It was good to be out of the hospital. His shoulder still hurt a bit, and his back was sore. But he was back in action. A road bump had been passed, and with it a hundred doors had opened. Even without the title of Pillar Mathew had what he wanted from the fight. There was no such thing as losing for Mathew, anything was a win, if you knew what to do with it. It was just about not being daunted.
The Reapers were starting to emerge, a force that would rock the school, the city, and the world. His own presence as one of the leaders was all but unknown. Even the members didn't know that he was actually a leader, only Leon and Chrynos knew that. None of the Dragon's would betray the others either. All three of them given different ranks among the gang, all three of them ruling it.
Things were just starting to happen though, it would be some time until everything was truly in place. Unable to speed that process up the Earth Dragon had decided to take the day off. A day to clear his head and relax. Give the seeds he had spread time to grow.
That was why the well known fighter known as the Earth Dragon sat alone on a bench. Looking over at a pond in the park. Finding comfort in his solitude, gazing upon the still surface of the water as if divining the future, as some Pagans believed you could. In truth, he was just enjoying the fresh air, moments like this were few and far between for the Dragon. He savored them while he could.

Sara wandered down the paths of the park, heading towards a small pond. It was fairly warm, but the breeze, cooled by the water of the pond slightly, blew over her bare arms, causing her to shiver slightly. She knew she should have worn a jacket, or at least brought a hoodie to wrap around herself. Now she was stuck with her tank top. She had thought she would be warm enough, but she found she was a just a little chilly as she wandered around the park.
There was no one else in the park as far she could tell, and she was ok with that. She just needed to get out of the lonely apartment. As much as she enjoyed the freedom of living practically alone in her uncles place, she found she could get lonely at times. Well lonely really wasn't the right word. She pushed it from her mind, the fact remained, she just wanted some time out of that empty place. And yes, the empty park would do just fine.
Her jeans, too long for her, swished softly along the ground as she walked. She stared up into the sky as she walked, her hands in the pickets of her jeans, lost in thought, listening to the sound of the wind in the trees. Finally, she hit the pond. She cut off the path and walked down to the edge of the water, plopping herself down on the ground. She sighed, leaning back on her hands, staring out across to the other side.

Mathew had been more then content to sit alone in silence in the park. Gazing at his reflection in the pool. Imagining the day when his dreams came true. Thinking about the day that he would rule not the school, not the city, but the world. His attention was caught by movement on the other side of the pond. Moving his emerald eyes up he would see the girl sitting on the other side of the water.
He would look at her, trying to make out features from the distance, she looked cute, which was a plus. And she was minding her own business, which was also good.
His mind went from his ambition and what he was doing to the moment at hand. To approach or not to approach? Well obviously he was going to approach her, but the question was how was he going to go about it. Sitting on the other side of the pond left little room for subtleties, not that he always used those. Maybe he would go with a company approach, two young people, alone in an otherwise empty park.
Standing up from the bench Mathew would simply make his away around the pond to the girl. If she didn't move as he approached he would plop down next to her, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. And to Mathew it was, he did what he wanted.
"You looked lonely, thought you might want a bit of company." He would say with a grin, his green eyes flashing over to hers seeking to make eye contact. He liked making eye contact, most people were not used to it and tended to avoid your gaze. There was just something about eye contact that made it easier to read a person, it was also a good way to establish dominance.

Sara sat at the edge of the pond, her gaze staring across the pond, yet she focused on nothing, saw nothing. Her mind was miles away, thinking about other things, examining her self and her life, trying to decide what the next step would be for her.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even notice the guy on the other side of the lake. In fact, she didn't notice him until he was almost three quarters of the way around the lake. The sound of a small animal in the tree behind her snapped her out of her thoughts, and she looked around, trying to remember where she was. She saw no one in the park with her. She was completely alone, except for a guy making his way around the lake towards her. She watched him wearily, hoping he changed his course, and that he wasn't dangerous. She was in no mood to be fighting today, and she damn well wasn't dressed for it.
As he approached she decided her best bet was to hold her ground. She really wasn't afraid. If she had any idea that this guy was the Earth Dragon she probably would have been, but as it stood, he was just some guy she had never seen before, and she could probably take him.
She watched him approach, never moving her eyes from his figure until he had almost reached her. She turned her gaze back to the pond, watching him now from the corner of her eye. He walked right up to her, plopping down on the ground next to her. What the hell is wrong with this guy...?
"You looked lonely, thought you might want a bit of company."
She turned her face back to him, staring right into his eyes. But there was something wrong with them, they didn't look right to her. She wanted to turn away. Turn away, get up, and walk away from him. But she didn't. She shivered, and even though she tried to hide it, it still shook her body. She held his gaze, and flashed him a quick smile back.
"Well that was really nice of you." There was a cold edge to her voice, a warning in it, telling him it was best if he just walked away now.

