As soon as he saw David the smile on his face vanished and his face hardened. An almost glare was shot at David, almost daring him to comment before he turned back to Maddie.
"Alright Maddie. Looks like play time is over for now. We gotta figure out where you are staying kiddo."
He removed his hand and the ride stopped before he picked her up off the unicorn. Once she was removed he pushed down on it to send it back to the stone from whence it came.

Olesya frowned at the doctor's words, it was the second or third time someone had mentioned David caring about Olesya. Of course he did, they were friends right? There was definitely a moment when they could have crossed the line to become more than that...but neither of them had the guts to cross that line. And now he was angry with her. She knew that he wouldn't just up and leave her without good reason, but his and Mathew's anger made her panic a bit. What if they took Maddie and kicked her out? What if they let her stay but never talked to her again? Irrational thoughts swam around in her head as the doctor bandaged her up.
She sighed deeply at the thought of proving him wrong. Showing him that she was responsible, and could care for Maddie. Didn't he realize how hard it was rebuilding who she used to be? Maddie was good for Olesya, she gave her something to look forward to, someone to care for, someone to look out for. When she was on her own she was careless, taking too many risks...
...the boys' words sunk in and a wrenching feeling tore at her gut. She understood what it was they were trying to say.
Once she was bandaged and laying back on the table, Olesya succumbed to unconsciousness, sleeping off the beatings she just took. The doctor took one look at her, shook his head sadly and retreived a blanket and pillow so she could rest.

"Awwww really!?"
Maddie whined, not having seen the exchange between the boys. She let Mathew help her down, watching as the unicorn disappeared into the ground.
"What about 'Lesya? Is she coming too?"

David smiled warmly, crouching down to her level.
"Leesa has to sleep- she got real tired on the trip, but she said she's proud of you for listening to her like you did."
He would hold out his hand.
"I'm David."
Another smile.
"You know, I think youichi left some play things at my house, if you want to come play and wait for leesa. How does that sound? I'm sure Matt would even play barbies with you."
A wide grin up at Matt.
He would pay for that later, he was sure.
"We also have some puppies in the barn over there that could use some love. He might be willing to take you over there, huh Matt?"

"Up to you kiddo. You can go with David, or stick around with me. We can do what you want tonight while she rests up."
He ruffled her hair playfully while he looked up at David with a smile that didn't touch his eyes.

He would stand, staring Over at mathew with a smile that DID reach his eyes.
"Oui fuimt dno. Pid tuh'd funno, e mega dryd oui lyh bmyo fedr getc, yht E fuh'd damm dra funmt Sydraf ryc y raynd. Oui ryja y nabidydeuh du syehdyeh, ar?"
He'd look back down at Maddie.
"If you want, be can go sit by Olesya, and maybe talk to her in a bit. Whatcha say?"

Maddie looked from one boy to another, confused with so many choices of things to do! This place was already looking to be pretty great.
"Umm...can we go see 'Lesya then look at the puppies?"
I mean, really, who can resist puppies! But Maddie really wanted to see Olesya and make sure her guardian was alright.

"That sounds like a great choice. I'm sure David here would love to take you to do all those things to. But before I go I have a surprise for you."
He said as he reached forward behind her ear, the stone in his sleeve morphing out of her view and sliding out as he retracted his hand. Showing her a small unicorn figurine.
"He wanted me to give him to you so he could watch over you. You will give him a good home right?"

David grinned behind Matts back.
Damn. Either Matt liked kids or, secretly, he was a decent human being. Of course, he had always suspected the latter, but thought it was funny how Mathew hid it. Like it was a weakness. He would say nothing, more than willing to have some time with the child.
Once she took it, he would crouch down and hold out his hand, bringing her in closer before speaking softly.
"So, Maddie. Did you know I'm called the Storm Dragon? And one of my gifts.." his eyes lit up.
"....is flight! Have you ever wanted to fly?"

Maddie squealed when he pulled out a mini figurine of the unicorn she just rode. She wrapped her hands around it, bringing it to her chest, beaming.
"Oh thank you thank you!"
She turned her attention to David, a look of confusion crossing her young features.
"You can fly? Do you have wings?"
All this Dragon talk was confusing. But it was like she was in a magical world here! Like Disney Land!

He smiled at the kid and ruffled her hair again glad that she liked the toy. First time he used the earth wrapped around his body for something other than hurting someone. It was kind of weird. In a good way though!
"Well you two have fun. I need to go and handle a few things."
Like shitting on David's bed for his barbie comment.
"I will check up on you later Maddie."
And kick Olesya's ass for endangering you like that.
And with that Mathew would start to walk off, hands shoved in his pockets.

David half waved to Matt, unaware of the terror that would await him when he got home. He looked back at Maddie.
"Nope. See, you can fly too, as long as I'm around! Just close your eyes really tight, and picture yourself in the air..."
If she did, he would gently lift her with air pressure, so she hovered 6 inches off the ground. He would look at her eyelids, waiting
"Open them."
When she did, he would lift his eyebrows, poIntimg at her feet.
