~"Ryu Hayabusa."~
For a moment, Dan simply stared at the man in the chair, his expression indiscernible. After about two whole seconds, though, he suddenly burst out into laughter, surprising even Devon. She looked right over towards him, wondering what the hell he was on. After a bit, though, the laughter died out, and he realized he was the only one laughing.
"He he... No really, who are you?"
Noticing Devon's unwavering stare once more, the smile on his face slowly began to fade as a rather disturbing realization settled into his mind.
"...Wait. Wait a second... You mean... That's... really your real name...?"
His eyes were wide now, looking at Ryu up and down.
"...Come to think of it... other than the eyes, you're a dead ringer for Jin Kazama... Oh my god...! This... It's like one of my middle-school fanfictions come to li--ACK!"
The pen flew right into his face and almost hit him in the eye, interrupting his little fanboy spasm. Devon slowly put her arm back down, her gaze still looking right at him.
"S...Sorry... Sorry about that... You probably get that all the time... *Ahem.* Anyways, what... happened to her? I mean, she's gotten in some scrapes before, but usually not ones this bad... Not in a while. anyways..."
Devon simply watched her "Father", tempted to throw the notepad next. Gamer geek first, parental guardian second... He really was a hopeless case.

Ryu's brow twitched as this Dan guy busted out laughing at his name. What the hell was funny about that? It was a Japanese name. Ryu (particularly Ryuu) was a pretty common fuckin' name. It wasn't stupidly common, like 'John' or some such is over here, but it was relatively ordinary. The only other reason Ryu could come up with was that the man knew who the Hayabusa were, and he didn't believe either that one was still alive, or that one was in America. Yeah, that made sense.
Waiting for the fit to subside, arms still crossed over his bulky chest, Ryu's brow continued to periodically twitch. He hadn't looked at Devon, but money said that she was giving him the same look. If with a bit more tolerance, what with her being used to his stupidity. She had put him in his stuporing place a second ago, more sense was made in Ryu's mind. He gave a slight nod at the question, "What, you know the Hayabusa?" then raised an eyebrow as the man looked him up and down.
"Who the fuck is Jin Kazama?" This time, Ryu looked back to the girl on the bed, he likely wouldn't find any answers there but she could decipher the mans stupid. Turning back to him when the final statement-- and question-- was made, he blinked a couple of times. The laugh? No, decidedly not. Most people with brains cowered in fear of his surname, not laughed at it. Shifting in the chair slightly with a small shrug, "She got into a fight with someone she couldn't handle. Someone few people at that school could handle. I managed to get his attention away from her before it got too bad." That was all there was to tell, really.

Throughout the whole little scene that Dan put on, Devon had no vocal response for her undoubtedly confused sensei. As for physical responses, she merely lifted up the pad again and pointed to what she had written before, implying and further reminding him that the two were not, in any way, related by blood. Well... that is, unless it turned out that young Dan was into banging hookers at age ten or eleven, a possibility which Devon both highly doubted and highly prayed was false.
In any case, after Ryu explained what happened, Dan couldn't help but let a tired smile slip past.
"...Yep, that sounds like Devon alright. I kept telling her before that things would be different here, that she couldn't go around picking fights anymore, but she can be pretty stubborn about things... Thank you for looking after her."
Devon kept on looking at him, her expression unchanging despite the fact that he was talking about her as if she wasn't there. She didn't care about that. She was thinking a bit... What was so odd about the name Ryu Hayabusa? And who was Jin Kazama again? The names sounded familiar, but...
........
.....Oh.
...OH.
...Well... that was an... interesting coincidence. She guessed. Ah, well. Not like she particularly cared. Now, Dan on the other hand...
"...........So...
...Does this mean that there's an actual Hayabusa clan? Are you really all ninjas? And what about the Dragon Sword, and the Eye of the Dragon, do either of them actually exist?!"
Devon's hand twitched and prepared to chuck the notepad right at him, but after a moment, she decided to let this little bit of stupidity play out for now. Not that she was particularly interested in the answers, but it was more the fact that it was amusing. I mean, hey, the only times one would usually see Dan spaz out quite like this was at anime conventions, and after the first one Devon was dragged to, she (and Dan) figured out that one would be enough.
Oh lord, the whores... and the smells... oh god, the smells only got worse...

