Drake raised an eyebrow to the wink.
"No offense, you aren't my type. And quite frankly I don't think you could afford my rates. But no, you are right. I do not know you're family. It would be interesting if all of your line does have that... uniqueness."

Gene's cheeks were quickly pink.
"Oh I uhm... Sorry I was kidding, I thought.. It would be funny.... Anyways uh yea-" Gene turned her face and coughed awkwardly. Definitely didn't work out well.
"Anyways, uh... I'd love to give you the chance to study my family but unfortunately I don't think there's too much to learn from two graves.... I do not have any siblings as well. I'll be happy to answer any questions though!" An enthusiastic grin accompanied her response.
Her response that was, of course, a lie. She quite liked this Drake man and greatly admired him, but did not trust him. While Gene knew briefly her family history and bloodline, she did not know many details. And truth be told, she didn't want to. That part of her brought shame to her family. Her parents were forced to move to a different town because one day, when Gene was 10, she lost control. Not only lost control, but destroyed a barn without a second thought. A barn with someone inside of it who didn't make it back out.
A barn, and a person inside of that barn. 14 year old Dustan Dwightworth was milking cows when Gene was set off. She had just found out that Dustan had been cheating families on the outskirts of the village out of food. Lying and cheating poor families who think that someone was actually helping them, actually giving them a chance. Gene was angry- beyond that. Before she knew what was going on, she transformed! In her swirling emotions, rage was in the center of it all. And then it was gone. Without the snap of a finger.
Vividly, so very vividly, Gene could remember the faces of her parents, former neighbors, friends, everyone she trusted in her life. Fear. Disgust. Confusion. And most prominent, hate. They hated her, and Gene hated herself.
That part of Gene was shoved down into the depths of her soul, not to surface or take control ever again. Most of that was thanks to her parents, they taught her how to suppress the shift for the most part. She didn't fight them though, she saw the look in their eyes. They were scared of her too, and they hated that part of her. The power, greed, anger, hate, disgust, ruthlessness, spite, jealousy.... all brought on by this other "form" of Gene. She knew it was her birthright, but she didn't care. Didn't want it. Didn't need it.
I may not hate people, Gene thought, but that doesn't stop me from hating myself.

Another branch was placed into the flame by the islander as he took heed in silence.

Drake would wave his hand.
"You can relax. I have no intentions of interrogating you. Or pressing further in your personal business. I was merely making a comment."

"Well.... I suppose that's all well,"Gene chuckled. "I couldn't give you many answers anyways." Sighing, Gene placed her hands in her lap.
"I've been traveling for a while, I should probably be getting some sleep. Would you like me to make you some tents to sleep in? For safety?" Before they could answer the question, Gene's hand extended in two different directions. Behind the men, two vines sprouted from the ground and wove into tents.

Laughter was quietly casted from the islander's lips. "No no, I need no tent. Though I thank you greatly, I shall attain what I sought to find!"
Triton arose and turned to the water. "A swim!" he shouted, hastening toward the moonlit sea.

Drake held up his hand as he stood.
"While you're generosity is appreciated, I still dont trust you enough to believe that you won't crush me in my sleep using your abilities. Besides, I must be on my way. I have a schedule to keep to. So, I'll be on my way. Safe travels to the both of you."
Drake would say with a nod as he left the small make shift camp.

Gene smiled and took down the tent. "Alright! Well, best of luck to both of you. I hope the rest of your travels are smooth and peaceful."
She wasn't upset, because she honestly didn't care if they took the tents or not. Her offering them was more to see how they would react so she could continue trying to figure them out. If they denied, as they did, they had the common sense that she figured they did. If they accepted, she would have been on her guard all night to see if they tried anything.
Gene relaxed her shoulders as she was once again alone in her camp, the sounds of the forest the only thing keeping her company.