Mathew was never one to take warnings to heart, implied or otherwise. He would just lean back, his arms supporting his body as he leaned back looking at the pond. If she wanted to go then he would let her, if she was going to stay then he would let her. While Mathew was certainly someone that she should be afraid of, it was not for the reasons that she would probably think.
He wasn't one of those rapist types, and he wasn't out to harm anyone, right now. He was just looking to relax, and he could think of no better way then to flirt. She was young, about his age. Probably went to his school even. Most kids in the area did. It was a pretty safe bet, unless she went out of her way to go to this park.
"Student of PHS #259 right?" He would ask as he shifted his weight, his green eyes still fixed on the pond now.
"Just guessing since you look to be about my age. And we are in the district. Thought I would introduce myself." He said in a cocky tone. It was clear to anyone that heard him speak that he had a pretty big opinion of himself. And he did.
"Mathew Amtrum, The Earth Dragon." He said it in a blunt voice, he was expecting some kind of reaction. Normally his name proceeded him. But there were rare times that it did not. If she didn't know who he was he would leave it at that. She would find out on her own soon enough.

She watched him closely. It seemed that he completely ignored her implied threat. He leaned back, relaxing himself, looking like he was going to stay for the long haul. She sighed, turning from him to look back out over the pond. She would be damned if she was going to leave because of him. Plus, he was attractive, even if he did seem utterly intimidating. She could handle herself though, she was confident about that, and so she settled back on her arms as well, intending to stay. They sat in silence for a few moments.
"Student of PHS #259 right?"
She dropped her head to the side to face him. When she didn't answer right away, he continued. He spoke in a very cocky tone, like he really thought he was all that and a bag of chips. Who the fuck is this guy? She turned back to the pond. She wasn't sure she wanted to give him her name, especially if he went to her school. Everyone at that school was fucked in the head, and she didn't want to become involved with any of them, other then being classmates. Even being classmates was to much sometimes. She sighed. She hoped he didn't give her his name. And then of course...
"Mathew Amtrum, The Earth Dragon."
She glanced towards him. The name sounded familiar, but she couldn't quite place it. It was right on the tip of her tongue. She decided to give in.
"Sara Quinn." She dropped her gaze back to the pond, trying to think of where she had heard the name. She had only been there a few weeks, and if she knew his name, it must be because he had been involved in something big. She thought about some of the events that had taken place since she started at the school.
And then it hit her. She froze, her muscles tensing. He was one of the two from that fight a few days earlier. The one that destroyed half the courtyard, and the cops had been called. She turned her head sharply back to him. But that had only been a few days earlier, what was he doing out here? From what she had heard, he had been near death... She thought about the other things she had heard about him. OH NO, No way... This was definitely not someone she wanted to get involved with.
She flashed him a tentative smile, and a little laugh, trying not to betray her real thoughts. She had to get out of here before he killed her. She was nervous, not having ever expected to deal with this.
"I, uhh, should get going. Nice meeting you Mathew." She pushed herself to her feet.

He let out a small chuckle seeing her reaction, it seemed that his reputation proceeded him yet again. There were certain perks to that, but in this case it was a bit of an annoyance. He wasn't some crazed psycho that went and killed random people. Sure he had been known for the random beating now and then, but mostly it was when people disrespected him. And those random beatings were mostly in the school.
He turned his head watching as she got up, he would raise his eyebrow in a curious way as if asking her what she thought she was doing.
"Oh? Leaving so soon?" He asked, a small smile on his face hinted that he would take offense to that. And everyone knew what happened when he felt insulted.
"You don't want to chat?" He would ask slowly standing up himself to look down at the shorter girl. His pale green jacket still had some of the ground clinging to it where he had sat on it. Mathew folded his arms waiting for her to sit down, talk, or try and run. Her reaction would determine what happened next.