Ryu's brow twitched further, but it was the only thing on him that moved. Eyes staying steady, his torso seemed not to even heave with breath. Legs stayed planted, arms stayed crossed. Ryu had no idea what this idiot was talking about, but questions needed to be answered. In the past, he wouldn't have cared, but he was already talking to this guy, sooo... "Again, in that order:" He said a second or two after the guy shut up, jaw being the only thing moving now. "Used to. Sort of. And I have no clue what the fuck you're talking about."
He let that sit for a second, then continued. "I have several dragon themed weapons, and the only Dragon's Eye I know of are fighting techniques. Something about knowing everything in a situation. It's more advanced than where I am or probably ever will be." His massively deep voice sounded in a normal tone, not especially even or otherwise. If anything, a very slight hint of irritation carried over, but that was only at the seeming randomness of this all. I mean who the fuck would know who the Hayabusa were in America? The only person who'd ever known about them had been Tiel, and that decidedly hadn't been inherent knowledge. He dug for the information that he found.
Turning his head back to Devon, he raised an eyebrow to say, 'the fuck is with him?'.

Huh... even Devon had to admit, those were some very interesting answers... even more interesting than she had anticipated. There... used to be a Hayabusa clan? But since he was a Hayabusa... that would mean that he was probably the last of his clan. There had to be an interesting story behind that. Not that she was going to go out and ask him about it. She had a "you don't ask, I don't ask" sort of mentality when it came to talking about the past. Dan learned about that one the hard way.
As for "sort of"... well, that could be up for interpretation. Did it mean that only some of them were ninjas? Or did it mean that all of them studied a bit of ninjitsu? Or did it mean that some or all of them didn't study ninjitsu, but something close to it? Either way, it didn't exactly answer the question, but piqued her interest.
As for the last answer... well... screw that. It was just coincidence, probably. That Dragon's Eye technique sounded useful, though. Very useful. She found it a bit sad that Sensei didn't think that he would ever reach that point, however. Why the hell not? He was still young, still getting stronger, so as long as he kept trying, he might have reached it. If he really determined that he couldn't, however, then perhaps it was really not meant to be. Ah, well.
As for Dan... Lord knows what he was thinking then.
"Hm... that's interesting. Maybe it's possible they partially based it off of your clan... Maybe a bit off of you, if possible. Then again, Ryu isn't that uncommon a name, so perhaps it's partially coincidence..."
...And of course, Devon knew that her poor Sensei was just getting more and more confused over this. At least he was thinking about this logically, and wasn't THAT messed up in the head. She had been partially expecting for him to tell Sensei that they must all be in a videogame, and that none of this, not even Sensei, was real... or some Hollywood bullshit like that. Dan may be obsessed, but at least he wasn't delusional.
When Sensei looked her way for an answer, Devon simply shook her head and waved her hand, as if to say, "It's too stupid to explain, but it's not a big deal. Don't worry about it." Dan would be better at explaining this, anyways.
...Eeeeeexcept for the fact that being shut in the apartment for so long made him forget that not everyone had heard of Ninja Gaiden or Tekken.
Such a loving, average family, eh?

His brow only raised further before a barely noticeable shrug twitched his shoulders and he looked back to the dumb ass spewing the randomness. Aaanndd there it goes. His brow went up higher and he wondered just what crack this guy was on. What the fuck was he talking about? What was based off of what about him? Had someone made a story of his life and he hadn't even known about it? Where the fuck were his royalties, damnit!?
...Yeah, that's enough of that...And...This whole fuckin' situation, really. "Know what? I'm not even gonna ask." He said in a relatively low voice before standing up. It looked like the doctors and nurses and what not were going to come in and check on her and he didn't entirely need to be there for that, so, "I'll be in touch, don't get into any more shit." He said to Devon and started for the door, sidestepping a nurse who had walked in wondering who Dan was.
He now had a number-- Albeit, he wasn't about to call her for anything-- and she was going to be in here for a few days, so he knew where she'd be for some time. Enough to come back at some point and post some questions about her living status and such. And beyond that... Well, who the hell knows? If he had a student, it would be prudent that said student live with him. Right? Right.
