As she spoke and motioned at him, Mau just gave a long, continuous shake of his head. He sort of understood what she was getting at, when she motioned at her mouth... but the answer to that was also no. Mau lifted a hand to his own throat and clenched at a little, a sort of constricting motion. He shrugged and shook his head some more. He opened his mouth but no sound came out. No speech.
...Notably, his tail flicked a little side to side behind him, slightly agitated by the limitations on this shared curiosity they seemed to have. So far the female would have found all of her assumptions incorrect; the person in front of her, though rather large, was (at the moment) quite the opposite of vicious. As for Mau's assumptions about her... he had none. He didn't even know where to begin... but supposed he could start by seeing where she came from.
Rising to his feet calmly, Mau stood with his hands idle at his sides and peered down at the small primitive female, waiting for her to do something, or go somewhere, so that he could follow and learn more about her by observation.

The girl sighed, reading his hand motions he had no voice. This cat-man Metahuman was getting more interesting by the second, but if they had no way to speak...
She stood up with him, gazing up at him, a full head, shoulders and chest taller than her. It was so exquisite, his form was so delicate. His muscles looked strong, and yet he looked so thin, so light, as if she could pick him up with one hand.
A roar of an approaching beast signaled her time to move.
Okay, here comes the tricky part. You've gotta go home.
Frantically, she pointed to herself, then back behind her, nodding. Then she pointed her finger at Mau, then held up both her hands, palms towards him. I, Go. You, Stay. Finally, she clapped her hands together, fingers towards the sky. Please.
The roar came again. She had to go, or she was double dead.
With a long stare, she backed away slowly from him. As she did, Mau would hear a voice in his mind. A female voice. And this, he could understand.
"Please don't follow me. I'll come back here, one week from sunset."
And that was it, she was gone. Roaring came from two directions, but his escape back to the City was clear.

--!
Mau flinched at the distant roar, but his eye remained rooted to the female as she motioned with her hands, things he could not immediately understand. Until...
Okay.
Not questioning how he could suddenly understand her, Mau nodded once. When he blinked again she was gone, and a moment later his instincts dragged his feet back the way he had come; he was moving away rapidly without giving much thought to anything but the female's words.
One week from sunset.
Before long, Mau passed wide-eyed through the gate to the City, silent with his secret hidden safely away... he knew not where.
