~Earlier That Day~
Matrim had been wondering if Sara wanted to train for her Qi, or possibly even just have a rematch knowing now that he did not fool around when he said a fight was over. He remembered how quick she was to anger that day, and he could understand if she didn't want anything to do with him, but he still felt that there was a lot of good he could do for her. Perhaps sparring with her might help her unlock that energy inside of her, or at least get her prepared for when it does. Maybe she had questions about Qi, and he could always answer that. So he got a piece of paper and pen and wrote a note that morning in school.
Sara, an hour after school lets out meet me at the beach,
Matrim.
He snuck out of his class early, and put the note in her locker. He had remembered it well, and was getting used to the school. It was still a little strange. Still, he made his way to his next class wondering if she would show up or not.
~And now we join our hero....~
Matrim was not wearing a speedo or anything that revealing, he had been wearing surfer shorts and nothing else. Except of course for his eye patch. He wore that thing everywhere, literally. As he stepped out onto the beach, he felt the warmth of the sun, the sound of the waves, the feel of sand between his toes... which really got annoying after awhile.
Especially when the sun was heating up the sand a bit. So Matrim kept moving, making strange noises of pain until he got to sand that had been in a patch of shade, "Ahhhhh much better..." Matrim said, and then began looking around for Sara.

Sara stopped at her locker between classes. She walked lightly. Her foot, recently healed, still hurt to walk on. The halls were busy, and she tried to stick close to the wall as she made her way through the crowds. She took her time though. She was glad that her foot had finally healed. She had not been happy the last couple weeks wearing a cast, but she felt no anger towards the guy who had done it to her.
She was sad thinking about him. She had not seen him since that time and she wondered what was going on. What had happened that day had been extremely emotional for her. Her life had been turned around that day, and all thanks to him. She was kind of hurt that he hadn't stuck around. But she still had Travis, and that was nice. He had helped her get through the last few weeks, and she appreciated how easy he made this for her.
She finally reacher her locker, and spun the dial of her lock, popping it open. The first thing she noticed was the note. She plucked it from the locker, her eyes scanning it. Well. Speak of the devil.
Sara, an hour after school lets out meet me at the beach,
Matrim.
She threw her books into her locker, and closed the door, not bothering to take her things for her next class. She was going home to get ready, screw class.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An hour later, she locked the door to her house, leaving to go to the beach. She left her home, and made her way down the street. She wondered what to expect when she got there. She had decided on some shorts and a loose t-shirt over her bikini, and flip flops on her feet. She had no idea what he was planning, so she was ready for anything. She had a half hour to get to the beach if she wanted to make it on time. It should only take her 15 minutes, but she wanted to leave early just because of her foot.
She arrived at the beach with 5 minutes left. Her eyes scanned the water and sand looking for him. She spotted him over in a patch of shade. She felt the nervousness building in her as she started towards him. She had to admit, she was a little afraid he was going to try to kill her. But if he did, she would fight back, harder this time, even with her injured foot. This time, she would win.
"Hey! How are you?" She asked as she got closer, stopping a half dozen feet from him.
Matrim laughed a little as she approached, not making fun of her but more or less out of nervousness. He had injured her foot pretty badly the last time they spoke, and that was the main reason he had lost touch with her. Every time he saw her he would feel guilty, no matter what she had done to him it was only momentary, but what he did to her was physically brutal, not to mention the mental number he and Travis pulled on her. Hence, nervous laughter.
"Hey! How are you?"
"Good, good," Matrim said, looking around at the beach. There were plenty of people, but not overpopulated or anything, "Oh.. yeah the reason I asked you to come out here. I almost forgot."
Matrim turned his head towards her, "Is there anything you want to know about Qi? Anything in particular? And did you want to train to learn how to use it? Because I could probably do a decent job, I should be able to bring out your Qi without breaking any bones, but no promises."
He laughed at this, because he knew that while it was the truth, he imagined that she wouldn't want any more broken bones. Especially after what he had already done to her. Still he laughed, and it probably seemed kind of cruel to her. But the fact was they were in a great place to train, mostly because here they could train in the water and have fun with it. Besides, Matrim spent so much time in Alaska that he used every opportunity he could to get to the beach.
