"Anyone else thinking this is a really screwed up situation?"
"Shit, Try FUCKED up Situation."
"I'm pretty sure that's the general consensus boys and girls."
"<.........>"
**************************************************************
It would still be dark out by the time The Crows reached the Nest. Marcus sat silent the entire time as he drove on through the night without rest, the remainder of the convoy trailing behind. The only spark of emotion he ever expressed since they left was a slight ghost of a smile when he was informed that Lucien had been picked up.
Well at least ONE thing had gone his way tonight.
His hands clenched and unclenched on the steering wheel, smoldering eyes narrow, never leaving the road as the Crows Nest loomed in the distance.
**************************************************************
"I can't believe we just let First Black go like that.......If only Fenris-"
"-What else could we do? She gave us our orders after all, It's not as if he could just Disobey without starting a kerfuffle neither side would have walked away from."
"I'm actually pretty scared for our Grim right now guys."
"Speak ye mind bruddah."
"Fuck! Natch he's not taking this well at all. Can't blame the big lug though considering-"
"-Nononono! Jesus you guys haven't you taken a look at his face?"
"The 'ell are you on about man?"
"There's Nothing wrong with Fenris' face Sleepy!"
"Nothing Wrong? Jesus CHRIST you guys! He looks just like HER!"
The rest of the Wolfpack fell silent for a moment. The way a tinge of fear was etched into the word Her they knew exactly who Sleepy meant.
"Fuck........."
"I can only imagine what's going through his head right now."
"I honestly don't think I wanna know."
**************************************************************
Pulling into the Parking lot nearby, Marcus shut the beastly vehicle down and popped out, gesturing for Ari to follow with a flick of his head as everyone else began to disembark.
"I want everybody in the Conference room now. Fox? Send a runner to wake up Everyone who needs to be woken up and Drag them there too. The rest of you are gonna be setting up the tables and Chairs."
To Ari he would put an arm around the boys slender shoulder. More to keep the boy from bolting than as a show of reassurance.

Ari kept his somber eyes at a constant wander outside the vehicle as they rode, noticeably despondent. When the trucks finally slowed to a halt in Crow territory he urged Eddie back onto his shoulder where the black kitten would be hidden under the teen's long hair.
Stepping down from the truck, Ari crossed his arms tightly across his chest again and waited for instruction without looking up at Marcus. When the man's arm went around his shoulders, though, he stiffened, but said nothing. The boy's teeth gritted and he willed himself out of the place... but of course to no avail.

Lucien entered the vehicle and, closing the door behind him, he finally unstealthed. The van took off, speeding back towards the Nest, empty save for the driver, and the slim man, who was about to take off the mask that had been suppressing his emotions for the last few hours.
The mask came off, and sweat dripped off the man's suddenly contorted face. The wellspring that had been plugged for so long, too long, had been finally freed, and the emotion inside him overflowed and gushed, sending wave after wave of raw emotion through his body. It penetrated as deep as bone, and his skin tingled. The sweat hid the oncoming torrent of tears, and his subtle whimpers would be lost in the storm of engine noise as the vehicle roared through the deserted streets.
He didn't say a single word for the entire trip.
It was, indeed, still dark as he opened up the door, revealing his reddened eyes to the Crow's nest. It wasn't much longer after the rest of the group arrived that the disheveled figure of Lucien entered the conference room.
"Lucien DeChain, reporting in."

