She'd observe again and try again, still unable to push the spike into being and still determined to keep it up, anyway. It still felt like a brick wall, running against it time and again and trying to force something to come out the other side, but there were times where it felt like she was on to something . But her will versus the earth stayed in the ground's favor.
They were going to be at this a while, complete with Eve stomping the ground and looking like she's throwing a tantrum.

She stopped at the redirect, more aware of her dissatisfaction affecting her progress. She didn't want to rely on anger to get it to work in the first place.
Taking a deep breath, Eve forced herself to relax and try again, forcing her will into the ground and through it, falling short again but feeling better about it. It felt like she had the understanding of what she need to do, but it wasn't enough. At least, she hoped that's what it was.

He'd nod and fold his arms over his chest, drawing in power and sending his own out to feel her progress in the ground.

She repeated the process again, stomping her foot on teh ground with the image of the spike in mind. Straight and to the point, bursting through the empty space and forcing her will into the ground, her energy pushing through the area closest to her with force, but hitting the elemental wall again with the earth having its own flow and form. In her mind, it was less flow and more breaking through with the same power.

She nodded and tried again, taking a small portion of relief in the fact that she seemed to be going about it the right way, just without the results they wanted.
After about an hour, progress seemed to be made. Eve's stomping the ground dind't result in a spike, but the energy she poured into it pushed closer and would stop near the surface instead of further down!

Like the stone, he manipulated Mathew could be patient and unmoving. And so it was for the last hour he spent his time watching as Eve slammed her foot on the ground, making progress by millimeters but progress all the same. Stopping now and then to redirect her, keep her focused and on task.
"Why do you think you've failed to make a spike so far?"
He'd ask, switching tactics and approach to try and help her get through this block.

The question made Eve pause, considering the idea and finding she didn't really have an answer, which was probably the most uncomfortable part about the training so far. What was she doing, or not doing, to keep from breaking through?
"I don't know," she admitted after a moment of testing different ideas in her mind. "At first, I thought I just didn't have a will strong enough to do it. Maybe I still don't, but if I didn't, I would be making progress." It wasn't self doubt; she knew she waned this and wanted to do it. She pictured the spikes every time, and she'd stuck with creating one instead of meany to keep from pointless burn out. But the results she had said it wasn't enough.
"It still kind of feels like breaking through a wall, but that's because it already has a solid form of it's own."

"That was my other idea," she admitted, lips twisting in a wry smile for a moment. She didn't want to rely on just force; sure, she could boost her own energy and try again, but that defeated the purpose if she had to constantly push herself to do a basic attack.

Her head cocked to the side a little as she considered it, then nodded.
"Alright." It was definitely worth the shot. She focused on what she wanted, willing the spike to exist before her foot connected to the ground, forcing it to form before it moved through the earth, pushing it towards her goal with a set line of her jaw.
This time, the spike pushed through the ground, breaking through ground this time and keeping the shape long enough to keep form, only to fall apart once most of it had broken through like loose gravel.
