with me. In safety. It is that which Im Doing this for. For my future children. For your Oliver. Yet, so many doubts and problems are thrown my way... Sometimes... I just want to give up."
She remained silent as she followed him, listening to him speak, taking it all in. She could feel that intent perched, ready to strike as it lay beneath the surface.
The warehouse door opened with a bang and Delilah tried not to flinch. She followed him in without hesitating, hearing the door click back into place behind her. She suddenly felt trapped. He sighed and she focused on him, her face a calm, impassive mask.
"Delilah- do the Crows plan to make war with us?"
Her calm expression faltered into one of utmost bewilderment. What in the name...?
"Of course not!" she replied instantly, politely bewildered. That would never work, the armies would destroy each other with the likely winner being the Dragons. Even if the Crows were planning to attack, Delilah would have put a stop to it herself. They were allies. She and David were friends. Never in life would she attack a friend or allow anyone else to harm them.
"What makes you think that?" she was almost afraid to hear the answer. His anger was righteous. She understood that much. But why.

He turned his back on her, a chill crawling over the air. He ran bother hands through the silk softness of his hair, putting his hands on his hips as he did so. Did he believe her? He wanted to. He licked his lips and tried to respond as kindly as she did, back still to her.
"On December sixth, nineteen forty one, Japanese ambassadors were in counsel with the American consule, standing even before congress and hinted at no indication of war. In fact, they postured peace. As they did so, a score of Cruisers and Carriers and planes were halfway to pearl harbor, and even as they bombed American battleships, they pretended as though nothing was amiss."
He turned back toward her in a rush, the sound of the following shout echoing through the building, wind whipping at his clothes, kicking up a little dust.
"DON'T LIE TO ME LIKE THAT DELILAH- I'LL NOT BE MADE A FOOL OF!" He kicked a rickety chair that sat near him, sending it flying into a wall to shatter there as he growled.
"You stand in front of me, the second in command of your Military, with nkthing substantial. I believe you when you say you want to be friends, to have no war. But i sure as hell don't believe the Crows themselves agree with you. I have tried Time after Time to make something happen- instead, your group just looks for new blood and other alliances. The Gods, the expiraments, maybe? I mean come on- you can't SERIOUSLY think we are gonna just sit around twiddling our thumbs, waiting for the great Crows to come up and say 'Well, i suppose you are all thats left so lets be friends', do you?"
He paced, anger alight in his features.
"Do you have any fucking idea how big a fool you guys have made me look? How I have tried to fight for you and your men before Mathew and the Dragon Core?"

She watched him turn his back and another warning prickle brought up goosebumps over her skin. She forced herself not to shudder. She knew what was coming. Instead, Delilah calmly put her hands behind her, clasping them at the small of her back. Listening. The stoic mask was gone, a different one in place. A genuine one of concern.
He began to turn back towards her and she braced herself. She could feel his Qi engage of it's own accord. It made her bristle internally. She didn't let it show outwardly.
"DON'T LIE TO ME LIKE THAT DELILAH- I'LL NOT BE MADE A FOOL OF!"
She listened to him rage, letting him, her eyes never leaving his. Again, his anger was justified, and it made her feel sick, even as she raged internally at being talked to like that. But that was her pride speaking. Her station with Crows, her warrior nature. That had no place in a time like this.
He was right. He was right about all of it. Except the war part, but that was obvious.
He finished, glowering at her, rage alight in his features. She was still for a moment before letting out a long sigh, lifting her hand to pinch the bridge of her nose. What a mess. Her mess.
And it was up to her to fix it.
She dropped her hands from her back, walking towards him slowly, non-threateningly, head level, face impassive. She would stop three feet from him and bow, low at the waist with her eyes on the ground, holding it for a full fifteen seconds before straightening. Looking him dead in the eye.
"Then hit me."
She took her sword from her belt and laid it to the side, eyes not moving from his. She was serious. "I failed you. As a friend, as an ally, as a comrade.
"I take full responsibility for the inaction of Crows. I have insulted your integrity and your honour as well as the esteem of your station by standing by and doing nothing. Please." she stepped closer, expression the same, though her eyes seemed to soften slightly, signaling it was okay. She wanted this. It was deserved.
She was fully aware David could kill her with a punch, with much less if he wanted to. She was willingly putting her life in his hands. If she died...well, what of that? She already had a bad feeling about all this from the get go and made it clear to the others within Crows that she would handle this her way. Her responsibility. Her rules.
"Hit me."

