Let us open up our hearts
Without fear of anything
So, school. The day was a hot one, although she could tell that it was getting a little cooler. Nothing too drastic, or at least she'd hope. She was never sure about the weather in California, more so because she never noticed any changes. Mind you, she had been out of it since her last school. Things didn't seem to want to go her way, the flight of freedom seemed to crumble for a little while, plus her accident. The seasons had no meaning, nor any effect. Nova was far more focused on avoiding people and pretending that she was living life the way she wanted. Fooling herself. How silly.
After wasting a good portion of a year, there was no staying that way. Counting tiles, avoiding confrontation, and making friends. It was all so foolish, right? People go through worse things all the time, they seem to push on and walk with their head raised.
When she did look up, there were people with smiles and frowns, even if their had scars and various other woulds. All of which probably told a great story, but the point was, they were able to move on a get going with their life. Why was she so fixated on it? Worrying over stupid things that were long since lost to the sands of time. Even if it had been a year or more ago.
Could she even remember how long ago it had been?
She was trying not to stick out, letting her hair grow out, wearing plain and boring clothes. Yet, she continued to dye her hair. Black with purple at the ends, it was just something from her past life she couldn't give up.
Standing in front of a mirror, the dark haired girl looked at herself, clad in flannel pajamas, her hair was long and she had faint rings under her eyes. She couldn't sleep, she didn't eat as often, it was a chore to go grocery shopping. So it was only done if it was absolutely necessary. Her dark skin was slowly growing pale, she hadn't been out all day in the sun for a long time.
A ugly shadow of the confident and friendly person she was.
Sitting on the edge of the bathtub, Nova looked down at the bathmat, thinking to herself. Why was she doing it all? Was there any point at all. Thoughts poured into the girl's mind, leaving her worried and a little down trotted. It was another school day, one of the main reason's she was so often pulled into the social world of humans.
Allowing herself time to think, she'd prepare for school. Shower, changing, brushing, and all that nonsense. Without fully noticing it, she took a step in the right direction. She'd wear something a little more like her old self.
A white empire waist dress, with frills, a ribbon, and cute little puffy sleeves. It reached just above her knees. Over the dress she woke a black hoodie, it had pockets in the front, but she didn't zip it up. It would kill her other wise... Hot day + sweater= death? Along with purple and white thigh high stockings, black Mary Jane's, and her black collar. Yes, it was odd, but she remembered wearing it a lot before. Why not?
Sighing, she'd look in the mirror, her hair was fluffy, she felt like a baby chicken. Sadly, there was no more time to deal with it, or she'd be late. Grabbing her bag and an apple, she'd lock up and head off to school.
The day started out warm, but as it went on, it got worse around noon. After lunch, she was up to the computer lab, a room quite warm, with the odd flickering florescent light, and the hum of the outdated computers. Not exactly the place she wanted to be after lunch. Maybe it was a bad idea to wear the sweater.NO GIVING IN. Taking a seat in the corner of the first row of computers, she was lucky. There'd only be one other person beside her. Which worked for her. Being sandwiched between her classmates didn't sound like fun. Heck, IT SUCCCKKEDDD. They'd talk around her, or try to get her to talk. Something they knew all to well she wouldn't do.
'freak. what a betch.'
'I know right?'
She got used to it, although it did hurt a little. Sadly, it was all her fault, so they weren't to be blamed. In the background, there was laughter, weird comments, and all sorts of other nonsense.
"I COME TO YOU WITH BLEEDING MEATTTT!"
Followed by howls of her classmates as they nearly died of laughter.
"Turpentine.. What the fuck is that?"
"Wikipedia says... Turpentine is a fluid obtained by the distillation of resin obtained from trees, mainly pine trees. It is composed of terpenes, mainly the monoterpenes alpha-pinene and beta-pinene. It is sometimes known colloquially as turps, but this more often refers to turpentine substitute Get it?"
"No."
Followed by more laughter.
Heat + loud noises + flickering florescent lights+ sweater + computer screen= Headache.
Bringing a hand to her head, Nova sat in silence before reaching for her binder, flipping it open to the correct page. Man, her head killed, sadly, it wasn't reason enough to ditch the afternoon classes. They didn't get quite, of course not. There was a sub, who would behave?
"Anyone got any Advil? My cramps are killing me."
The girls giggled and some of the young men grumbled, commenting and saying too much information. Of course, girls were always able to just call out for Advil to help them, since there was always someone packin'em. Sadly, she was too much of a coward.
I can last through this class.. After this. Just one more.... ugh.
