Back to Work (David/Open)

August shrugged.

"The east side is unruly. Add to that the assassins you've had to deal with and...being so far out of your guys' sights was....enough for David to ask for it. But only ten of us. We met up with the other forty about half an hour ago, and per Davids orders for your arrival we will be marching south east to relieve the Core wall guard there."

He crouched, grinning at Maddie.

"Hey kid- sorry we couldn't stay longer. We'll hang out another day, kay?"

Maddie nodded and moved to August, hugging him, before stepping back to Olesya. August turned to the men.

"Sky force- stick with the Voice. Everyone else, pack up! We're heading out in five."

"Okay! We need to play cops and robbers soon! Like we play in school!"

She hugged August tight around the middle. August and Youichi were like super cool older siblings or like an aunt and uncle to her. They were just as much family as Olesya and David were to her, even though Maddie hadn't seen David in a while.

Olesya bent down, picking Maddie up piggyback style before turning back toward home. It would take them a while to walk back to the house and get her ready for training. She didn't want to fly with her if she didn't have to.

"Two of you can stay on the ground, with me. I want the rest of you patrolling our route back to the nest."

"Aye, ma'am."

They took to the sky, the two remaining officers giving the Voice and her daughter some space.

"Mommy, are we going to see David?!"

Maddie asked excitedly, swinging her feet on either side of Olesya. Les's eyes narrowed slightly, but she kept her voice purposefully cheerful.

"Yup! Actually...remember the fun self-defense stuff Yu-yu teaches you? David wants to take over training for that, at the biiiiiig playground."

The 'big playground' was where Olesya taught all the big boys and big girls to be in the army, according to Maddie. The little girl cheered, excited for such an exciting chage of pace. She got to see David AND go to the big playground today!

It took them about a half hour to walk home, and she made the force stay outside while she took Maddie in to get ready. She had the girl change into sweatpants and a tshirt at David's request, and grabbed her little hand-made utility belt with the holster for her knife and little steel baton that August had made for her. She draped the belt over her shoulder and held out her hand for Maddie.

"Ready, Maddie-bug?"

They set off for the training grounds to meet David.