David stared at her for a long period of time before clenching his teeth, his eyes turning to steel. He cocked back a fist.... Then, he had a flashback- long ago, when Unfettered once asked him to do that same thing.
Letting out a roar he turned and punched the wall, blowing a cannonball sized hole in the wood....and the house next to it.... And the side of a car door after that. He looked down at his fists, back again to Delilah. He clenched them, and unclenched them.
"I do not hit my friends unless they deserve it. And i have yet to decide if you deserve it."
A small smile, which faded.
"I want this nightmare to end. To be free of this responsibility. I watch these....civilians. I can't help but desire what They have. Their release of all necessities. They just build, and work, and clean, and live. I wanted so much to see my people and yours, smiling to one another. Our kids chasing yours. A Crow helping a Dragon build his house, a Dragon fixing a Crows Car. I wasted so much time and energy and thought on it, Delilah. Why hasn't Unfettered or Kiyoshi taken my hand in friendship?"
He turned to her, eyes liquid now.
"None of my men, save Annalise, give a damn about your people. They have always said you dont care for us, dont care for what we are or have been or will be. That you fear we are a threat. I try and explain that our enemies are the same, but they scoff and ignore and... They suggest things. Things im not sure I am against anymore."
He stepped to her and took her by the shoulders.
"Delilah- im beginning to feel like there is no hope for it, and I am very nearly ready to abandon all attempts, condemn any Crow found in our territory to death or imprisonment like some want, and move on to other things. I cant disconnect ties with the Crows and not assume spying may take place, or skirmishes- that is the way of war. And though I would like to stand with you guys... Well, do YOU see things changing?"
He stared directly into her eyes.
"Delilah- can you look me in the face and tell me something will happen soon?" He would wait for a response.

