It was a new day. Vetis had made his way to Long Beach after 4 years of aimless wandering. Having just reunited with a former gang member he had a place to stay but not really much to call his own. This is what brought him to the mall this day. A Wretched wasteland of Art Nuevo and teenage angst. One side of the mall held the preppy area where a man could buy jeans of the plum smuggling variety. The other was for the dark emo souls who were just as exploited by trend as the counterparts they so hated. There were however a few other normal stores where the clothes fit and Vetis didnt have to worry about what effect their tightness would have on his future children.
Aside from buying clothing Vetis had the objective to buy some furniture to furnish his room. Having a bed and a place to call home was great but if he was going to stay there he would need that personal touch. Tsubame had come with him assist in getting things but he had at some point lost her to accomplish a different objective. Work. The man needed work. He would start here if only for appearance sake so that he could hide his darkness in plain sight.
As Vetis wandered around he for a brief moment had not watched where he was going and bumped into someone rather hard. Perhaps it was his fault, perhaps it was their fault. All he knew for certain was whatever they were drinking was now covering a previously brand new white t shirt, staining some new cargo pants and forget about coming off of the brand new suide steel toe boots he had just gotten. His hands slid in his pocket carefully as he pulled out a pair of gloves and slid them on. The black gloves covered all but his fingers with metal studs jutting over the knuckle area. Someone was certainly going to pay.

Clearly a misunderstanding. Innocence was bliss on an early morning in California, how she loved the feel of the blissful sun as it kissed her skin definitely preferring the feel of the Ocean breeze as it were. Compared to her old muggy life in Chicago this was heavenly and she showed it off as such as a daily occurrence sharing it with a bright smile. However not everyone appreciated the mannerisms in which she sported, for one Jess was rather a downer. Her sharp features showed a significant disgust to the portrayal Jayr sported on a daily basis; from the torn up jeans, the black Led Zeppelin shirt she wore, down to her very heels it was despicable.
"You are a strange person...."
A wide grin across the table sprouted cheerfully, "K'mon lets get you something less angst more pretty." Jayr flaunted her arms in a distracting manner no doubt attracting the attention of those finishing up in the food court with them.
Looking down at herself Jess found no problem with her own attire; nothing flowery or standoutish, and with the absence of her wheelchair and feet back in the action of things she was relatively normal. Of course Jayr didn't consider dark jeans, shirt and the bold pink converse with leather gloves normal.
"How about no."
*~*~*~*~*~*~* The quiet watchful gaze of hazel hues followed the mindless busy bodies pass throughout the large causeways. Considering an outsider's view Californian malls were intimidating. Large structured castles matched with shiny cascaded walls, it would make anyone else go blind, suffer a seizure, or even give out the bold signal: "GO AWAY". But of course advertisers didn't get paid for that, so the inclusion of sex and high esteem artists decorated the walls of the music store.
Tuned in or rather out to the music that resonated inside the boy's ears, Josh decided it was time to move on from this place. The decision wasn't made easily in fact he needed to be jabbed on a multitude of occasions and suffer an earful from a manager. That threatening stare was that which broke the camel's back.
A cautious grin and a nervous wave signified his departure, taking quick paced movements to ensure he didn't get dragged aside. And of course the added caution when he passed the detectors unsure he had gotten traces of the music purchase in his head from hearing the music.
A few meters down the hall and he'd start to calm down, paying attention to his surroundings. Of course the first thing to catch his sight were the miscellaneous security guards monitoring his path, but paranoia was just the start. Eying those mall cops' tazers is what really set him on the defensive.
"Hehe, how about yes."
The single voice threw off his thoughts for a moment, ducking to the side to angle his head across the causeways towards the dinning center. Jayr. Nerves tensed up suddenly, anxiously even and before he knew it he was mirroring their movements. *~*~*~*~*~*~* "How about no."
Jayr tensed up quickly with a slight pursing to her lips, the soft features intensifying as she attempted the puppy dog maneuver with an added tilt to her head. Though the effects seemingly didn't work well enough.
"Hehe, how about yes."
Jayr would say snapping up quickly as she snagged her drink and pursed her lips around it quickly making a sucking noise before laughing again. "Give it up, I'm your ride home so you're stuck with me."
She'd stick her tongue out hearing the slight grumble before skipping off merrily with Jess in tow right behind her a distressed look covering her features. The rag-tag group took flight towards the nearest store. Merrily dropping in upon a non-descriptive clothing store, no doubt low quality in Jayr's opinion there seemed to be a tussle about to break out. If not for that Jayr most certainly would have continued onward. Freezing with a perplexed look at a large man afixing his gloves on as he towered over a relatively smaller man. A slow gulp from the crowd appeared to be unanimous but Jayr seemed the only one not amused by the scenario.