All piled in, the Tengu sat in the back of the truck with some of the other Crow soldier's staring hard at one another, somber. Brooding.
They spoke with silent signals. No one outside their group would know what they were saying unless they spoke out loud. Subtle gestures. A flick of hair here, blinking three times there, tapping the collarbone...normal body ticks.
For the most part though, Birch, Nick, Heather, Sergei and Talon all sat in uncomfortable silence, not sure what to say or what to feel.
Finally, Heather pressed her palms against her knees, stretching her upper arms, arching her back and shaking out her long blonde hair. What do you think is gonna happen to her?
Sergei grunted and gave his chest a light tap, just above his heart. Die, probably.
Nick would scowl at the Russian man and stamp his foot once, dragging his heel back against the floor of the van meaningfully and shaking his head. No fuckin' way. Not her.
Do you really think they'll try to kill her?
We have to admit it is a possibility. You saw what that white haired woman did to that young man.
It is far more likely than a possibility.
Do you REALLY think so little of the First, Sergei, or are you just cranky because you didn't get your vodka ration?
The scarred Russian man snarled at the skin head as he began to sign back at the man rapidly. I think VERY highly of her. But I do not think her to beink above another man or woman. She has flaws and can make mistakes. Goink vith them vas a mistake.
Neither here nor there. Can you imagine her making any other choice?
The offer vas not equal. Ve may lose a commander and a powerful fighter, as well as the pin in the wheel of an ENTIRE alliance. They gave up a healer, a waif of a boy...girl...thing.
There, at least, we can agree.
The crew fell silent for a time, darkly brooding their situation.
So. They have the Zero.
SO zey say.
Delilah wouldn't have reacted that way if there wasn't a highly plausible chance of that. That's why she agreed to go.
Talon slammed his meaty fist into the door beside him, scowling darkly at the two across from him and Nick beside him. On his other side, Sergei only raised a brow.
Why is no one asking about what the people were like there? Those two dead looking people or that Cain guy she said she knew? The streets were covered in bodies; tortured and hung up like TROPHIES! Something isn't right about this. We need to find out why.
...Grim Prasad DID say there would be a debriefing...
Then lets hope it actually gives us some answers. And if the First isn't back in two days, we're going in to get her and the Zero ourselves.[/i]
The four who watched Talon speak all exchanged alarmed gazes before seeing the wisdom and the fierce pride in his mimed words in the jostling van. One after another, they slowly nodded their assent.
Exiting the van with the other soldiers, the men and woman of Tengu would hustle in ahead of the group to prepare a suitable conference room to meet Marcus' requirements. They could see the Grim was not happy with their situation and wanted to smooth the process as quickly and quietly as possible. Besides, this was Delilah's domain; they knew her strange Japanglish form of etiquette and followed through with it to the letter. There was tea, coffee, and housing arrangements made for their surprised guest.
Birch would go to watch over Oliver, ready to be summoned if needed.
The rest would stand as a silent vigil around the table, looming, sullen gargoyles that stared at the young black haired man in mild curiosity.
Now what?[/size]

Marcus was slowly pacing back and forth at the head of the room as Lucien entered. The Wolfpack, who were scattered around the room sitting on chairs and leaning against walls, immediately perked up at the sight of him, quiet looks of relief mixed with approval were passed around like a half burnt cigarette. Marcus would Beckon Lucien to find himself a spot inside, the Wolfpack reaching out and giving him a pat on the back or waist, clearing his throat as he took his spot at the head of the Table.
"Ladies and gentlemen." He would begin, his voice low and level almost to the point of monotone, eyes scanning the room. "I'm pretty sure you are all as confused as I am over what exactly just happened tonight so lets take it from the top."
With clipped proficiency Marcus recounted the sorry tale from Finding Kyle to mustering the crow army, to the infiltration of Rogue territory to Kyles poor fate to the confrontation and back home again. Despite the bubbling cauldron of anger in his chest, he managed to remain impartial and analytical, giving only the facts.
"Unfortunately with the possibility of Unfettereds involvement and the direct involvement of First Black, leads me to declare we treat this matter with the utmost secrecy and delicacy. This means that what we discuss here DOES NOT go past these doors, do I make myself clear?"
Marcus would wait for everyone involved to acknowledged before continuing.
"So for now, we maintain the status quo until First Black returns. As per her orders I shall be handling the Crows day to day with the help of Tengu squad acting as advisers. Any situation that requires her presence shall be handled by myself in her stead until her return. From this moment she is simply far too bogged down by work to see anybody. Fox you and the Wolfpack will manage Anaheim and send me reports while I remain here. Business as usual guys with Brother DeChain operating as the go between for East and West sectors."
Marcus then reached over and put a hand on Ari's shoulder, bringing him forward and in view of everyone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce Asthma. As you all know he was part of an exchange with the First Black. A Sort of 'collateral.' Now whether or not his worth equals anywhere near First Blacks remains to be seen. For now, he will be treated as a new member of the crows working under Brother DeChain. I trust Lucien that you will keep a constant vigil over the boy. As to his treatment, despite his affiliation with these....'Rogues'. " Despite his best effort Marcus could not mask the venom as he spat the word out. "He is to be treated as one of our own. They may be monsters, but WE are not. In the event.....In the unlikely event of the Firsts death during her stay, no Harm is to come to the boy. Do I make myself perfectly fucking clear? Tengu, Wolfpack, Tomorrow I want a meeting where we will discuss our actions in the event of this potential situation. Let me assure you I fully intend to ensure that Killing Delilah Black will be the last mistake they ever make."
Eyes Scanning the room, Marcus would let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding before wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. "Any Questions?"

