"Louis Delcroix," she murmured, putting the name to memory. It wasn't one she'd heard before, but it seemed a good enough place to start. Provided the book wasn't as complicated as his explanation.
"Thank you, I will." She shifted , crossing one leg over the other.
"I'm surprised there were books at all. I didn't really have anything back home, so the fact they actually write about it just seems strange. But then, so does hearing anything about magic, too."

"True." She was used to the more mundane reasons for records, the day to day needs. But she remembered her mother mentioning keeping a journal when she was young, or when the small hoard of children were born. Made sense that history deserved to be kept for the future, too.
"That's the hope, anyway. I'm just not sure if I started at the right spot." She shrugged, unconcerned. She'd figure it out. "Guess that means I get to start writing if I do find something.
"Are you from Cabal, then?" She'd met one person already from a protectorate. He seemed to be from a different sort of place. Maybe it was the attitude.

"It's something to think about." She doubted it, but it was a nice thought. Her family would probably brag to anyone in hearing rage; the thought brought a smile to her face as she chuckled.
"That's up north still, right?" She was still getting her bearings. There was no academy where she was from. "I'm a bit closer to the other end. Territory 197, Saeta. Though you already know why I'm here. Hopefully I can take it back home to help with the border problems there."

Up where it was actually cold. Interesting.
"Both," she admitted. "Mostly the bandits. Vindicta doesn't normally send qi users to our area, but the bandits have been getting stronger lately. Every once in a while, we come across one"

"Me? Yes. The other bandits don't give me much trouble by themselves, and Vindicta is usually ready for a fight. But that doesn't do anything for the rest of the people there." She shook her head, trying to find the right words for it.
"Besides, I've already been working at it before I came here. More docile beasts. If I can get better with the gift I have, and they are okay, then I want to learn."

She couldn't tell if the boy was mockign her or not, which just made it worse. Drawing in a breath, she lifted her chin slightly.

"If you mean qi, yes." She's never heard anyone refer to it as anything else. Goodness knows what'd happen if there was something else to worry about. She shrugged.
"We're not the only ones affected by it. It's worth looking into." And yes, it would help back home.
