He was surprised that Rai offered to let Kiyr go first. Normally he would have been all for showing up Kiyr and being the better apprentice. Perhaps he was learning, and by going second he would get the advantage of learning from Kiyr's mistakes. As for Kiyr, her accepting was no surprise. Ever since her run ins with David she couldn't seem to keep her head out of the clouds.
It seemed to be a bit of a weakness of hers. Lacking the focus and dedication of Rai. Rai however seemed to be less adaptable than Kiyr. But perhaps that was changing.
"Very well Kiyr, you may have first go of it. Rai, pay attention and learn while she does. If I only need to explain it once I will be impressed."

Rai would nod making sure to keep his eyes on everything watching carefully to insure he wouldn't make as many mistakes, or at least minimal mistakes.

"Sir."
Kiyr was prone to learning by watching, but that did not mean she couldn't learn to do by doing. She was confident, either way. This was just another obstacle she would pass over in stride, with no loss of momentum. Her expression matched her tone: serene.

"Very good then."
Since no one had any smart remarks to make. Once they reached the helicopter he lifted himself inside and moved to the front of the chopper. Sitting on the front seats were two boxes. Wrapped in green paper. Both of them were rather small boxes, but it had been some time since he gave them tokens to celebrate their progress.
"Because you have done well I would like for you to have these small trinkets. Both of you should be proud of the dedication to yourselves that you have shown today."
He handed them each a box!
Kiyr's Box has: Studded Gloves: +2 Str
Rai's box has: Arm Wraps: +1 Con, Leg Wraps: +1 Con

"Thank you master."

Kiyr, as well, accepted the gift, bowing her head.
"You have my gratitude, as well."

He nodded to both of his apprentices and would then hand them each a helmet that had a built in headset. This way they could talk while they fly. Because when this Dragon woke up she let out a mighty roar. He then spent the next decent hunk of time explaining the controls to both of them, showing them how everything worked. Explaining how to control altitude and how to maneuver it.
Once he was sure that they understood he moved to the co pilot's seat and motioned for Kiyr to sit in the pilot's seat. Rai would have to sit in the back for this go around.
"Alright Kiyr. Take us up."

It was exciting: Kiyr felt it rise within her as she carefully tucked the helmet onto her head and adjusted the mic. Regardless of whether it was mechanical--it was a skill she would grasp wholeheartedly; and as such, she listened intently, absorbing the information that Mathew was feeding her, touching but not activating the switches at the beginning. She wanted to make sure she had it down before she was told to fly it. A new skill was always exciting to add to her repertoire.
The fact that it was useful, and could be used in the future definitely made it worthwhile. She couldn't describe the uplifting feelings she had about this. It was both an honour and a great responsibility. Neither of which she wished to squander. Her heart thrummed pleasantly in her chest as she took her seat and slipped the belt on. For a moment, the habit surprised her, that she would still buckle up even after all these years.
But she pushed it from her mind and took a deep, cleansing breath, rolling her shoulders to relieve any lingering tension. She may have been slightly nervous - she didn't want to crash or screw up, after all! - but she didn't want to be tense when operating the machine. After a quick check, she started flipping switches and levers in the order she'd been instructed before turning the huge beast on. With a guttural, fierce roar, the gear shafts cranked and she came alive, the main rotor beginning to beat air downwards as they sliced through the air.
Her feet were placed where they were supposed to be and Kiyr tilted her head one way, then the other, loosening the muscles as she took hold of the "cyclic", her left upon the collective, and she mentally braced herself for the constant adjusting she would have to do to maintain the helicopter's "balance" in the air.
Slowly, she took them up, pulling and adjusting accordingly and, admittedly, feeling rather amazed that she could feel the entire craft shift, and have to make up for it, accordingly.

Rai put on the helmet and was crazy excited taking in every word Mathew said about how to fly soaking up like a sponge. He wanted to be sure he held everything Mathew had to teach. When Kiyr took the pilot seat Rai made sure to keep his eyes on her and watched everything she did while going over the mental checklist that Mathew had just taught them. Now time to see how this baby handles... Rai thought to himself as Kiyr took off.
