She audibly sighed as the spike fell to pieces, feeling the frustration from her failures finally release.
"Talk about a breakthrough," she murmured. Literally and figuratively. She nodded, not afraid of practice. She'd be out there all day if she had to to make the spikes stay together.

He'd summon up another spike in front of them with a stomp on the ground.
"I want you to run your power through the spike and feel how I formed it. Feel how it's bonded together now that it's here. Then after that I will make a spike slower for you. Try to pay attention to how it's formed, how it breaks through, and how it settles. Okay?"

"Okay." She was already on it! She wanted to see for herself the difference one more time now that Eve had managed to succeed this far, taking notes as she nodded and felt the energy from eh spike as it formed. How the energy was still there, solid and persistent, but shaped differently. She could feel the influence of her father's qi in its form, in how i burst from teh ground.
Including the force that came with his foot connecting with the ground to jump start it all.
"It's different from yours," she noted after a moment, raising a hand to feel the spike. "It forms from what's there instead of piercing through."

"Remember we are manipulating and controlling all of the Earth, not just what is deep underground. The surface is ours to bend as well."
This time when he formed the spike it would be slow, inching it's way from the ground as he tapped his foot on the Earth. Hopefully, this would give her time to examine and really understand how it was formed.

Eve observes again, taking note of the reminder and internalizing the need to stop feeling like she had to dig deep. The flow stayed at the surface, flowing from the contact when his foot touched down, enough to send another demonstration that let her feel the process from start to finish and keep it in mind. She could feel it start the second he touched the earth. It seemed like a much simpler solution to the problem she'd been having, too.

He'd clap her on the shoulder, giving it a small and gentle squeeze of encouragement before stepping back.

Her smile widened into a grin as she nodded, turning her attention to the open space before them as her foot connected with the earth as it had time and again that morning, forming the image and energy for the spike before it ever happened and focusing on keeping it at surface level. The spike appeared more quickly than before and stayed intact, jagged and rough but still together other than the first section that crumbled when it broke through. A little spike, but a solid one.

"You got it." She tried to remember a time when she would have hesitated to do so, and came up with when she was little and didn't want to hurt people, but still believed her father was invincible. She brought her foot down with more force, pushing harder as she launched a spike at his chest!
It was able to break through teh ground without falling apart thanks to the extra force.

It would seem that the illusion of Mathew's invulnerability would remain firmly in place for his precious little girl, because the stone spike while solid would hit his stone armor under his clothing and be stopped there.
