Reg Park dude. Was lifting before steroids even Arnie was steroid free for a long time. That was when bodybuilding was an art form not some fucking abnormal shit fest.
Don't get me wrong, Bulgarians are amazing athletes they work so hard but when you're at that level a professional weightlifter. Steroids just makes it so unfair. You have to understand that any tom dick and harry can use some steroids and train hard and they'll be big but they'll never be the best. The Bulgarians are notorious for training twice a day maxing every day. These guys are taking it old school Russian style and if you've read the book power to the people my god you come to understand the benefits of weightlifting.
Pavel Tsatsouline is who the Soviets went to when they wanted their Spetsnaz soldiers to get big.
Now lets rip Patrick a new asshole.
Competitive swimming:
All competitive swimmers lift, they need very strong shoulders and lats to power them through the water. If you think you can get physiques like this without lifting.
Body weight exercises:
Nothing wrong with it really, weighting dips and chin ups are the key to big shoulders and biceps/triceps. However for strength they don't add much (there's always the exception). Body weight exercises should not be the only thing you do. You want a strong body that'll take you through life. That means putting preasure on your joint and making sure you're building strong dense muscle.
Boxing/Muay Thai:
Years of boxing and Muay Thai are detrimental as it's collision orientated. You actually won't get much stronger rather weaker. Muay Thai fighters have the shortest careers in the world and some of the highest mortality rates. It is very good for fitness because it is cardiovascular but the most of boxing fitness comes from well skipping which is the best exercises minute for minute for burning and getting fit. So instead of boxing or doing Muay Thai I would opt for fitness boxing or body pump classes. Not to mention years of pad work with patterns screw up your shoulder joints.
Grappling:
The best thing I think you could possibly do next to weightlifting. But to be good at it you need to overload and sadly you can't get your training partner to just gain 10 pounds so you can get better and your throws.
Medicine balls:
Love it it's great for just all round work but you know what so are kettle balls.
The point i'm trying to make is really if you did body weight exercise there is just so much you can do. The good thing that all these exercises have in common is it's all plyometric training which is using more than one muscle group such like when you squat throw a ball, run, skip jump and basically do anything that you do in your day to day life but like don't knock the benefits of weightlifting xD
