Emily was, once upon a time, a school captain. As for the reason how - let's say no one else wanted the job, and she was forced to take a job a bit more cumbersome than the last.
Some reminiscing last night and a peek on her old address book reminded her that she had the number of a certain, important female she had promised herself to talk to.
Mitsuki.
It late in the afternoon, with barely anyone within school grounds - maybe save for people who had been spending their time in the library to cool down considering how hot it was. Hopefully, it would rain later on. The city could use a bit cooling.
Emily leaned against the school wall next to the gate, staring at her phone; deciding if she should do it or otherwise. It wasn't long before she made up her mind and pressed "call".
"Hey, Mitsuki?" She said, "It's been a while."

Her phone had been ringing, and Mitsuki - naturally - answered the phone without much hesitation. The number was unfamiliar, simply because Mitsuki had acquired multiple new phones during her disappearance. She had managed to retrieve the same phone number when she returned to California, but if she hadn't, then Emily would have been left with something like, "The number you have dialed no longer exists. Please check the blah blah blah.." Though Mitsuki had managed to get the same phone number, she was unable to retrieve the information since Mitsuki didn't use phones with sim-cards. Well, she does now, but back then...
"Hey, Mitsuki? It's been a while."
The voice was very familiar, to the point where - if Mitsuki wasn't so anti-social - would have smiled.
"...Emily."
The two were never really friends to begin with... Mitsuki wasn't much of a person to make friends. Actually, Olesya and Saint were probably the only two people that ever got close. Olesya, because of her spunky attitude and the fact that the two kept running into each other... And Saint, because he simply had an aura about him that made her want to befriend him, unlike anyone else. Emily had been one of her pillars, and Mitsuki felt a sudden pang of something like guilt for simply abandoning them - her. It wasn't in her intention to do so, but.
She waited. Surely, Emily did not call simply to ask how she was doing.

"...Emily."
Ah, finally. An answer. Emily smiled inwardly. At least someone remembered her, right?
"How are you?" She said, hopefully initiating more interaction with the School Captain. Lots of things had happened since Mitsuki disappeared, and Emily wanted to know how Mitsuki was after seeing her in Art class a few day ago.
... besides that, Emily's got a few other intentions, but that has to come a bit later. "Mind if you and I hang out a bit?" She offered, "I guess we have a bit of catching up to do... and I have something to ask you personally. That is, if it's alright with you."

"How are you?"
"Better," she replied, about to reciprocate the question back onto Emily, but she had continued talking and Mitsuki did not want to interrupt. Conversation, Mitsuki thought, was awkward over the phone if the person you were talking with was someone you haven't talked with in a while. Or perhaps Mitsuki was the only one who felt a little odd? Maybe not awkward; more curious as to why Emily was calling all of a sudden. Mitsuki tried to think back if she had ever come across Emily in the school, but her mind was currently drawing a blank - until the Art Class came into mind. She was only there for a day because she soon switched out to take a more productive class that would be beneficial for her in college.
"Mind if you and I hang out a bit? I guess we have a bit of catching up to do... and I have something to ask you personally. That is, if it's alright with you."
"Of course," she replied, surprised at how easy it was to talk to Emily. Often times, Mitsuki found herself saying as little as possible, which was still the case here. But it was more fluid? Hard to explain.
"Where?"

On the contrary, Emily was making a very conscious effort to make herself a fluid conversationalist. It was true that Emily wasn't still used to socializing, and more or less still is just awkward. But she was happy though that Mitsuki responded positively.
And it showed in Emily's excited tone. It was like a younger sister finally getting some play time with an older sister, or something of that sort. "Oh, we can meet by Starbucks. You know, that one that's... um... around a block away from school?" She was quite unsure actually of where they could meet, and that was a problem.
"Is it okay with you?"
...
"Gah, sorry if I'm sounding weird or anything!"

"Oh, we can meet by Starbucks. You know, that one that's... um... around a block away from school? Is it okay with you?"
"..." Mitsuki wasn't sure how to reply. Did she mean now? Because Mitsuki could--
"Gah, sorry if I'm sounding weird or anything!"
Mitsuki's face softened up and nodded over the phone (pft, as if Emily could see) and replied so there wouldn't be any misunderstandings, "No, it's fine. I'm guessing you want to meet now? I can get there in about ten minutes."
Ten minutes only because she had to stop by her locker and some classes concerning upcoming test dates and such, just to make sure that Mitsuki wouldn't accidentally skip class making her rounds on an important day. She simply turned her homework in and left, and most of her teachers seemed to have no qualms. She waited for Emily's reply. Today would most certainly be an interesting one, considering it's been so long since Mitsuki's actually had some down time with another human. Family does not count.