She pushed herself to her feet, avoiding his gaze. She brushed herself off, giving him another small smile, and was about to turn away when he spoke.
"Oh? Leaving so soon?...You don't want to chat?"
She stood up, looking down at her. She froze, not moving, trying to decide what to do. She managed to keep the look of fear off her face. Or at least she thought she was doing a good job of it. She didn't know what to do. From everything she heard, this guy was dangerous, especially when he was angry. Maybe she should stay?... He really looked like he would be offended if she left. Obviously offending him wasn't a good thing.
Finally, she made up her mind. She nodded to him, dropping back to the ground and staring out at the pond. She would wait this out and see where it went. If anything, getting on his good side might be a good thing. She crossed her arms, trying to block them from the wind. Maybe he would think she was cold and just let her leave. But either way, she had made her decision for now. She would stick it out and see where it went.

She did a good job at hiding her fear, better then most kids did. If it wasn't for the momentary look of deer in the headlights when it clicked who he was, he might have thought she wasn't afraid of him. Still, she did sit down again, that brought a small grin to Mathew's face. If only everyone else was this easy.
Mathew sat back down next to the girl, content to have company, even if they might not be fully willing to spend time with him. That was rarely ever a concern for him. He had friends, but it was always nice to meet new people, new people to use. Who knows, she could even be useful to him someday.
Turning to look at her, a pleasant grin on his face he would brush the bangs out of his face, he almost looked like a normal teenage boy. He probably would have if you didn't know him.
"So Sara, how long have you been attending 259?" He asked starting up the small talk that might eventually lead to real conversation.

Sara turned her head to watch him as he sat back down next to her. He turned his head to her, smiling. She smiled back. See? This isn't so bad... He's not going to kill me... She took a deep breath, sighing. Right.
"So Sara, how long have you been attending 259?"
She thought about it, deciding to oblige him. "Umm... actually only a few weeks. Hell of a place... Everyone there is a bloody psycho."
She drew her knees up to her chest, leaning her head on them as she looked at him. She was curious about him to say the least. She had heard a lot about him, mostly just people saying things like "stay the hell away from him" and "watch out for him", and, like anyone would be, was curious to know what was so great... or not so great, about him. He didn't seem that great to her. He seemed kinda cocky and... narcissistic. Basically what most people were these days. She wondered if she should ask, or if he would take her head off for it. She decided to go ahead and ask, he was cocky enough to give her an answer.
"Why is everyone afraid of you?"

A small chuckle escaped Mathew's lips when he heard her say that everyone was a psycho at that school. She wasn't far off the mark, but it wasn't just in this school either. The world was rotting from the inside. Crime rising up to an insane degree, politicians more corrupt then ever. Things were so bad that teachers could carry weapons, and children could be kidnapped for testing. Mathew was one such child, having been abducted and tested on by Sean Barker. He would of liked to say that without it he wouldn't be the man he was today, but in reality, he was already the man he was when he was taken.
"As for why they fear me? That is a good question." He said leaning back slightly as he pondered his answer for a moment, then turning to look at Sara he would give her a warm smile.
"Well I suppose it could be a few reasons. I mean I am a good fighter. People fear power that they don't have. Tough as nails, there was this one time back at my old school. Took three bullets to the chest, walked away. That freaked some people out." He said as he continued to think of what to tell her.
"Oh, and there was also that one time where I crucified a blind kid cause he threw a rock at me. That was pretty fun." He said with a small chuckle.
"Ah, memories." He said before turning his full attention back to the girl, his eyes fixed on her before he spoke again. "What about you, do you fear me?" He asked, a small smile playing upon his lips.

