"I'm not giving up!"
Olesya raised her voice, color rising in her cheeks.
"I told you I'm tired, not tapping out. I've made sacrifices and continued to do so, that isn't going to change. Leon can give out all the meaningless titles he wants. The people will know where the true power stands. Who it is they can rely on."
Fire burned in her speckled eyes.

Mathew clapped his hands at her outburst. Almost giggling with boyish glee. He knew she had it in her!
"Atta girl! She can be taught!"
Thought it totally did take her long enough to get in the right mindset about this whole thing.
"Fuck the title that he gave away. You don't want it right? Right, of course you don't. It's a gay title anyways."
Take that Leon.
"What you do is what matters. And that's why in my eyes you pass."

Olesya grew sheepish at this outburst, her cheeks brightening at his clapping. Of course she had the right attitude! It had just been offset by the events from today.
But now, now she was back on track.
"You're right. Shut up."
She held her hand up, deflecting any comment from the peanut gallery. It probably wouldn't stop him from doing so anyway. She looked from him to her outstretched hand, turning the palm to face herself.
"But...maybe I should get a bandaide first. Or maybe a couple bandaides."

He rolled his eyes when she told him to shut up. She was lucky he was in a good mood or he would add to the work on her face. But whatever, he wanted her in this mood, now she was in it. Victory was his.
"I hear Mommy kisses work well."
He teased.

The ghost of a smile that was growing on her face disappeared in the blink of an eye. She pressed her lips together, feeling both awkward and a little sad.
"Well, I can't have those."
He probably didn't know that her family was dead. Well, technically they were still missing, but it had been two years since the bombs fell. There was basically no hope at this point.

"No, but you can give them. You got Maddie now."
His parents were probably dead too. Probably. He didn't know, and he didn't care. If anything he hoped the old bastard was dead, and he hoped it hadn't been quick. The guy was scum.

The little smirk returned to her face, as it always did when she thought about her daughter.
"Yeah you're right, I do."
Maddie had been the best thing to ever happen to Olesya. In a very big way, Maddie had saved her. She helped Olesya center and mature and become selfless, because it wasn't all about Olesya versus the world anymore. She needed to protect Maddie, too.
"She asks about you, you know. She still has that unicorn."

He grinned at that. He liked the kid. He liked kids in general. He always had, with little kids you knew where you stood. They were honest, they were fun, and they didn't have ulterior motives. It was really relaxing.
"She is a cute kid. She should meet the girls sometime."

"I'm sure she'd love that. I told her that you had a family now when she asked about you."
Her warm smile widened slightly. Maddie got to play with a lot of kids in the Dragon Territory, but she would absolutely go gaga over babies. Maybe once everything settled down, she'd be able to make time for that.

"I'll talk to Bastille and see about setting up some kind of a play date then."
It would be good for the girls to get out and be around other kids too. Even if they were too young to really do anything, he felt that keeping them cooped up with no one but him and Bastille to keep them company would just lead to them ending up like their parents.
No one wanted that...

"Sounds great. Really."
The shadow of a smile etched across her lips. Curse him for effectively diffusing her KILLKILLKILL mood, now all she really wanted to do was take a long nap. And chop her hands off.
Speaking of, she looked down, her hands were bruised and bloody and really starting to hurt. Both her arms were throbbing all the way up to her shoulders.
"I should probably get some medical attention..."

"Just eat a damn candy. That's what they are there for."
Seriously. He rolled his eyes. He doubted it would be that easy, she was stubborn. And not in a charming and cute way. It was kind of annoying how pigheaded she could be. If you didn't move her just right she dug her heels in. Some things just never changed.

"No."
Her answer wouldn't surprise him in the slightest. She was far more stubborn than most people gave her credit for. In some ways it was a good thing: Standing her ground in the face of adversity. In this case, it was a matter of pride.
"I need...to feel the consequences of my actions. That's why I didn't eat one for my nose either."
She instinctively flexed her fingers, which shot waves of electric pain up her arms. Ouch...poor move.
"And besides, back in high school we didn't have that kind of voodoo. You busted your knee, you dealt with a big ol' nasty scab for a month. I'll live."

"Not this voodoo no, but we had our own things. As for me busting my knee."
He grinned at her with his old impish grin. Speaking of high school. Shrugging he took another step closer to her.
"I'm a strong independent black woman who don't need no man. That's the difference between us."
He teased.

Olesya shook her head, his child-like demeanor making her a loss for words. He could be serious for one moment, and then the next be pretending to be a strong independent black woman. It was just...she couldn't grasp the sudden change of pace.
"You're nuts."
She laughed despite herself.
