The Tide of War Rises (GM)

It was thankfully only a short journey from Camelot to Olympus, a hop skip and a jump from one home to the other.  There were things that he needed to do, both for himself and for the battle ahead.  Things to make sure everything he built remained standing long after he was gone.  From the symbols to the structures.  The paths lay out before him, and he knew which path felt right for him, but it was the paths of others that worried him.  He'd lost those he loved once, and the thought of losing what remained terrified him.  But he could not keep Evelyn locked up in a Golden Cage, it was not his way.  And he'd not expect her to remain caged even if he tried.  He knew in his heart that their paths would split at some point and that his road was always heading to a bloody end.  It was always a question of "When" not "If".  At least that's how he'd seen it.  Tried to avoid it with retirement, but nothing was free.  And that ten plus years had been glorious, but the price he had to pay was heavy.  The blood of his daughter and wife is what bought him those years.  He'd rather not pay with his remaining girl's life to try and die an old man.

And so he made his way into the cave of the Fates.  The first stop of many as the tides of war began to rise.

He would find the Fates reading the tapestry as he had before. Though they had not aged or changed from the first time. Woman in different stages of life. Old, thirty-something, and a teenager.

"War has come."

Says the oldest as they barely flinch from the tapestry. The middle aged one walks away from the tapestry and waits for Ares to speak. It was only polite.

[Mathew Amtrum]

He brought a fist to his chest and bowed to show his own respect.

"In more ways than one. How fares the Fates this age?"

"Busy, young Ares. Almost as busy as yourself these days. Minds full of uncertainty, hearts full of concern and fear."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"It seems I must add to that. I intend to visit the false Dragons and clean up that mess before approaching Zers and Asiv with my intention to go to the Deadlands to raise an army. My question is, will this path that I have chosen lead to the death of Evelyn Amtrum or Spike Sudeki should they accompany me?"

"We will ask the tapestry."

She walks back to it and runs a finger along a few threads.

"They are not fated to end on that path. Should the beast with red eyes decide to finish his job, all will die. Evelyn must come to control the power of her blood to avoid this fate."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"I see. Thank you."

He'd say straightening from his bow.

"Is there a boon you ladies would have of me in payment for your guidance?"

There was no reason to not try and keep himself on their good side.

The youngest looks up from the Tapestry and shakes her head.

"The one to help you with what we need is not yet of age... We can not ask it prematurely, else we risk it not coming to be."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"I will take that as a sign that my chances of living through this will be ideal at the least."

He said with a bow, making the assumption, but knowing enough to not count it as a certainty.

"I thank you, ladies, for your time then, and urge you to reach out should you ever have the need. I am in your debt."
