The school was the same as ever, wide, spacious and bustling with noise. Dismissal was always the sign of freedom for these individuals, trapped within the confines of the country's educational system...waiting...wanting. Every day the same routine, and everyday the same expectations seemed to appear. Lounging lazily whilst listening to Daft Punk on his iPod nano, Zan gazed around at the passing students as he mused about his current situation. Low grades, low expectations, and the teacher's certainly disliked his attitude. Likewise, he didn't like the school's staff much either.
He yawned and rubbed his eyes a little before turning away from the passing crowd and staring up at the sky. Nice...the same old sky. Everything felt the same...as if nothing changed. Talk about monotonous.
Shifting his weight from side to side, he bobbed his head and continued to listen to his techno. He had hoped to see some familiar faces; however he didn't know too many people, so his chances were quite slim.

Mitsuki was never really a well-known Captain to begin with. Sure, people knew her name, but her face was something unknown to much of the student body. So when word went around that Captainship was floating from one person to another, Mitsuki worked herself down the ladder. She was now, almost literally, invisible to the student body. She kept herself well blended with the others, doing nothing to really make herself stand out - yet at the same time, had to do something or else she would look as if she were trying too hard to blend in. She dressed appropriately for the Californian weather - sort of. She wore black shorts but had on a maroon off-the-shoulder hoodless sweater. Odd combination, but eh...
She walked down the halls, backpack slung over both her shoulders, headphones plugged into her ears. She was listening to music through her phone; waste of battery, but she was never one to use her phone much anyway.
She passed by a familiar looking boy; could have possibly made eye contact, but she continued on. She just wanted to get out of this building.

In an almost dreamlike sequence, Zan watched as most of the people began to disappear, slowly...and gradually. Personally, he didn't stand out much; however, there were a few individuals who seemed to glance at him occasionally. It had been a while...and he had once been a de facto Militia member, so there was that...and a few teachers knew him quite well- his poor attendance, and his tendency to frustrate the staff.
But maybe it was because he had been kicked out of class so often.
Well it's not like I meant to do it. Just happens, really.. he thought to himself, as he averted his gaze from the remaining few students and focused his attention on the doorway of the school.
His eyes scanned the passing crowd, and continually traced a line back to the entrance. The boy brushed some hair out of his face and turned away. Waiting here would probably not help him out much...
He caught the gaze of a young asian student as she passed him...but only for a moment. Well, it beats having to walk home alone, he thought to himself as he jogged to catch up with the girl as she exited the building. Reaching out his left arm, he started to grab her left shoulder...and stopped. There was a moment of revelation as he thought back- to a time far, far away. She looked familiar as well...
Shrugging, he reached out and grabbed her shoulder anyway, declaring "Et tu Brutus?"

When she felt something brush against her shoulder, she reacted immediately. She pivoted, her own hand latching onto the hand that belonged to the boy, and she would step toward him in an attempt to push him back. If he didn't move, and perhaps only stumbled, then it would put them in an awkward position that would only last perhaps a split second, for then Mitsuki would know that the boy was the one she had made eye contact with, and would back off accordingly. She wouldn't apologize for her actions - if it actually pulled through - but instead, would sigh and turn back around and continue walking, his words somehow still audible despite the music playing in her ears.
"Julius Caesar," she spoke, her voice somewhat void of all emotion, except perhaps a hint of exhaustion.
"Didn't think I'd ever see you again, kid," she continued before whistling low.
Skye would come trotting over. Her little (okay, not so little) dog. <3

Performing a rather half-hearted double take when she began to turn, Zan thought that maybe...he had the wrong person. The boy was pulling away as she latched onto him. And when she stepped forward, he felt his left foot trip over his right as he stumbled backward.
"D-Don't worry- I got this-," he stated in a falsely confident tone as they both fell over. The moment...was brief, as he turned into more of a mess than she did, due to her being on top. And fast as lightning, she was back up and walking away, as he was beginning to get up.
Gritting his teeth, a little annoyed, and a little bit shaken, Zan chased after her again- until he saw her canine companion. Crap...well that thing looked pretty big. So...slowly, but coolly...he pulled out....a rather sizable textbook and brandished it as he continued forward.
"Didn't think I'd ever see you again, kid."
Ha! So she was the right person. He knew it! But she spoke like...an elder.
"Tch! You speak like an old woman. I highly doubt you're that much older than I am- former Captain. I still remember seeing you beat down that one kid who stood up to you."

She crouched down next to Skye and began scratching him under the ears, not exactly listening to the boy as he spoke. Yet, somehow, some of the detail managed to register in her brain (known as the cocktail party phenomenon). Being called 'former captain' didn't really have any effect on her - it was just a part of her past, something she accepted. She willingly gave it up, and now she wasn't even going to bother to try and get it back. She's heard about Matrim from wandering voices and knew that he'd do a better job than she (since she has tendencies to disappear off the radar for long periods of time, ehh?). But that was not what registered in her brain.
"He challenged me. And I wouldn't call that a beatdown," she retorted, standing up as she turned to face Zana.
"And you're right. I'm Mitsuki. So what do I call you?"

She was an aloof one, aye. Raising an eyebrow, he merely nodded as she recalled her fight with the slightest hint of recollection. Most of the time she remained with her dog, as if she weren’t even interested with what he had to say. Just goes to show you how much the higher ups consider the words of their subordinates… he thought to himself. Would a little consideration hurt? Eh…it didn’t matter. The caste was all broken up, there would be new leaders, old ones, vengeful ones, and possibly even the rebellious leaders. Nothing would change. The caste would be there, regardless. "And you're right. I'm Mitsuki. So what do I call you?" What he was called. Hmm….what did he go by? Usually he was accustomed to the simple “you” or “him” or “that kid”. None of this appropriate labeling, since he was not that well known and relatively low in standing. Striking up a valiant pose, he pointed at her like Uncle Sam and announced “YOU! Can call me Zan.” He added ,"It's a pleasure to meet'cha! And ....that's a pretty big....dog."