Ari would glance up as Lucien entered the room, his heart giving a surprised shudder. As soon as his eyes had flicked up to see him they glanced down again with involuntary meekness as a rush of choking apprehension came upon him. It was somehow worse to see a familiar face, someone to remind him of who he'd pretended to be. They were friends before and there wasn't much in the way of that. Ari felt terribly exposed, branded with a terrible name: a rogue alone. He kept his eyes closed...
Standing before the crowd, the tresses of black hair that hung in his face like a veil couldn't protect him when Marcus clamped his big paw down on the teen's shoulder. It took every ounce of willpower Ari had left to keep a straight face. All at once he could feel the eyes in the room shift to him like needles that pricked the teen's dwindling confidence and his skin with nervous goosebumps. He kept his eyes closed...
And again the boy's heartbeat stuttered in silent panic. Lucien. Lucien was going to be in charge of him. How was he supposed to face that? Ari still hadn't managed to make his eyes open to catch a glimpse of the man's face, afraid of what he might see there. Crows and Rogues were supposed to be allies, but did Ari's lies make them enemies? He desperately hoped not and kept his eyes closed...
I am a monster. I've done terrible things. They're all terrible. They're going to kill her. Then they're going to kill me.
Ari opened his eyes and seemed quite taken aback by something that had just been said. Just a minor player standing not-so-tall on the sidelines, he glanced up at Marcus who continued to speak. Yes, he had a question. Did Marcus just say no harm?

Lucien sat down across the room from Ari, avoiding his gaze for the time being. He still wasn't sure how to feel about the boy, especially since his emotions had been on overdrive since taking that mask off. He now knew the dangers of leaving it on all night.
As Marcus began, in a tone that sounded way too official for him, Lucien listened on, taking in as much information as he could. About Kyle, about the 'Rogues', and about their plan.
Lucien was quite surprised to hear that he was to be in a key position for Anaheim's security. He was, after all, the junior man in the pack, and the youngest. Or so he thought, he still wasn't sure how old Silent was.
As Marcus went on to refer to Ari, Lucien finally looked to the boy. And whimpered. Ari...
Lucien was snapped out of his trance by Marcus saying that he was to protect Ari. That was a surprise. Of course, Marcus had never heard of their past encounters, but he did have access to Lucien's watch list, which contained Ari and Saul Kelly, among others.
Lucien nodded. He understood his duties. Do not let Ari come to harm. That was easy enough, Lucien didn't want him to be hurt either. Of course, some others might have some different ideas about that.
As Marcus opened up the floor for questions, Lucien stayed silent. Everything was clear to him. He just hoped Delilah came back soon. He grimaced internally as he realized that he'd be pulling double duty. Which meant he couldn't sleep until the following evening.

