Talon, Birch and Cain watched as Fox gave her instructions to the others, grimacing to each other as they realized where that left them. To look for Oliver. That was likely a tougher job than what any of the others had been assigned.
Except maybe for keeping an eye on Delilah and Marcus...er, Fenris, apparently. If they were caught spying on them, Delilah was bound to get suspicious.
"Better them than us," Cain whispered quietly. Talon nodded vigorously in agreement while Birch watched the red haired woman turn back to them.
"And that leaves us doesn't it? With the others covering the bases there's no way for the little one to leave the compound. That free's us up to search the grounds. I hope there's no objections?"
Talon and Cain shook their heads while Birch grinned broadly. "I do so love women in charge..."
His two companions looked over at him incredulously for a moment. Talon cuffed him upside the head. "NOW IS REALLY NOT THE TIME, MAN."
"There is always a time," Birch corrected, but he dropped the subject, still smiling contentedly.
"Perfect! Let's begin operations and a hearty good luck to you all!"
Filing out of the room behind the others, the three would walk around the building to look at the broken window, trying to get a grasp on what happened.
"Do you think he was snatched?" Talon grumbled.
"Nah. Look at the way the glass is smashed outwards."
"Also note the lack of adult footprints in the vicinity."
They pondered for a few minutes more, looking over the area and back at the window. Worry gnawed at each of them..well, not Birch, not really anyway. He was quite sure they would find the child. They just had to be as creative as he was.
"...It looks like he escaped on his own.." Cain murmured, pointing to the chunk of cement lying on the ground not too far from where they stood.
"Then he's hiding," Talon groaned. He had once been at the receiving end of a game of hide and seek with Oliver. "Good LORD, he could be anywhere."
"Calm yourselves, gentlemen~!" Birch reassured them, "We have the best chance at finding the young lad if we split up! I will take the East, Talon, you take the South, and Cain, you the West. Sound like a plan?"
Cain and Talon exchanged uncertain glances before nodding reulctanty. It was better than the non-plan they had.
"Let's go."
Deep within the shed, Oliver marveled at the wonders within. He slowly paced aisle upon aisle of projects, still and silent as cadavers that had faces that warped and changed in the light. He wasn't afraid of these things (well, maybe a little) but mostly he was curious. He had never been in a place like this before.
He moved a sheet aside and it slithered to the ground, rattling a few chains as it did so. Underneath was an old boiler, clearly in need of repair...even more so now that it had been exposed to the elements for so long. It was rusted and old, part of it blown wide open by some long ago explosion. It's edges were sharp, dangerous points that would make anyone nervous.
"Coooool"
He clamebered inside, sitting within the depths of the skeleton of this old piece of equipment. He leaned his head back, looking through the top. From a hole in the shed roof, he could see the sky, dotted with stars.
And in that rather unsafe place, the tired little boy fell asleep.
