"He can be, but it's fine. I can handle you without him."

His eye flashed red as black marks began to spread down his face. The chaotic energy radiating from his body over them. He'd twist his arm when she grabbed her wrist to try and shift her to the side and throw her off balance as he twisted his body to send a knee rocketing up for her ribs.

And in the twist of an instant, she felt like she'd been sick for a week with nothing to eat, her body drained and limp as his knee hit her full on in the ribs. Sucking in a gasp, Brianna wound up choking n the air instead as she felt weaker than she ever had in her life. Bones shifted and cracked beneath the blow as she gripped him to stay upright, but there wasn't much strength to manage that with either.

"Damn." Well that wasn't going to work. With spots in her vision, she fired off a beam from her ring, pride keeping her from just admitting defeat immediately.

The voices whispered in Pride's mind as the mark continued to spread. His energy and mind spreading over everything, feeling the energy and movements of the world. Flashes of insight prickling at the edge of his vision. He felt it, the ring powering up with energy, her last-ditch effort. He moved into her, keeping her arm on the outside of his body as it fired.

"I can do that too."

He said though he didn't have to have such a catalyst for it. Chaotic energy formed on his body right next to her face. It's color swirling as it crackled with energy, shifting from hot to cold several times an instant. He didn't fire the beam, but let the energy build up so she could feel it without touching it. His threat, or warning if one would.

Hoooooly crap. The blood drained from Brianna's face as the energy formed right next to her, the temperature fluxing so quickly that it all just registered as a burning sensation as searing heat went to frigid ice and back again. She tensed, preparing to find some way to lessen the damage or fight back, but he just...held her there. Arm out and fully exposed to take the hit, but not delivering on it.

"Point made." She wasn't interested in a fight to the death, or attempted to death. She'd done this to see if his actions and power could match his words, and they did. He barely looked like he'd put effort into it.

"Looks like I've got a ways to go yet." She'd try to pull her arm free without attacking and take a step back!

[Pride]

His silence hung there for a moment, the black continuing to spread as his eye glowed brighter. His lips twisting into a smile, but one that held no mirth. The voices were louder, he could feel them clawing at the edges of his mind. The visions flickering, showing him everything and nothing. So many scenes, so many places. But so much was missing. Her words were drowned out among the others, like the buzzing of a fly. The energy building upon his body intensified as he prepared to fire.

I'm sorry, you were right, you're not a monster. We are a monster. We share this body and responsibility. So I'm sorry.

The words in his mind broke through the buzzing, the black on his face quickly receded away along with the energy build-up, his smile warming up again.

"Oh, it's all good man. I forgive you."

He shook his head, coming back down from his battle high.

"I'm sorry, I blanked. What did you say?"

Why was he still not doing anything? Well, the markings were, and that smile was super creepy, but it was like she wasn't even there. The beam in her ring lit up again as she directed it at the mask he wore, intending to knock off of the accessory in an attempt to distract him and break free of whatever she was about to get hit with. Asking for it wasn't the same as taking it to the face while he was doing...whatever it was he was dong.

Which was apparently apologizing? The response came out of nowhere as the beam lit up in her ring, her hand lifted into position but not firing as Pride came back to the fight they were having, though now Brianna eyed him warily. His talk suggested he wasn't the kind to just trick her,a nd she believed it, but it was also hard to gauge what happened.

"Yeah...you were kind of lost for a second there." The beam faded from her ring as his own did, the cheerful expression returning to his face as she shook her head with a slight rapid motion.

"I said you were right, and I have a long way to go. Can't just let my dreams be dreams."

He laughed.

"Now if only I could get my sister to agree I was right so easily."

Brianna rolled and shook out her arm her arm, with a bit more gusto than before as she huffed and grinned at the remark.

"Yeah, well, kid siblings. They're good at making life interesting for us."

[Pride]

"Joy's got a lot of pride in her. And it's hurt. But she is a sweet girl deep down. I believe in her, she'll come around. And until that happens I'll be here."

She had her anger to work out, but anger couldn't last forever. Not even with her monster egging her on.

"You really think you have what it takes to harden up though? Cause I'm gonna be honest. I've seen children on their first raid put up a better fight."

"I'll keep that in mind if I see her." Which she won't because dear heaven please don't make me rp with myself. Sounded like he knew her well and cared about his kid sister. Brianna just hoped Joy knew it, too.

Either way, she was caught by surprise by the idea of being worse than a kid! She was better than a lot of those back home, and now she couldn't help but feel like she'd just been told she was as strong as a newborn kitten.

"I do." She nodded once, a strong and slightly dramatic gesture. If she had to get better, she would, and she'd do it twice as fast as anyone thought she would. [/s]

He shrugged his left shoulder.

"Okay then."

Maybe she did, maybe she didn't.

Joy would shrug a shoulder right back at him! She didn't need Pride to believe her if she knew it deep down.

"So I take it things are good with you and Nekronaro again? You were talking about apologies again." You know, when he was spaced out with the black mark growing and a creepy empty smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"Yeah, we're all good. Partners to the end."

He'd say lifting his fist in front of him, clenching his fist before winking at her.

"Good." That was one less thing to worry about. That look alone had been more bone-chilling than having qi beast teeth digging into her flesh.

"So, I haven't eaten since....a day or so? I think?" She stopped, trying to count out the hours in her mind, but it had been a mind-numbing trek to the academy. The mother and child she'd come across during her travels had needed it more: Brianna knew she'd have another meal coming soon compared to them.

"What's the best thing to eat here?"