The silence was deafening. Where David was a tumultuous storm of frustrated emotion, she was a sea of calm, her piercing blue eyes locked on his steel-grey eyes. She kept her eyes on him, shoulders falling slightly as he cocked back his fist. Prepared for the blow.
He roared and she felt her muscles flex instinctively in spite of herself, bracing for the impact. She heard the crash of his fist through the wood. She turned her head, shaking slightly, looking through the hole that burrowed through the house beside it and into the parked car on the other side of that." I do not hit my friends unless they deserve it. And i have yet to decide if you deserve it." She looked back at David, eyes wide. Just the sheer power from that full strength blow made her extremely glad that she wasn't on the receiving end of that. Even so, she was dismayed by not being hit, feeling that the score hadn't been settled. On the other hand, he did not betray her trust. Delilah understood this was a second chance. For that, she was grateful and immensely humbled." I want this nightmare to end. Why hasn't Unfettered or Kiyoshi taken my hand in friendship?" Her heart went out to him, seeing the pain on his face, understanding immediately where he was coming from. He wanted what they had. His people. He wanted to have a normal life free of what burdens Barker placed on them.
It wasn't any different from what she wanted." None of my men, save Annalise, give a damn about your people. They have always said you dont care for us, dont care for what we are or have been or will be. That you fear we are a threat. I try and explain that our enemies are the same, but they scoff and ignore and... They suggest things. Things im not sure I am against anymore." She didn't recoil or move back as he stepped forward, placing hands on her shoulders. They were still warm with the remnants of his anger. Delilah just looked him in the eye, watching him and his expressions closely, listening to the earnest tone in his voice. Still refraining from speaking until he was finished." Delilah- im beginning to feel like there is no hope for it, and I am very nearly ready to abandon all attempts, condemn any Crow found in our territory to death or imprisonment like some want, and move on to other things. I cant disconnect ties with the Crows and not assume spying may take place, or skirmishes- that is the way of war. And though I would like to stand with you guys... Well, do YOU see things changing?" They stared at each other. His words didn't surprise her, but they did fill her with dread. A war with the Dragons was the stupidest thing either side could do in her mind. The fact that Crows had thus far done nothing to alleviate it was enough to make her grit her teeth. Were her own efforts all for naught, then?
She refused. She outright refused to let that be a detriment to the peace she foresaw.
Perhaps it's time I take matters into my own hands." Delilah- can you look me in the face and tell me something will happen soon?" Her face eased into a slow smile. Perhaps she could do one better than that.
For Delilah, actions spoke so much louder than words. She lifted her right hand to his left, the one on her shoulder and turned it over to his palm was facing up but still resting on her shoulder. Her left hand drew her tanto knife and she pressed the edge against her right palm. Blood immediately poured from the wound, and as she pulled her knife away, there would be a considerable gash in her palm. It would match the now healed scar on her left palm.
Attrition. For failure.
Slowly, she raised her bleeding palm, laying it on top of Davids as she resheathed her knife. She removed her hand quickly, leaving a rivlut of her blood in his palm.
A promise. Putting her life in his hands.
Her left hand went behind her head, pulling away the clip that held her hair in place. Her hair cascaded over her shoulders. Taking her hair in both her hands, Delilah would take David's hand pressing her hair against it and wiping away her blood until it was gone. Finally, she would rip free the bottom section of her shirt, tying it around her new wound, cinching the knot with her teeth.
Subservience. An indication of her value of him as a friend and an ally. Taking his needs into consideration before hers.
She bowed again at the waist at a 45 degree angle, eyes low, fixed on his sternum, speaking softly.
“Sessha no meiyo-jo no, chikai masu de gosaimasu.” <On This One’s honour, I swear it.>
The same oath she had given Kiyoshi, resulting in her being promoted to First Crow. The oath had given her the strength and drive to go above and beyond her abilities. Hell, it even brought her to build alliances, friendships with these Dragons.
It would serve as a promise of herself and her ability. She took responsibility. Her life was as much David's as it was Kiyoshi's or "Unfettered"'s.
She straightened slowly, a mild smile on her face. Her eyes, however, were serious.
"Tell me what you want and it is done. Otherwise, I will send aid to help your civilians build housing and gather a sustainable food supply. I will also send several of our officers to help with training your new recruits, some from the military, to give them a strong base to strengthen your forces. I can arrange for this to begin tomorrow."
So sayeth Delilah. Even if she wound up having to do it all herself, she would. But she had a feeling "Unfettered" agreed with her on this. And she would make it happen, even if it was 'impossible'.
"And that Barker force we saw building up a couple weeks ago...if we were attacked, we would be honored to have you fight along side us. If that force is turned on you, I can pledge our troops to come to your aid as well."
For the Dragons. For Crows. For David. For peace.OOC: This is for context and reference only.
“de gosaimasu” is the most formal way of using “desu” and was most often used by samurai. It’s a strong verb that can mean “it will be done” or “so it shall be”, but is hard to translate in English when out of context.
Delilah's use of "Sessha" here also indicates her subservience. By refering to herself as "this one", she indicates that she is not worthy of refering to herself as "I" or any other stong pronoun. While the Japanese tend to infer that they are speaking about themselves, using "this one" is particularly humbling.
Also: =D?!

