"Mhmmm." There were bits of the eyepatch in the folded napkin, along with some ash. Preston would also see it was burned in some places!
"It was attached to someone else, but didn't take kindly to me pinning it when it was removed. It was able to pull the knife out of itself and wield it." Awkwardly.

He would take the knife and move to cut a small bit of the symbiote off since it was dead.
"Would you be so kind as to get my bag next to my bed. In the front pouch will be a case. Will you bring it to me please?"

That would explain the fake.
"This could actually be a big deal. It won't help with my staff, but we know Prota is here doing negotiations. That's likely going to lead to a contest. And if we have some of their tricks here with us. We can get ahead of them. If you would be interested in that."
He'd say with a gleam in his eyes. It wasn't cheating it was just... being informed.