"No, it's fine. I'm guessing you want to meet now? I can get there in about ten minutes."
Emily was elated. At least, Mitsuki seemed okay with everything. The black-haired girl didn't really think of going right now, but rather was hoping she had time to go maybe later tonight.
"No, no." She said, shaking her head even if Mitsuki couldn't even see. let's say it's just one of those things you couldn't get out of a girl who was used to being slightly animated when expressing her emotions. "Um, we could meet at 6 later." she laughed, "We could meet at a more convenient time if you had something planned tonight...?"
Sorry, Tsuki; but Emily was more or less like that. A lack of self-worth and some insecurities had made her like this, even with the fact that she had more or less changed. No more was that girl with wavering morals and beliefs; now just a girl who knew what she wanted and believed in.
But right now, Emily was smiling.
Today wasn't really going to be much about things that had stressed her the past few months; just some R and R time with a person Emily looked up to.

"No, no. Um, we could meet at 6 later. We could meet at a more convenient time if you had something planned tonight...?"
"Six is fine," she replied. Fortunately for herself, six was a much better time to meet up with Emily. It gave Mitsuki some down time to finish her homework, get some training in with her brother, and just hang out with her dog. Skye had returned from Japan all by himself, and seemed a little stressed out from the long flight - the least Mitsuki could do is be a good friend. Did Mitsuki find it sad that her only friend - except maybe short of David - was a dog? No, she actually found it soothing. You see, dogs don't talk - they only listen. They don't have problems like humans do, don't worry about things that the media puts up. A dog. Trustworthy companion.
"I'll see you then," she said. And she would hang up, unless Emily continued talking.
And, hours later, Mitsuki would walk into the Starbucks on time. If she didn't see Emily in the room, she would walk to an empty table. If she did, then she would approach her. Simple.

Just a note though, Emily is deathly afraid of dogs.
Though she could be easily compared to one - except, she barks.
But enough of that lame humour;
"I'll see you then," Mitsuki said, before hanging up. Emily clicked the button on her phone and heaved a sigh.
Well, it was time to get herself dressed. A simple White blouse with a green scarf tied by the neck, a black pleated skirt, black leggings and black shoes.
Though unfortunately, despite having been the one to offer this meeting, Emily would be around 3-6 minutes late. Darned Filipino time running after her despite her best efforts! More or less, the girl was definitely still having troubles in finding places, having moved back only a few days ago.
The girl would frantically search for her companion with her eyes, looking around the otherwise busy coffeeshop until she saw Mitsuki sitting down on a table. Well, obviously, Emily talked up to her and laughed nervously. "Hey, Tsuki." She said, "Sorry, I got lost... er... yeah."
The girl sat down on the table's unoccupied chair and smiled, "Do you want something to drink? I'll treat you to something."

"Hey, Tsuki. Sorry, I got lost... er... yeah."
Mitsuki would only nod and gesture to the chair across from her. Mitsuki did not wait very long; 3-6 minutes is hardly considered to be waiting at all, or so Mitsuki thought, but Emily seemed the type of girl who would profusely apologize if she even thought that she may have accidentally offended someone in the slightest of ways, or did something distasteful to another person. Emily sat and offered Mitsuki something to drink, but instead she shook her head. Don't get me wrong, Mitsuki absolutely adores coffee; taste, smell, sight... And she had nothing against Starbucks either. Great place for coffee, even if it was a little overpriced.
"No, I'm fine," Mitsuki replied. There was a small pause, and Mitsuki popped a question.
"What's up?"
Leave it to Mitsuki to be blunt and concise when it comes to such discussions. She wasn't much of a person for small talk, always speaking the bare minimum.