The five Tengu present would all grin fiercely at the Grim's words, particularly those regarding what would happen if Delilah didn't make it back. Sergei cleared his throat after a moment and nodded curtly.
"Ve vill be present, sir." he vowed with a grim note of firmness in his voice.
Meanwhile, Birch watched the young, dark haired man that had come from the dead lands with his infinitely amused smile and bright green eyes.
"We could just pass him off for the First. He has her hair and almost her eye colour." he chuckled.
Heather looked at him incredulously and smacked him upside the head, turning to look at Asthma apologetically.

"Thank you Brother Sergei." Marcus replied to the grizzled Russian with a bow of his head before rounding on the Joker of Tengu Squad. Birch I swear to God almighty I have ZERO patience for you right now." The members of the Wolfpack who were chuckling into thier sleeves at the man's comment immediately shut thier mouths and went ridged still. "So Unless you want me to pull you inside out, Shut the FUCK UP! Anymore questions?"
Fox would then slowly raise her hand. "Sir, If we encounter members of the Rogues within our borders, given our Alliance-"
"-Alleged alliance, thank you Fox. Until we get the final word from First Black WHEN she returns, standing orders will be to monitor thier activity within our borders if they are discovered and eject them if they are deemed hostile. If on the chance that they resist or become hostile afterwhich then you have full permission to Terminate them. Simple as that."
"Ah, those are the orders I love the most!"
"You mean Fuck everything and let god sort em out?"
"You Betcha! Makes like simple that way."
Marcus shook his head and let out a smile sigh. He was, simply put, nowhere NEAR the right mindset for this. Already his hands were starting to shake from his outburst towards Birch. "After the bullshit from tonight I think we ALL could use simple. Alright guys, I will remain here for now. Wolfpack, take our troops and go home, the rest of you go to sleep. In fact I want ALL of you on rest period tonight, no duties. We are gonna be FUCKING busy tomorrow. Pup, you stay here with the boy, I'll let you in on what you two will be up to in the morning. Remember guys and gals, not a SINGLE peep about this to anyone outside this room. Alright, You're dismissed."
Marcus would then pull over a chair and slump into it, remaining there long after everyone else would have left.

Lucien didn't laugh, or even crack a smile, at Birch's joke. He was too damn tired for jokes, and, like Marcus, not in the mood. Though, he wasn't angry, he was just so emotionally fatigued that laughing at a joke would knock him out cold.
And so, he was very glad when Marcus told him to stay at the Nest for the night, and that he should sleep. For one, it was better than trekking back to Anaheim, and two, it meant he could sleep, instead of being up for potentially another 24 hours. For three, the sleeping quarters at the Nest were marginally better than the ones at the barracks in Anaheim.
But, if he was in charge of Ari... Lucien's face remained unfazed as he realized that they would have to share a room.
And more than that, he started to dread confronting Ari, which he knew he'd have to do before he could sleep. It wasn't that he was angry, or spiteful, or even sad. He, of course, felt a mixture of those feelings, maybe even a little betrayed.. But mostly, he was just afraid that he would start bawling on Ari's shoulder at the slightest provocation.
But, as the meeting ended, Lucien stood up, looked over to Ari, and motioned him to follow. His eyes looked tired and puffy. His face wasn't in it's usual blank slate, in fact, a frown was stressing his lips. His hair was even slightly out of place.
If Ari followed willingly, he'd make his way to his room, which, conveniently, had an extra bed in it.

Birch would mime zipping his lips unabashedly under the scowls of the people seated around the table, folding his hands in front of him like an innocent little school boy. One could almost imagine a halo flickering into view above his head.
Talon rolled his eyes at him.
As the group was dismissed, Tengu would be the last to leave, even as they were the first to arrive. Cleaning up the room, setting it up for the next meeting...save for Marcus, whom they left to sit in his chair and brood.