Stepping forward from the onlookers she was nearly intercepted by Jess. "Dont'chu think..." Cut off by a hand to the face of her friend, the saliva from her parted mouth trailing on her hand but going unnoticed.
"Hey pick on someone your own size." Jayr would say loudly enough to the big man before looking herself up and down and realizing those words were fairly misused. "Er... well Someone who can fight back."
The boy who was about to be pummeled turned to look out of anxiety, partially from the big man and partially insulted saying a woman could fight his battles for him. "Hey I'm all for not fighting buuuut not about to be humiliated." The stranger would raise a fist to punch big man across the face unsure of the result just positive he wasn't going to be shielded by a girl.

For the love of all things holy or non.... he thought to himself. First new clothes ruined by an incompotent fool who at one point had the potential to just be on his way. Then his chances shattered as an angsty Hot Topic model called him out. Had only the mans cowardice won out he could have been "persuaded" to buy new clothing. Now as the two exchanged banter the man had actually had the balls to throw a punch not to be shown up.
A quick backhand with his left fist took care of that. The man flew back across the mall and threw the nearest American Eagle outlet. Four gashes dripping a crimson mist from his face as he faded to unconsciousness. Vetis cracked his neck as he faced this young upstart. The difference with her was slightly clearer, she was an actual fighter of sorts. He couldnt gauge her caliber on looks alone. However to call him out being the physicaly imposing beast that he was ment either a case of mental retardation or skill. In his expierence this was a skill case.
He slipped into his typical Muay Thai stance. Right foot was slightly in front of the left, both heels up. His fists came to his face and his elbows were tucked in close to his sides. She was standing approximately 5 feet from him at this point. The crowd of onlookers had gradually surronded them into a ring formation. To either side was a pillar helping support the upstairs floor. Many more made their way down the halls but only two were in this ring. Behind Vetis was a set of twisting stairs leading to the next floor. Behind the crowd on her side was the food court. He took in his surroundings as he formed a large grin across his face. It had been a while since he had a good fight he intended to savor every minute of this.

The imposing type. For Jess this was an easy scenario, big scary man with huge knuckles with the force to backhand a guy across the mall. Hands down this was a run for your life and live to fight another day type of thing.
"Jayr, lets think about this for a second."
Jess would watch as she tilted her head considering for a second, watching to where the body had fallen passed them all. She made a slight nod if not to herself than to someone off in the distance, she truly had no method to her decision purely reasoning to herself that she had to fight on against him. Jess could see this, the projected thoughts of attacks going on in her head spiraling on as she surveyed the terrace.
"I'm not going to back down Jess... So are you with me?" *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* *Thwack*
The sudden jarring noise tacking place across the causeways and Josh would crane his head up rapidly checking in to see if anyone had gotten hurt. But it would seem as though the danger would by virtue be coming to him. *Crack*
A sudden shock of exposure in the frame as Josh edged to the side looking upon the broken and battered body, primarily scarred about the face from a punch. A small whimper came from the man. What else was there to do here? Josh would rush quickly to his side hands patting him down listening for the heavy pronunciation of groans and sighs as he felt the extensiveness of his injuries.
No internal bleeding thankfully, however he'd be suffering from a concussion not to mention several broken bones. Josh turned to look at the parted crowd, his eyes lost on Jayr. The single nod, understanding from both their parts that this was about to get ugly.
"Someone hurry and call an Ambulance." Josh's voice would break from the scene slowly patting the man's hand closely with a defensive grip. He'd be sticking around, at least till he knew Jayr was safe. *~*~*~*~*~*~* Shocked, battered, afraid, all this things were true as her heart pounded. The stern pummeling of that rhythmic node in her chest simultaneous with the bouncing of the man's body. Then stop. Simple and quiet, her head gazing back towards the man on the ground. Luckily enough Josh was there. A good thing that he was too. She'd nod simply towards him, it wasn't a signal of damsel in distress that call for help and he knew that much from the look. Something more along the lines of: "Stick with the wounded, make sure everyone gets out safe" Sort of nod.
"Jayr, lets think about this for a second."
Without even shifting her gaze she could already assume that Jess had half a mind to stop her. This couldn't be taken lightly, Jayr needed this, not only to assert herself but she needed the simple fact that she was doing something right. You can't always hide in the dark.
"I'm not going to back down Jess... So are you with me?"
