"Admirable, but actions like that put us all at risk. There is little reason to sacrifice one of our team members when it isn't necessary. All it accomplishes is reducing the overall effectiveness and strength of the unit because of your ego."

[Donovan]

"You obviously weren't listening. For a smart guy you sure are dumb. I said I was making sure the enemy wouldn't cause any more harm to our team."

Donovan placed the metal arm on the table and gestured to it.

"And I was the only one there that could safely make that choice. Granted it did cost me the functionality of this arm. When it was given to me I was told it could withstand even the most hazardous of conditions before falling apart. However, the man failed to mention that he was referring to the metal alone and not the other materials and components involved. So, my 'action without thought' was thought about, and while you may disagree with my choice the fact still remains that the creature died and we survived. And more importantly, I have learned from that encounter. Every battle you walk away from, gives you opportunity to learn about you past mistakes. This is what makes a warrior grew in not just body but in mind and spirit as well."

Donovan normally wouldn't care to defend himself normally, let people think what they will. But this man seemed to think that just because Donovan didn't read books about fishyology or whatever that meant he was dumb. And Donovan wanted to show that this wasn't the case.

[Preston Salabim]

"Yeah, you fail to take into account the abilities of those with you. If you notice the rest of us managed to remain unharmed through the whole ordeal, and even adapt ourselves to avoid the danger you presented us breaking open the acid."

He sighed.

"I'm sure you wouldn't want someone as "dumb" as I to fix your arm. After all, you seem to have it all figured out."

[Donovan]

What the hell was this dude on???

"The concern wasn't how everyone avoided the acid. The concern was whether the creature would attack us as we turned to leave it to its fate. A dying monster rarely goes silently. Also, how did you know I was here to ask you to repair my arm? I mean you aren't wrong, I heard you were the best."

[Preston Salabim]

"No, they don't. But we all have the ability to deal with it. As for your intentions. It's obvious that a library is not your natural habitat. You are here looking to talk to me. And you spent a long time talking about your arm and the parts that are no longer working. Considering my recent work with others at Cabal and their equipment it seemed obvious that you were looking for me because you wanted something from me."

Such was the nature of the lower classes. Always clamoring for more.

[Donovan]

"Listen I don't know why you have decided to hate me just because I'm not like you. I was honestly trying my best to he a good team member. I've never had that before... before it was be the best anything less is unworthy. Now, I just try to help. I'm sorry if that wasn't good enough for you..."

He was deflated completely now. So much for making new friends.

"I did come here because I heard you were the best. I can pay you if you like. I don't have a need for a lavish living so the money I get paid is more than I need. If you don't wish to help me I will leave you be."

[Preston Salabim]

"I dislike you because you lack the basic fundamentals to function in a team in a life or death environment. The class about Qi crystals and shields was a glimpse of that, and the last mission highlighted it. You are a liability and you are going to get yourself, or worse, someone else killed because of what you don't know. I don't want your money, I don't need money. What I want is for you to buckle down on your classes, remedial if need be so that you understand what it is you can do, and what it is others can do. Because it is my job on the field to keep everyone alive."

He folded his arms over his chest.

"So I don't want your apology, I want you to do better."

[Donovan]

Donovan thought about it. He might not have been COMPLETELY wrong. He had definitely made a mistake... or two...

"Then... will you help me learn? There weren't really any classes in Vindicta. I was taught to read so I could read and write for the sake of orders and messages. Aside from that they just honed or physical skills. So, more than that I do not know."

[Lucifer]

"It seems I have little choice in the matter if I want to avoid needless deaths."

He'd take a scrap of parchment and scribble some items down before handing it to Donovan.

"Bring me these items and I'll fix and improve the arm."
