I Can Only Show You The Door

[Preston Salabim]

Taking a seat the exhausted mage would look upon his sprite with weary eyes. "Any luck with your research?" He'd ask, glancing down at the notes and fomula's on Barker's sheets of paper.

[Zack Asiv]

"Not really. Though I would be remiss in forsaking this Sprite body, a human body always seemed more... Compelling, more open to change or evolution. The genetics and chemical make up of this body can be manipulated, but once I'm obliterated and re-summoned it resets. Rather perturbing actually."

He would place down his quill and look to Preston.

"How about you? Any luck on the reason for the chains?"

[Preston Salabim]

A small movement of his shoulders was his initial response.

"Yes and no. I feel like I am going in circles. The chains seem to be connected to the Dark World. And in both cases fasten the world to the Moon. Though our situation for the time being seems less dire than the Dark World's state. The paradox is centered around the ability to make chains able to do this, and drain the energy from this star would require containment of an equal or greater power. And to do so for multiple stars would multiply that. But how to achieve that without already having achieved it I can't say. And to what purpose this energy is being used I can not say either. My guess is some type of creation or time magic.

Both theories could be supported by the aging of trees near the chain sites, or the twisted creations that become of creatures near those chains for prolonged periods."

He'd say putting his head down in his arms. He was so tired....

[Zack Asiv]

Sean listened and pondered himself.

"So you want me to dig up information on the purpose of the chains, it's origins, the container, or the reason for so much energy?"

[Preston Salabim]

"We need to know all of it. In the immediate though we need to figure out a way to either destroy the chains, or reverse it's effects. The why of it doesn't matter if we are all dead. I am almost wondering if I could somehow reverse the pull of the chain and redirect it's energy flow back into the planet..."

[Zack Asiv]

Sean would stretch and stand up.

"Let me see what I can dig up."

His form would fade into pure aether, a mist that vanished into seemingly nothing ness. After a few moments, he would reform near by with a research paper, complete with a diagram of one of the chains.

"So, there is a position where the chains come into being within our realm of existence. This point is vulnerable to assault, but can be possibly underground. Destabilizing the portal is the easiest way for the chain to be destroyed, but it can also be destroyed physically using weapons made of Qi Crystals. Specifically empty Qi crystals."

[Preston Salabim]

"Do we know where the weak point for the chain nearest to us is by chance?"

Above ground or below...

[Zack Asiv]

Sean would nod.

"It appears about half a meter under ground."

[Preston Salabim]

"Maybe we can try that after I get some sleep. In my current state I am sure that will lead to death. But we can try to excavate the area and research the portal and chain at it's source. Perhaps that will allow us to gain some insight into it's purpose if we can read the mana where it's source is."

[Zack Asiv]

"Very well, do you need help getting to your bed?"

Sean would ask, waiting to see how Preston intended to go to sleep.

[Preston Salabim]

"I can still make it I think. Did you need me to send assistance for your own projects?"

[Zack Asiv]

Sean would shake his head.

"It's more or less just theory and think tank at this point. Maybe when it's time for testing cells and reactions I'd use some help."

[Preston Salabim]

He nodded as he picked him self up, leaning heavily on the staff. "Well, thank you for your partnership Sean, with some luck we might be able to find a way to save this star." He'd say before slowly limping his way to bed.

[Zack Asiv]

Sean would incline his head at the thanks and go back to his formula's. Preston would find sleep difficult to come by, or restful sleep. Seemed the chains had other unforeseen effects, especially for how close there were.

Was it fitful sleep or was there something more?