Minutes late. Seriously, Emily was a little nervous right now. But she felt slightly relieved when Mitsuki nodded in acknowledgment. Phew, Emily thought Mitsuki would ditch her, but then again, Emily didn't know Mitsuki very well. Hopefully, that would change.
"No, I'm fine, What's up?" Mitsuki said asked, finally breaking the awkward silence. Interestingly, Emily flushed a bit red and stammered a bit.
"Anou," She started, "I'm quite fine. I just got back from San Francisco and now I'm back at 259, again." Emily would chuckle lightly. Well, she did leave right before the school went ala humpty dumpty, but then again...
"How about you?" She started, "You suddenly disappeared soon after I became the Head of the School Newsletter. Mind sharing? Not that I'm requiring you to, but... um... if it's okay to let me know, at least."

"San Fran?" Mitsuki questioned, but would not push further for an explanation.
"My disappearance, I'm afraid, is a personal issue...so details I will not be able to share," she replied to Em, offering her best apologetic smile she could muster. It would slowly drop as Mitsuki tried her best to explain in a concise manner of why Mitsuki had to leave.
"I was required to leave the state for the survival of loved ones and for myself," she said, and she would leave it at that.

Emily just nodded. Yeah, Emily went to San Francisco.
"My disappearance, I'm afraid, is a personal issue...so details I will not be able to share,"
"Oh." Emily said, nodding. She didn't really mean to intrude, but was really rather curious. There was much mystery surrounding Mitsuki for the Filipina despite the fact that the two did work together as pillars once upon a time.
"I was required to leave the state for the survival of loved ones and for myself,"
"I see." She said, giving off a smile towards Mitsuki. Whatever Mitsuki went through must have been something important. Emily would leave it at that. Emily usually was as open as a book, but there are things about herself that she hid from most people. Oh well, at least Mitsuki is back and she's safe.
"But, yeah." She said, hoping to pull back the question to herself to spare Mitsuki from the topic of where she went. "After losing the S-C title to the Dragons, I had to transfer for a few months to San Francisco to stay with a few relatives of mine. Then I heard that 259 got hit by an earthquake..." Emily's face looked slightly pained as she trailed off, but she shook it off almost immediately. Hopefully, Mitsuki wouldn't notice. Emily just stood up, trying to compose herself and look as cheerful as she could. "Anyways, mind accompanying me to the mall? I needa buy something for Yami-chan."
Who the heck is Yami-chan?"

Mitsuki hadn't been aware that Emily had been school captain, but she wouldn't let Em know that. Actually, to be honest, Mitsuki had no idea what went on with the school while she was gone. She managed to retrieve snippets of information from the students she was acquainted with -- or at least, the ones remaining. These dragons, Mitsuki thought, seemed kind of childish. Almost as childish as the title of 'Pillars' are to the school; what kind of game were the students playing? Why was there a need for official titles for only four students in the school? Mitsuki knew the answers, but in her current mind-set, they were not good enough. Hierarchy. Is it really necessary?
She slowly looked away when she mentioned the earth quake. She thought of Kaufman, and the fact that he was dead was not a pleasant thought to the young Asian.
But, continuing on with the conversation.
"Hm? Sure," she replied. She didn't know who this Yami-chan was, but Mitsuki wouldn't ask. She figured Emily would let her know eventually, and if not, then... Oh well.
She wasn't sure if Emily drove, but Mitsuki had her car in the parking lot. Unless she preferred taking the bus or walking, then Mitsuki would comply.
"I could drive, unless you have some other means of transportation?"

"Hm? Sure, I could drive, unless you have some other means of transportation?"
Emily laughed nervously. Well, she was thinking of walking there - but driving wasn't such a bad idea. She was just a little feeling a bit apologetic for not being able to drive. Probably an asian thing.
"No need." She said, "... It's just a 15-minute walk from here; I forgot what the name of that store is... Uh..."
She paused a bit.
Pets.. uh...
"... Petsmart...?" She said, "Dunno if you're familiar with that place."
Emily shrugged and stood up, giving Mitsuki a warm smile as she began the walk towards their destination. She would open the door for Mitsuki and it was quite obvious that she was honestly a bit nervous.
No, this wasn't the nervous that was all "OMGILIEKHER" kind, but rather "UMHOWDOIDOTHIS?" kind.
Oh boy. First time for everything right?
And to think she was the one who thought of this get-together thing.
Okay, what to say...?
"Do you have any pets, Mitsuki?" She said, hoping to learn a bit more about her. Things she liked, things she believed in - that sorta thing.
