First Day's Always The worst

[Xapham]

Xapham scoffed.

"Well you'd be correct, when people discovered their Qi abilities men became living weapons that dominated the battlefield. Many, many, people were slaughtered ruthlessly. With the discovery of Qi it also brought out the most wicked of scientist. Those began to run experiments on people and change them, physically and mentally, altering them to become even worse than the walking weapons that had come across. These things we call experiments, cause by the time all was said and done, most of them were barely even sentient anymore. Truly a sad story. Anyways, during the war Barker, the man that caused the end of the world was killed by John Strike. Once Barker was killed and there was no reason to stay united against Barker everyone sparated into their own territories and formed their own leaderships. Thus began a war against everyone and everything that wasn't your neighbor... Heh, and sometimes your neighbors too. Anyways, there was lots of petty fighting and killing until the leaders of the four largest groups, Zack Asiv of Cabal, John Strike of Prota, Alex Malice of Vindicta, and Lord Sorrel Kaizer of Zekunft, sat down together and made a formal agreement towards peace. These are called the Accords. Which is a group of rules, restrictions, and agreements that All 4 great territories have agreed. Should any break the accords then we will all be back at each others throats and fighting again. I wouldn't call it a new war though, I'd say that it would be the same one that we left off, its just been put on hold for the moment."

Xapham turned and went back to his seat.

[Malcomb Warhazzard]

"Whoa...okay. So experiments that cause people to have Qi? Also, the peace must be pretty ok, I heard Donovan say something about Prota and I know we're in Cabal. So the territories have to be cool enough with each other to allow that right?"

This raised so many more questions Mal hadn't even begun to think of just yet. That was an incredible amount of information given in a very short time. Mal became light-headed. He could see clear enough to continue asking questions.

"Also, what could be so powerful to make these people want peace so bad? If Barker is dead... is there a new enemy? If the history books have tought me anything its that peace usually doesn't come out randomly. These leaders had to have a reason..."

Mal's head was spinning.

A war? Really? Two? That's insane! As if the world ending wasn't bad enough, we had to go and pick a fight with the guy who ended it, but even after killing him we weren't smart enough to begin getting the human race back on track and started fighting again? Seems pretty dumb. We might actually be further behind technologically than I initially thought. I probably should avoid assumptions for the time being though... Odds are I'll be wrong due to lack of information...

[Xapham]

"Yes and no. Experimentation does give someone Qi abilities, but they aren't natural. They are more... artificial, man made abilities. So these are more limited than the abilities one could gain from natural Qi."

Xapham rubbed his chin as he thought best how to answer the next question...

"Honestly I don't know if there is some big bad evilness out there lurking in the shadows. But I doubt that is what brought peace. I think it was because with all the warring going on Bandits, Raiders, and Brutes started to build and grow daily. Made up of survivors of lands destroyed by a war they were never a part of, or soldiers that deserted no longer wanting to fight for something they didn't care about. I think peace was made simply for one reason: if there was no peace, we would fight each other to extinction. Whoever 'won' the war would no longer have anyone to rule over."

[Malcomb Warhazzard]

Hmmm we've started to dip into philosophy, I should backtrack...

Mal Nodded in agreement. "Ok That makes sense. On the note of Qi...Is there a way to see if you have it or not? Like a test?"

The experiments are interesting... It sounds to me like those who went and got experiments, got them to try and be equal to the Qi users... I think jews used to do something similar by dying their hair blonde to try and fit in with the 'master race', the main difference here is that Qi is natural evolution... Hmmm... Perhaps I have a Qi? I definitely haven't been experimented on, that much is certain, I think I would remember something like that...

"There are two way, that I know of. Aside from being put in a life threatening situation. 1. There is a clan native to 259 that have special visual Qi, meaning their Qi activates in their eyes, I've heard there are some in their clan that can see if you have a Qi just by looking at you. 2. You can go to the RnD lab, word is they have a device that can scan you and tell you if you have latent Qi."

[Malcomb Warhazzard]

"Is the RnD lab located within the academy?" Mal asked simply.

[Xapham]

"Yes."

Duh.

[Malcomb Warhazzard]

Alright then, I guess I'll have to go and get checked, I don't think I have a Qi, but maybe I could get one to help people! I don't even know if that's possible, but it sounds a hell of a lot better than being Mr. Mopey... Mal felt bad for even thinking that.

"Okay then. Now about Cabal... You said Zack Asiv was the leader, what kind of government or rule structure are we under? I'd kinda like to know what I'm dealing with here... I haven't had much experience with this territory, I'm not sure what to be weary of, let alone who to help, IF anyone is in need of help..."

[Xapham]

"It's a democracy. President Asiv was voted into office. Though we are more of militant government than that which we had before the war."

[Malcomb Warhazzard]

"I see..." Mal was trying to maintain focus. A ton of information was swirling fresh in his mind. "Professor... Is there anything I SHOULD know before moving forward?"

[Xapham]

Xapham would lean back in his chair and fold his arms.

"Like what?"

[Malcomb Warhazzard]

"I'm not sure professor. I guess at this point I should probably go to the RnD facility and get checked..." Mal was worried, this world was becoming more and more full of unknowns, and he hated unknowns. "Are there any materials I need to bring to class later today? I can pick those up while I'm out and around."

[Xapham]

Xapham would look at the boys bare wrist and sigh.

"First I recommend you go to the administration building and actually enroll into the Academy."

He would hold up a hand to stop any possible questions that might've come up.

"No, I'm not a mind reader, no that isn't one of my abilities, yes there are potentially abilities like that out there, but that is neither here nor there. I know you haven't signed up because you haven't been assigned a PT yet."

Xapham would say lifting his arm to show his Personal Tool.

"Upon enrolling you are issued one of these. It is a technological multi tool. It can be used for communication. And more importantly for you. Information gathering. Go enroll and then you will have access to more relevant history that you're wanting than what I will be teaching."

[Malcomb Warhazzard]

But I went to the building and the guy signed all those papers? Does that not count? PT? What does that mean? Professor Xapham is probably tired of answering questions... I should go.

"I must have made a mistake then, I'll go and correct my actions immediately and pick up at 'PT' then." Mal would say nodded affirmatively and standing up from the seat he had been asked to sit in. "I want to thank you immensely for taking the time to share this information with me Professor, it means more to me than I can say. I definitely owe you one. Matter-of-fact... Count on it, let me know any time you need a personal favor, and consider it done!" Mal smiled. In his mind, he just made a friend, and this guy seemed kind of sad anyway, he could probably use someone upbeat in his life.

Then Xapham went back to his paperwork!