Sara smiled at him, giving him a small laugh of her own. She tried to make herself look like she didn't care. Like it didn't bother her to be around him. It didn't really. Not as much as she had thought it would at least. She was just embarrassed. She felt slightly awkward.
"Good, good,"
She smiled and nodded, telling him with a small "mhm" that she was happy to hear that. He looked around the beach, and she followed suit. There weren't as many people as she had thought there would be, but she was still relieved to see that there were people here.
"Oh.. yeah the reason I asked you to come out here. I almost forgot."
She considered what he asked her, smiling at his little joke about breaking bones. Her mind flashed back to their last fight, and she felt her ankle spasm in pain as she thought about what it had been like when he broke her ankle. Ya. She had lots of questions, but where to even start... She had so many questions about this Qi thing, and ya, she did want to spar with him, if only to train herself a little better. Her brutal loss to him was to much for her. Her ego killed because of it.
She turned to him, trying to figure out how to answer. Maybe she should just leave it simple and work from there. Ya, that sounded like a good idea.
"Ya, I'm interested in anything you can do for me..." She smiled. "And the one who'll have broken bones? Will be you next time." She laughed. This seemed funny to her. She was so overconfident in herself, and it always got her into shit. And it never stopped her.
"Oh?" Matrim said laughing along side her. She didn't have a clue, "I'll tell you something if you promise not to get mad, but I'll tell you more about that later."
Matrim started to head towards her, and sat down, crossing his legs. He motioned for her to sit down in front of him by extending his hand in front of him and then placing it back to his side. He stretched and yawned and tried to put off the conversation as much as possible, "The first thing you have to realize is that your Qi can be dangerous to others and yourself. Qi's can have side effects, and they can be very uncontrollable. So it's best if you train with me as opposed to others just in case it's something like that. So I will tell you everything about my Qi, because I wasn't giving you the full truth."
Matrim let out a sigh and continued, "Don't tell anyone else, because I use it as a combat advantage in fights if they don't know. It demoralizes them. So please, even if I'm fighting Travis, don't tell him my Qi, let him figure it out on his own. It doesn't just make me bulletproof. It makes me tougher then normal, and it can also block certain Qi abilities. Like if a person enhances their body with Qi, my armor shields me from their attacks. Or if there were a fire made of Qi, it wouldn't burn through my armor. Make sense?"
"So basically, chances are that your Qi won't work against mine. It may, and even if it doesn't there are always ways to use a Qi like that against me. But against me, we can be sure that your Qi won't have any unexpected consequences, make sense?"
He would let her digest the ton of bricks of information he just spouted out. Matrim could talk about himself for hours, he was strange like that, "So, before we begin training, would you like to know that little insy little fact that might just sorta make you slightly angry with me?"
He laughed, walking towards her and sitting down. He motioned for her to sit across from him. She considered for a second then closed the distance. She took of her flip flops, letting her toes sink into the sand. She loved the feeling on sand on her feet. She sighed and sat down across from him, wiggling in the sand until she was comfortable.
She listened closely to everything he said to her, trying to remember it all. It was actually pretty simple if you paid attention. That was an interesting fact about his Qi though. She remembered her previous thoughts about it actually being a bad thing, but this new information almost changed her opinion. As he spoke she found herself getting slightly excited. She was getting really curious now as to what her Qi might be. But did she even have one? Maybe she didn't... She have to ask him about that.
"...make sense?"
She took a second to consider, run through it all in her head again, then nodded. "Ya, I promise. I won't tell anyone." She smiled. She liked the sound of it being safer to do this with him. She and travis had talked, and tried, but they really weren't getting anywhere. So this would probably be a really good idea.
"So, before we begin training, would you like to know that little insy little fact that might just sorta make you slightly angry with me?"
"Guh... I guess so." She hated things that might make her mad. Usually because they were about some sort of fault she had or soemthing. She was always uncomfortable when people did this to her, but she guessed she needed to hear it. "But I have a question first. How do I even know I have a Qi? Is there a way to tell?"
"There is," Matrim said, "It's actually a very simple test really. Just take your fingers like this," Matrim said, extending his pointer and middle finger, "Press it against your neck here," He said, moving his finger to where his neck was, "And feel for a pulse. If there is one, it means yes. Congratulations you have a Qi."