David stared at Delilah for a long while, weighing her words. As he had indicated previously, she was second in command. It is possible she could make such things happen. But the problem was public validity. Having her troops come in now, without warrant or recognition for the leaders of them-? Well, it would only cause further frustration. Still, he understood what she was trying to say, and the conviction behind them.
A small smile came to his lips.
"We don't need the help, in rebuilding. Necessity was never the point. Community, comraderie, brother and sisterhood. It is for these reasons I would want our people together. Having men come now, with no legitimate or official declaration of an alliance would cause the people and the Dragon core to faulter. They would think I, Mathew and Leon didn't believe in ourselves or in them. That we were...or are, afraid. They would also see it as admitting you and the Crows are superior, and we rely on you. In the end, it would be counter productive to the cause."
He toyed with the end of his sword hilt a moment, staring out through the opening his fist had made.
"I know you mean well, and I know it's unjust for my anger to be turned on you. If you had a choice, I believe we could have a treaty signed this afternoon. But the problem is, that authority likely lies with Jon, or Kiyoshi. I suppose i...misdirected my frustrations at you because you are who I have been dealing with so far. I am... Sorry. But it needs to be made known that my position with the Crows is becoming fragile, and soon I will have run out of good reasons to press an alliance. Maybe Mister Winters will accept that. Maybe not. I am near past the point of caring."
He let out a deep breath.
"My word and alliance with you still stands, Delilah. But from here on out, I will not press an alliance on my Elder brothers, and our offer for a treaty is withdrawn. If the Zeros want something from us, they can come and ask for it. That includes Resources such as trade and...men. There will be no assistance from us- save in a case from my previous offer to you- in whcih case, you know who must come and ask for that assistance. I must now focus solely on our men and territories, and with defeating Barker."
He left unsaid that he felt that was one thing the crows were doing little of- fighting Barker. The Dragons territory was bulging outward, growing daily. And he hopes the Crows would expand with them. But, his hope was lost, replaced by an iron determination and focus. In his mind, The Dragons were now the sole militaristic franchise fighting the madman. And he would continue to believe so until proven otherwise.

Delilah watched him carefully as he spoke, the hopeful smile gradually falling from her face as he basically went on to tell her that her actions, her reassurances, her hopes...her friendship was not enough to save this alliance.
There was a horrible empty feeling deep in the pit of her stomach and a familiar prickle behind her eyes. After all that, for naught. She had failed now, twice in the same day. She had failed the Dragons and she had failed the Crows. It stung to say the least. If this were feudal Japan, having her word and her promise dismissed so thoroughly would have likely led to her committing seppuku. Fortunately, that wasn't Delilah's style.
So, there was still a little hope, then. But not enough to renew the smile to Delilah's face.
She took a measured step back, out of his arms reach. She ultimately respected his decision, understood it, sympathized with it. But it didn't make her feel any less rotten inside. Her right hand clenched into a fist over the rag she used to staunch her cut as a flare of anger rose inside her. She quashed it quickly, determined not to let the spark catch, make her do something she would regret. She forced a smile to her lips that did not touch her eyes.
"I understand." she said softly after a time. Her eyes pricked at the corners and she ignored the sensation. It would not do to shed tears now. "And thank you for continuing to show your friendship towards me."
The smile suddenly dropped from her face and her eyes became hard, ice blue chips set in stone. This was all Crow and no Delilah now. She was still in there somewhere, and it was that part of her that valued her friendship with David so much that she did not simply take the sash off her arm and hand it back to him. She would never do that: she could only imagine how much it would have insulted him. "But know this, David Blaze.
"We are not going to attack you. Ever. Never in life would there be a more idiotic thing than to wage war with each other while Barker is still a controlling force in this world, our personal relationships aside. Whether or not the leadership of the Dragons chooses to believe that is their perogative: I can prove it simply by not doing it.
"This world is much give and take. Dragons are indeed a strong and formidable force. You don't need help from anyone else. Being able to accept the hand of friendship in spite of that, letting allies help allies without any politics holding them back, is true strength. That is harmony and that is peace."
Which, in Delilah's mind, David had essentially shot down that olive branch with a canon. That was probably overly dramatic and a large exaggeration, though, which was why she didn't say it. She didn't dare. Too much respect for David, Mathew and Leon and their legacy here.
She drew herself up and she shed the demure modesty like a cloak falling away from her shoulders, flint still in her eyes. "My offer still extends to yourself and the Dragons. Your people are welcome in our territory, as they have been since our last meeting. Your people are welcome to our resources and our aid, should they have need of them. Your people will be treated with the utmost kindness and respect if they do so happen to wander into our lands, as if they were Crows themselves.
"If one of your people is in danger, we will stop at nothing to help them, even at risk of capture from your own forces. Why?
"Because we are human. Because that's what good kind people do in spite of strife. We will not merely survive or exist. We will live as if what Barker has done will never affect us."
Her breath threatened to hitch on those last couple of words and she fought it down. Later, later... Her voice, which had grown progressively more vehement (though not louder and not disrespectful by any means) rang off the walls of the warehouse. She was silent for a moment before speaking again, quieter now, her tone more neutral, even friendly. The 'Crow' countenance was gone, leaving only Delilah in her wake.
"...Thank you for your time, David. I'm sorry this couldn't end better. I'll see you soon," And with that, Delilah would spin on her heel, taking her leave of the warehouse and of Dragon territory unless she was stopped.

