Soni chuckled. Jarring was right. "Yea a little, but I'm getting used to it. Earlier I met this girl that looked like a demon person! She was super nice, but man she jumped out in front of me and I was like WOAH." Soni warmed ul to people pretty quick. Some people might consider her information style rude, or annoying, but Soni was Soni and nobody could do much to change that.
"But its cool yknow? Seeing other people who aren't your average joe when it comes to appearance. All of us are people who cant be judged by our cover, and that's something really comforting." Despite her slightly-too-casual style, Soni could slip into being slightly philosophical. And that she did. It helped with the "dumb little kid" feeling, too... somewhat.

"That would be Oni." Ali gave a small nod, having come across no one else that looked quite like the other redhead. Though for a time, she had appeared human enough that the current conversation could have gone entirely different. In a way, she could see Soni and Oni getting along. They both had high levels of energy and expression, though part of her wondered, on a completely biological level, if part of Oni's expressive gestures was due to hiding her face. The reason was unknown, and not her business, but with part of the most expressive part of hte body hidden away, it made sense. Or maybe that was just who she was.
She continued with her speech, giving Ali a sense of wariness about the girl. They were pretty words, and something worth believing in, but she wondered if Soni actually did.
"True enough. Life is full of unexpected things, and people." On that topic, she switched her focus back to the other girl.
"So where are you from?" She was expecting some middle of nowhere territory.

Soni hopped up on the picnic table, making a grunt or two as she got up, and she let out a relaxed breath as she began, "Well, I lived most my life in territory 86. I've heard it used to be called New York, but like the northern part of that place." She began swinging her legs, because coincidentally the table was just tall enough that she could do so without touching the ground. "But I moved to this territory a couple years ago, and, well, any good memories I've ever had come from here. So, I consider this place my home."
A breeze danced through the air, and Soni adjusted her hair in response. "What about you, Miss Alison? What do you call home?"

Did she...did she just jump up to sit on a table? Where people ate? Ali blinked. Not that she disapproved on sitting on a desk if needed or leaning, but people ate on those picnic tables. Savages.
The thought faded as she noticed Soni seemed to have trouble even getting up in the first place, not relaxing until she was finished and speaking. She wondered if the girl had an illness. That and her apparent age softened the mental tired the redhead had been on. Energetic, cheerful, looking for the positive. It reminded her of Mae.
"So Prota? Or the area around it?" It sounded that way, at least. If so, she'd been lucky to escape alive. From what she heard, if you got free alive, you were all but a walking miracle.
"You're quite lucky to make it here, then." She nodded, straightened as some of the softness in her expression shifted to pride.
"I'm from Ayatlan, to the Northwest of here. Though I understand you'd likely know it as Territory 260." A land created by the might of the Earth Dragon. Developed. Rich and fertile. A floating island in the sky. Yes, it was home still, and it made her chest ache, thinking about it.

Prota... that rang a dark bell. A very dark bell. Soni had flashes of memory, remembering seeing that word on the lab coats of "scientists" and around the lab in miscellaneous places.
Soni's breath got heavier; her hands started to shake. She closed her eyes and began taking deep breaths while one of her hands quickly found the heart necklace she wore with the soundwave engraving. "Yea.. i know prota all too well," she spoke with a shaky voice.
After a couple more deep breaths, Soni opened her eyes and let her hand slide back down. She closed her eyes, tilted her head, cleared her throat, and resumed talking as her eyelids gradually slid open again: "Territory 260... yea I think I vaguely know that place. I'm still getting used to the territories." After her moment, Soni's voice lost a lot of the cheeriness it originally held. It was now much more calm. Not sad necessarily, but certainly less perky.

The energetic aura around Soni dissipated almost instantly at the mention of Prota. At that point, i twasn't difficult to discern where the girl came from. It was either that, or one of its protectorates, and neither would necessarily bring good memories to mind. There were physical signs to the girl's distress, labored breathing and shaking as she struggled. Ali frowned, this time out of concern as she took a step forward, uncertain if the frail-looking teen would drop or not.
Still, Soni was able ot continue with the conversation. If she needed the distraction after that, Ali could understand and had no problems providing one.
"I imagine so; it's surrounded by Cabal as a protectorate." That was the trade, after all. They provided mages and soldiers in times of need, and Cabal helped to keep them safe so they could study and live their lives in peace. Most of hte time, anyway.
"Most of the other territories nearby are, though not all."

"Interesting..." The thought occurred to her that this girl might have somewhere to be, but, Soni figured, that if she did, she'd probably mention something or end the conversation quickly. So, Soni would continue to learn as much as she could.
"So what's it like up there??" Her legs crossed, and her voice began to gradually regain cheeriness again. "By the way you can sit down again if you'd like," Soni offered, patting the table but in such a way that it gestured to the bench.

"Thank you, but no." Ali shook her head at the offer to sit. Soni was right in that she had other places to be. At the question of home, however, she gave a small, rueful smile.
"It's amazing. There's no other place like it. A floating island over the ocean, greenery and life everywhere, the waterfalls falling into the mist of the water below. There are plains surrounding it, too." Her voice turned soft for a moment, the redhead shaking her head as she realized her distraction.
"Another time, perhaps, though I would recommend seeing it for yourself one day."

"I should. Sounds like a fun trip." Soni sighed. "Welp," she paused to hop off the table, "I'm sure you've got places to be. After all you were just sitting her til I almost ran into you, so. Thanks for the talk though! I learned a lot!"
Soni slipped on her headphones. "Adios Miss Alli!," she said cheerily with a two finger salute-wave.
Unless interrupted, she'd play her music and walk off, getting lost in the music as before.

“God’s day, Miss Vox. Allison fidn’t Really have much more to add. The girl seemed to be in her own headspace already, the two of them parting ways and the world as it had always been.
She wondered if Soni was here to learn, or to be a soldier as well. Distaste crept up in her throat at the notion of a child soldier, though it wasn’t like she was the only one with that burden of it were true. Uncivilized. But she was also Protan. The concept couldn’t be foreign if the rumors were anything to go by.
She sighed, returning to the library for the time being. The world counties to move on despite Ali’s moment of homesickness. There would be time to dwell on that later.