Matrim laughed a little, "The way I was taught was everyone has a Qi, it just doesn't always present itself. Some people are lucky enough to never need it in their normal life. You know, what your life was like before you came here apparently."
Matrim then sighed and said, "I wasn't fighting you to the best of my ability in that hallway. I was holding back, a lot. If you wish to continue training with me at that strength, it may do better for both of us, I don't know. But if you are like me, and you want to fight me at full strength, I will," He said, and he then pointed at his eye patch, "I really do have two working eyes, twenty twenty vision and the works."
He'd wait for her answer. It wasn't really a trick question, because either she could fight him on a more even grounds, or she could fight him and see what he's like when he isn't holding back at all. The choice really was up to her. After all, she gave him quite a workout when he was wearing a patch. Then again, maybe she wouldn't want him to hold back on her. It all just depended on the person.
So she definitely had one. She breathed a sigh of relief. Well that was one problem down. Now she just needed to figure out what it was. She smiled. That was a big relief for her. She had been getting worried that there may not have been one. That she was just normal.
She listened to what he said next, trying to keep her face neutral. So he hadn't been fighting her at full power. That was... Amazing... She couldn't keep the awe off her face any longer. That was great! She wanted to ask him how strong he was, how strong he could become. She was completely awed by him, not angry. A little put out. But not angry. She felt inadequate. She remembered him saying that to bring out her Qi, she may need to seriously put her life on the line. She was ready for that. And with Matrim, she knew he would stop before he killed her. It might be on the absolute brink of death, as she could also trust him not to stop until then, but he would stop eventually.
She looked at him, her expression turned serious. "I want you to fight me at full power. I don't want you to go easy on me... Please..." She knew it would be tougher with her ankle still hurting, but why not? It would give her a chance to see what else was out there.
"Full power it is then," Matrim said, scratching at his eye patch, "Finally get to take this itchy thing off of me. It's been a pain today for some reason. But, what can you do?"
He took the eye patch off, feeling the surge of Qi energy, but could not use his Qi, "Huh, weird. Ok so I won't be at full power, but I can't help that," He shrugged and stood up, letting his eye adjust slowly. He looked out onto the water, "It looks so much better with depth perception, I'm glad I came out here for this......"
He turned towards her, and got into a fighting position. His right hand open, palm facing towards her extended slightly forward, his left fist clenched and drawn back at the hip, with his right foot forward, and left foot back, "Now then, are you ready?" He asked, waiting on her to prepare herself and possibly even make the first move if she wanted to.
"Full power it is then."
Sara watched him take off the eye patch. His faced turned confused for a second. She didn't quite know what he meant about not being able to use his Qi, but as long as he wasn't worried, then there would be no problem. She felt excitement surging through her at the thought of this fight. She was excited to see how strong he was, to finally have someone not hold back when fighting her. She was going to be beaten to a pulp... Damn...
"It looks so much better with depth perception, I'm glad I came out here for this......"
She turned her head, staring out into the water as well. It was a very nice view. She really didn't appreciate things like this enough. But she really didn't want to go on some philosophical mind trip right now, so she took one last mental photograph of the water as he pushed. She gave a small laugh as she wondered how bad she was going to be hurt, and when the next time she would see the water would be.
She turned back to him, watching him take his stance, and then she sighed, getting ready to push herself to her feet. She pushed herself onto her knees, and then brought her left foot up, setting on the ground, her right leg still kneeling on the ground. She leaned forward as though she was going to push herself up. Then she drove her right fist forward, aiming for a punch to his gut.
Matrim took the hit to the gut, tightening his abdomen as she did to brace for impact. He looked down and smiled, it smarted a little sure, but the fact was she still wasn't all that strong. He then said, a little bit of wind knocked out of him, "Been hitting the gym have we?" And then launched his left foot to her chest. Since she was leaning forward he would follow through with the kick in an attempt to kick her airborne. If this worked he would shoot his right palm up into her gut as she fell, his fingers in a claw like grasp.
Now if I spin her it'll be like she's pizza crust! Ah Ha Ha Ha Ha!
If he succeeded in this he would simply toss her further way from him. All of this assuming he succeeded in all of these attacks. Matrim was able to see a lot clearer, and he was plenty faster then she would expect him to be, that's for sure. The best part of this was also that he was able to see better this time. The girl seemed a lot cuter with depth perception. Matrim had to give Travis kudos that he was fast to get himself someone who is both good looking and a fighter.
