"What about them?"
Olesya asked, deadpanned, her white eyebrows furrowing and her jaw setting. What did he possibly want with them? How did he know who she was? She was instantly suspicious.

He scribbled something then looked at her again.
"I represent Auroras Correctional Facility. We are planning to take either David Blaze, Storm Dragon. Or your Daughter, Madelyn. We offer you the chance to make sure that doesn't happen."
He gave a soft smile.
"You are...familiar with correctional facilities, yes?"
He said it almost on purpose...so she would be forced to think about it.

Her eyes flashed, this man had just hit both her weak spots int he same sentence. She was on him faster than you could say 'Oh shit,' knocking his clipboard aside as she grabbed his collar, hoisting up a fistful of fabric as she got in his face.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't drown you in this surf right now."

The clipboard was easily knocked aside, and the mans blank eyes and face didn't vanish as she lifted him. His arms hung limp at his side, and she would notice a thin metal collar on his neck.
"Our deal would save them both, but if you kill me, we'll assume you don't want to take the deal."
Whether she kept him there or not he would continue.
"If you agree to come with me and take their place, we will agree not to take them. Or you can kill me, and we will take them anyway. Trust me when I say, I'm quite physically inept, and you could snap my neck as though it were a barbie doll. But then...you would be condemning the horrors of our facility upon those two...and you don't want that, do you?"
He gave a gentle smile...staring again.

Olesya narrowed her eyes, glaring at him for a minute as she ran his words over in her head. How did she know they had the power to take David and Maddie? Why send such a scrawny man after her?
"How do I know you can follow through on your threat? What's stopping me from snapping your neck, Barbie doll?"

He smiled.
"Of course you can't take it on faith. Let me down and I'll demonstrate something for you."
Once/if she set him down, he would bring up his left arm and click his watch button twice.
Next to him, four masked men poofed, out of thin air, stared at her for a second...then poofed again.
"We have engineers hundreds of these men, whose Qi allows them to appear or disappear in seconds, anywhere they wish. We can take who we want, when we want. If I must, We can take David, or your daughter as proof. Unless you feel this is...sufficient."
He waited.

Olesya let go of his labcoat, letting him fall the two or three inches back to the pier. She watched his little show, unimpressed.
"Nice trick, Poindexter. But I don't have time for your two-bit magic show."
She pushed past him to leave the pier. She had better things to do than to humor him.

"Mommy?"
Behind her, standing next to the doctor was a masked man, and in front of him was Maddie, staring at her, scared but confused.
"Are these...men with you mommy? Where am I? How did I get here?"
The doctor was watching Olesya to see how she reacted, his clipboard now back in his hands as he scribbled.

"Mommy?"
"Maddie?!"
Her heart jumped into her throat as she whirled around, staring at her daughter who had only a moment ago been sitting in August's living room. She knew this because she'd left her in their care before going to find David. Her instant impulse was to kill both those men and get her daughter back, but she knew if she attacked one, more would come and her actions would put Maddie in danger.
"Take her back. Now. You leave her out of this."

The doctors head tilted...and the man and Maddie vanished.
"Take her back? Not yet. She is now at our facility. You have a choice to make, Olesya. We are content to study and experiment on her, or you can take her place. We will take David now, if you refuse, and will not come back with this offer."
He spread his hands.
"What will it be?"

Olesya grit her teeth. Her heart was racing so fast that it felt like it was beating out of her chest. She was exercising extreme self-control right now, because she knew she needed tot hink in order to get out of this alive, and to save Maddie.
"I will go with you under one condition. Maddie and David are to be granted full immunity. If you so much as touch them, I will rain hell on you all the likes you have never seen. It will be my life purpose to destroy you until there is nothing left. Do you understand?"

He nodded.
"Agreed."
He handed her a small gray block, super thin, with a button on it.
"This will detonate the small charge at my neck, killing me. Use it if you ever see David or Maddie there, as retribution. It will kill me no matter where I am. At least you'll have that revenge."
Two men would appear next to Olesya.
"Now, shall we go?"

Les looked at the button in her hand, tempted to push it right then and there, but then she wouldn't find Maddie. And who knew if she could trust the man that the button was legitimate? She put it in her back pocket opposite her phone.
"Fine."

The men would gently take her arms and poof.
The doctor would start walking back the way she came, scribbling furiously. Maddie would find herself back in Augusts home, dropped off among a massive host of Dragons who had been scouring the area.
Olesyas quest for the Trident would come to an abrupt end.
