It's not SO bad (Joy/Open)

[Pride]

So they had been exiled from their home, it was crappy.  Pride wasn't going to deny that, and he was hurt.  Anyone would be, but it happened and feeling sad about it wasn't going to change things.  He was worried about his people and his home, but he also knew they were warriors, and he was not so prideful to think that they couldn't get along without him.  No, they would be fine.  He was more worried about Joy, she was taking it hard.  Which again, who wouldn't?  And so it was for her sake that he put on a happy face.

"Come on Sis, don't be so sour.  Even you have to admit this place is beautiful.  Right?"

He'd ask, draping an arm over her shoulder as he gestured to the vibrant fields before them.  Clearly water was less of an issue here than it was back home.

[Joy]

They had been exiled from their home, and it was crappy. And stupid. And heartbreaking. And she really, really wanted to lash out at something with the pain that simmered inside, but Pride wasn't the one who deserved it. Hells, he was punished via guilt by association as much as she was. She worried about their people, their home, and found herself mentally comparing herself from teh open fields and sky to the woodland back home. There was so much blue...

She hated it.

Looking up at her brother at the touch, she looked back to teh world around them with a single glance, expression unchanged from it serious expression.

"It's not dead," she agreed with a flat one.

[Pride]

"You know what, I'll take it."

He'd let out a laugh, slapping her shoulders as they continued onward. She was moody, he wasn't gonna push it. She'd grieve and move on, or do what he's doing and push it away and not think about it! Totally healthy and mature. That's why he is the older sibling.

"What do you think people are like here? I bet they are fat."

He'd say it with almost amused amazement. Imagining people who have lived without hardship and knows not what it is to want.

[Joy]

She kept on walking without a hitch in her step, believing that, for a moment, there would be silence as they made their way further and further into the massive territory that bordered their own. The one that didn't invade, but didn't help. She inhaled a his question and let the silence linger. She didn't want to imagine these people. What did they even do with their lives?

"Probably."

[Pride]

"Damn, wonder what that's like? What do they even do all day I wonder."

He'd ask, voicing her silent question before sighing wistfully.

"So you know what I hope?"

He'd leave it at that, trying to bait her to engage and actually talk instead of stewing.

[Joy]

"No."

[Pride]

He was unphased by her brevity.

"I hope we don't have to kill em. Can you imagine how awkward that would be? Get kicked out of our home, and the first place we go looking for a new home we have to kill a bunch of them and get kicked out."

He'd chuckle again.

"That'd be something, wouldn't it?"

[Joy]

"Then it wasn't home." Her lips twisted with the bitterness of the last word. Home was a touchy subject. Home used to be good, not what it was now. It did leave her with a question, one she actually felt the need to voice as her frown deepened.

"What if they decide to move against home while we're there?"

[Pride]

"Good point, if we have to kill them it probably wasn't home."

He didn't like her second point, or rather question. So he'd deflect it!

"Well, I don't see why they'd do that. Far as I can tell they have never noticed home before. Doubt it is gonna change."

[Joy]

Joy made a noise of unhappy agreement with a slight nod. They had stayed away so far. It just seemed like the world would change now that home had too. Or at least, of course it'd happen while they were gone.

[Pride]

"You know you're gonna scare away the fat ones right?"

The scowl was powerful.

[Joy]

"Good." They didn't want them, anyway.

[Pride]

"That's not nice. I thought we didn't want to have to kill them."

Being unfriendly would probably just make that harder!

[Joy]

"If they're that soft, they need it." Including the insides. But she did try to lessen the scowl. A little.

[Pride]

He let out a long-suffering sigh.

"When you get to be as old as I am maybe you'll try to see things from someone else's point of view."
