"...buuuuuuuuuuut...."
He sighed, everyone sitting in the living room of his house with drinks. Barker was standing in the corner with his arms folded. A small frown on his face. Gemini was in the kitchen humming happily as she made tea and sandwiches to replenish everyone's plates. Avenger was sulking in the lazy boy. He didn't look too happy with this turn of events.
"So Rai tried to stop me from getting part of Barker's power from his dead body. And was using his new thrall or whatever to try and talk me into giving it to him so he could give it to Strike. Apparently he was under the impression that Strike would then give him more power. And that was best for us all."
Mathew rolled his eyes.
"This lead to Strike teleporting in and killing Hades with barely a touch. Hades was unable to pull out his soul."
Which was disturbing news to say the least.
"I assembled the rest of the Death Gods and I had them kill me and hold my soul to this realm. Keeping me anchored as I went to the Underworld. Using Sleipnir, which had been granted to me by Hel for use of this. Upon finding Hades we were unable to escape and having been in the underworld for some time he was finding it hard to break free of it's spell..."
Mathew didn't really want to go into much detail on the afterlife....
"I gave Hades Sleipnir and told him to go without me and I would find my own way. From there it was me and the soul of Barker, who had unwittingly come with me. Together we tried to find our way out, putting aside our differences and talking about the future, our goals, and Strike to keep our minds away from the spell of the Afterlife."
He didn't know what he would have done without Barker. He really had saved Mathew in more ways than one.
"I got enthralled... I spent eight months locked in a non stop battle. No food, no rest, no sleep. Nothing but fighting. Barker is the one that pulled me out. Without him I wouldn't have been able to escape from the Underworld. He saved my life. And so when I came back I decreed that his life was to be returned to him."
He paused and looked at Barker, who made eye contact with him for a moment. A small nod exchanged between both men before both of them broke it.
"A life for a life. And he has agreed to help us stop Strike, which was the reason behind everything he had done up to this point. The reason he could not join us was his mask. Which he is now free of. But it connected him to Strike, and he would have been unable to assist us in planning how to stop Strike without Strike finding out through the mask. An issue which we no longer have."