She watched, kind of getting pissed off that he would laugh at her about her question. She had been completely serious, and his laughing at her only offended her. It only pissed her off more when he turned his head, giving her a warm smile. What the hell was wrong with this guy?
He seemed to think for a second then answered her. She was disgusted by what he told her. Ya. He was dangerous. Very much so. She knew it would be a bad idea to get on his bad side form what he told her. He seemed so proud of what he was saying. It was... disturbing. He even had the nerve to laugh at crucifying a blind kid. How could he consider something like that fun?
"Ah, memories. What about you, do you fear me?"
She hadn't turned her face from him once while he had spoken, her expression remained the same. She wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of reacting to what he said. He was smiling at her as he asked this. She wanted to kill him. She was surprised by how much she wanted to hurt him.
She gave him a smile of her own and lifted her head, staring back out over the pond as she contemplated how to answer.
"Lets put it this way... I think your a sick, narcissistic bastard." She turned back to him, a smile still on her face. "And no, I'm not afraid." She was completely serious. She was not afraid of him in the least. What he did do, was deeply disturb her, but she wasn't going to tell him that.

"Well I won't deny I can be a bit of a narcissist, but I wouldn't go as far to say sick. People, judge far to quickly. If one was to kill a child, he would be called a monster, but if that same child was carrying a bomb, then he is a hero." He said with a shrug. He honestly didn't care to much if some random person didn't like him. There were a lot of people that loathed him, wanted him dead. And there were also a lot of people that would leap in to danger to save him. It was the way of the world.
"I welcome you to think what you want about me, I know that I am here for a reason. And if being the monster is what is needed then I will be the stuff nightmares are made of. People, only rise to their best in a crisis. They will rise up against me, or with me. Either way, my goal is complete."
His tone as he said this was serious, he was very much aware of how full of himself he was, but he also knew that didn't mean he was wrong. He may be young, but he was important, he was powerful, and he would not stop short of death.
One way or another a new world would be formed, a world united against him, or the utopia that he would create. He would live in his perfect world or die trying to make it happen. That was something he decided on long ago.

She listened to him patiently. She didn't understand some of what he was talking about, but in some ways, he made a good point. But was he saying that the blind kid he crucified, figuratively, had a bomb? That he was a hero for what he did?
"I welcome you to think what you want about me, I know that I am here for a reason. And if being the monster is what is needed then I will be the stuff nightmares are made of. People, only rise to their best in a crisis. They will rise up against me, or with me. Either way, my goal is complete."
She didn't understand what he meant at all. She really believed that there was some hidden meaning behind his words, but he was not openly going to tell her what it was. That didn't mean she wouldn't ask though.
"I don't understand though... What do you mean your goal is complete? Why would people need a monster?" Now she was curious, if only to protect herself. She turned her body, angeling it towards him, the curiosity showing on her face. She didn't bother to hide it, she would probably get more out of him by showing an honest interest in what he was saying.

"Oh god, where to start." He said running his right hand through his hair. Clicking his tongue several times as he thought about how to put it.
"Well I guess I will use the example of the blind kid. His name was Connor and he was a likable enough guy from what I could tell. But he had this bad habit of jumping in to things that didn't concern him. Gang stuff mostly, I am sure a pretty little thing like you doesn't understand that though." He said with only a mildly sarcastic tone. After all she probably didn't know what he meant with gang activities, well at least not truly understanding. She had the looks of an easy life, uncared, still.... pure for a lack of better word.
"Well let me sidetrack for a moment, when you are a part of a gang. It is like a family, not even that, closer then your real family. It's what a family should be. You fight with them, bleed with them, and in some cases die for them." Again true enough, though Mathew had no intention of dying for anyone, fight for them yes, die for them? Not a chance.
"Anyways, this Connor kid was stirring up trouble for the gang, and myself. Constantly trying to stand up for everyone else, noble yes, but stupid if you are blind. He pissed off the wrong people, not to mention started throwing rocks at me. And we ended up taking care of the problem. Propped him up in the middle of Central Park. Remember being put on the cross isn't fatal, it isn't fun, but it isn't fatal. He lived, and a message was put out." Mathew said smugly leaving out the part about setting fire to the surrounding area. That part didn't need to be told.
"So you could choose to look at it as I was being a monster doing that to him, or I stopped countless kids from being injured by making a very public display out of him." He stated his case simply, but in his opinion effectively.