He listened, not tqlking throughout, giving her the same respect she gave him. She was wrong, in some things, but he didn't say anything- for instance, allowing allies to help each other without politics is simple, when viewed from an outside standpoint. But internally, the Dragons have been battling and clashing with Barkers forces for months, and many questions by the people and soldiers as to why the Crows didnt want to align themselves with the Dragons festered. To simply state that they would help each other without an alliance would cause people to question why they would allow such a thing to a group who seemed to turn up their noses at them.
As she turned away, his voice carried a whisper to her ears, unheard by any listening parties.
"I'm sorry too."
He crouched and ran his fingers through dirt, closing his eyes and setting his jaw. Speaking to the silence, he said: "You can come out now."
The talk with Delilah was no secret, and know Leon and Mathew, one of them would likely be skulking in the dark. And if not them, then one of their little puppies, like Kiyr. The girl was a nearly perfect spy, and could be stuck in his shadow for all he knew. But whoever it was, he would still like to share a few words with them.

Mathew continued to listen to everything from below, though he didn't get to see her gesture with the blood. Not that it would have really mattered if he had. It was nice symbolism, but just that. Symbolic. It didn't really mean anything. Just a lot of pretty words. He heard and felt her footsteps leaving David alone, but he still did not move from his position, he was waiting to be called for.
And David did not disappoint, whether or not he knew Mathew was there in particular or if he was just guessing he still told him that he could come out now. It was tempting to just not right away, just to fuck with him. Never know when he is there or not, but he imagined David would want to talk about what just happened, and that meant it was business.
The ground would not shake or stir at all, no need to announce that he was coming out to anyone who might be outside. He would just silently slide out of the ground behind David Blaze, his right hand moving up through his hair. He couldn't help but smile, this was a victory for him.
"You rang?"

. o O ( If there is a problem with her being there with no prior mention, just say. <3 I'll happily delete this. )
Kiyr hesitantly slipped out of the shadows within the warehouse, leaving how she got in there or how she knew this was where David was taking Delilah a secret. She was curious about the woman, and while it was good to know where they stood with the Crows, her purpose hadn't been to rifle around where she wasn't necessarily wanted.
Best to come clean, quickly.
Unlike Mathew, however, she didn't speak, mostly because she wasn't sure how she was being received on the matter.

He felt the air shift as Matt emerged, a small smirk gracing his lips as he stood, turning to face him.
"Weeeell. Looky here. I expected one of your puppies, but you came yourself! Awesome. Cuts out the middle man."
He gestured toward where Delilah had left.
"Thoughts?"
He didnt look in Kiyrs direction, focus solely on Amtrum.

"Are we calling them puppies now?"
He scratched the back of his head before shrugging. Whatever worked he supposed. Though he had figured David would be more the respectful using their names type. This whole apprentice thing was just shining all kinds of insight on the Dragons.
"And I have a lot of them. I think she means what she says on a personal level. But I don't think she really has the power to live up to her promises, and if she does, she couldn't stop the leaders from going back on that."