Sara's fist connected with his gut, but it had hurt. He had hard abs. What a bitch. She pulled her hand away, her face scrunching in pain. That had probably hurt her more then it hurt him. She cursed, and was about to move away from him when he spoke. She instinctively looked up at him. Smart move Sara, smart move... His foot connected with her chest and she was pushed upwards with the force. As much as that had hurt, it was his clawed hand driving into her gut that hurt more.
The wind was knocked from her lungs and she was tossed. She landed on her back a few feet away. What the hell... She rolled onto her stomach, pushing herself onto all fours. Well that hadn't gone as planned. She looked over at him, watching his movements closely in case he tried to attack while she was down.
She gained her feet, arm across her stomach. He was strong. She doubted even that was his full potential. She would need to be quick. She ran towards him, arms outstretched, appearing as though she was going to tackle him. When she got close enough, she would drop onto her right side, left leg sweeping out to trip him.
She was charging again Something he saw as a predictable move of hers. He grinned and let out a small scoff at the idea of getting tackled by someone as small as her. Of course, she mixed it up a little, and Matrim nearly fell prey to her attack. It still hit, and it tripped him up, but he had seen her plan enough to form a counter attack. He managed to turn his back towards the sweep, so when he fell, he fell backwards, leaning towards his right so that he would be facing her. He put his right hand down on the sand, along with the outside of his right foot, and kicked with his left leg straight as high up towards his head as he could in an attempt to kick her in whatever body part that had been in his legs path.
Well she brought me down, that's for sure.....
Matrim would then do something rather painful. He would push off that right hand so that he was upright, his legs split apart. He would push both his hands down and bring both legs in, and stand up. He would just be standing straight up, hands down at his side, it was a time consuming task to do what he just did, and frankly it would be kind of exhausting. Not to mention he was pretty open to attack assuming she hadn't been kicked in a very important area or anything.
Sara was being careful, testing the waters. She was using attacks she knew and trusted in an attempt to test out her ankle and get a feel for what he was capable of. She finished the sweep with her leg, tucking it back in towards her body, finishing on her stomach. She then moved to push herself back up, pushing her hands into the sand and pushing against the ground. She was kind of surprised when her trip worked, and he dropped to the ground, facing her.
She stared at his face in front of her in shock. He didn't seem the least bit surprised. For some reason, he seemed knowing in his stare. Her face hardened. She had to admit though, from this close, without the eye patch, he was pretty cute. Even with the eye patch he was cute, but he was a good looking guy. She briefly thought of Travis and wondered if she should have told him she was coming here.
Then she pushed those thoughts from her mind. It really wasn't the time to be thinking like that. Then her arms, which she had been leaning on to support herself, were knocked out from under her. She fell flat onto the sand again, rolling onto her back in time to see him push himself to his feet from a very awkward split position. That had to hurt...
She threw her legs upward, somersaulting backwards with enough force that she landed on her two feet, crouched low. Her ankle spasmed in pain, and she hissed softly through her teeth. She stared at him, trying to judge what he was open for. She decided this time she wanted him to come to her. She pushed herself to her feet, standing straight up.
"Is that all? I thought you were going to go all out with me, not hold back at all. This is nothing. Common, gimme some credit."
A devilish grin made its way onto Matrim's face. She wanted the full all out no guts no glory Matrim? She would get it then. Of course, he would try to be at least a little careful with her. After all, she was going to grow into a strong fighter in time, he could tell. She had the determination and she had the guts. She was learning, and because of this, Matrim was willing to teach. And if he had fought someone stronger then him, he would say the exact same thing. Matrim had to know a persons full strength, he had to know exactly what it was he was up against. It's why he was glad he got to see Leon even more powerful then he was used to.
"Heh," Was all he would say before taking off at her full speed. He would run straight at her, and drive his right knee into her gut as hard as he could. If he accomplished in this, and if she lurched forward at all he would bend over and wrap his arms around her torso, gripping around her arms if it was at all possible so that she couldn't use them. He would then lift her up so that she would flip forward as he raised her up and stood, and for a moment her legs would be near his head, possible even on either shoulder. He would then throw her back down on the ground hard so that she would land on her back.
Why do all our fights end up looking dirty at one point or another?