Her mind set on the boy quickly analyzing her surroundings. Thats it, she knew the right moves. Though his stance was something she'd seen before. Thats right, not exactly an offensive fighter it'd seem. Jayr would motion her features into a simple smile erecting her stance as to appear unconcerned with the actual fight. It was merely a tactic, risky under certain conditions, but she was confident.
"Alright...I'm in, but for the love of God take this seriously."
A stern cautioning face from Jess as she readied herself into a boxing stance. How their statures differed nominally. A small smirk, "Force isn't everything." His opposition seemed not to realize what she had just started. Surprisngly (though maybe it should not have been) she was not going to throw the first punch. However before he went full out it was probably best to test the waters and see exactly what he was dealing with. There would be no real point to go full out and tire himself out if he still intended to buy furniture today.
He breathed slowly keeping himself calm before the evnetual surge of adreniline this fight would bring. He didnt want to lose himself to the battle so early on. In this large crowd there may have been others ready to jump in but his concern and focus was squarely on her for the time being. Slowly he crept up to her trying to gauge her reactions to his approach. He would toss no less than six jabs her way. Right, Right Right, Left, Right, Left hoping to catch her with the rights but patterning it so that the lefts would be a surprise. After each punch his body had been programed through continous practice to come back to guard position so as not to leave his face open. He went full speed but not full force. Should at least 4 connect he would end his little combination with a right left right elbow jabbing sequence using the sharp points of his elbows cause signifigant damage.
However if less than 4 landed she would have to good a defense to let him leave himself open for even half a second. No if he landed any less than four punches he would brace and await whatever counter was coming in. Unfortunately until she started up he wouldnt really have a feel for her style and an attack could essentially come from anywhere. All he could hope for as a fighter was to take advantage of an opening when it presented itself.

Shield-Strike Attempt Jayr grinned silently, in tuned now with the other's in play yes she wasn't exactly a fair fighter in all honesty because she'd left out quite a few things to begin with. For one the multitude of elements that were left out, most notable the human element. Paying close mind that Josh had signaled for the ambulance the mall cops were bound to be on their way, not to mention the real cops. That bought them a few minutes, regardless unless the big man was capable of finishing this fight up in ten minutes or less she was bound to win. So the game for her was, stall for time and bide herself.
A slow nudge of her head downward, eyes spanned on the boy closely with a regal amount of focus as he charged forward. The distance itself being minuscule to say the least, much less than she'd in fact hoped for. But that meant nothing right now, rather she wanted to play the mental warfare.
The brutal charge forward would amount to no much more than a step or two, by now having the chance to balance himself. His weight gaged into strength, his speed tolerable at best seeing as he wasn't putting out full but that was just for starters. Right now she could only understand his strength superiority, his size spoke of fortitude but again that didn't come into play for her game plan.
Strike, the first blow launched towards her, not a flinch as a dark figure lurched in front of Jayr her arms wrapped in a shield formation to protect her from impact. Though the strength was great. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Pain, it was something immense she felt right now, the sudden fiery burns on the exterior of her arms feeling as though they could turn to rubber in a single instant. Thrust. Another pounding her back as Jess and Jayr by association behind her were pushed back a few inches with each punch. Two. Two was the start. And pain was everything now.
The thought of Jayr behind her in pain was more than she could imagine, though it was not the truth having saved her from annihilation at this point Jess was heroic, though she couldn't stand long. Not with the brush of blows at her front. Bang. Three. Three was enough to cry as her skin broke on her forearms seeping through to cry.
Four? Would there be a four? *Thrust* The lance would break through, a heated burst coming from under her right arm sneaking through the boy's defense. As he jabbed with his right there was no room for guard from a left strike, and too dodge would be disastrous to his positioning finding nothing but ledges at either side as they stood on a narrow bridge being pushed aback.
Jayr would peel out from under Jess throwing her aside behind her to a safe position as she gartered the thrust not using it merely as a lance but as a parrying blade. Thus if missed her follow-up would lace it across his gut. The lance gave her an exceeded extension to reach him and doubted on such narrow turf he'd be escaping. There was help for the girl it would appear. It would also appear she had a technique that he could not have easily accounted for as an object slashed his chest during his attack sequence. It hurt but it was nothing he couldnt live through. However it seemed that toying with the girl was not a mistake to make since she did have rats scurryin around to help her. No matter he already saw exactly how to end this when he had first took in his surroundings, it was just a matter of when and how.
However in a fight ones thoughts and actions are two different spans of time. In the time he had taken to think this his body was already reacting to the fight. His right foot aimed at her abdomen as he used his left to push foward adding power. The foward momentum would allo w for a follow up left knee in almost the same spot which would be a very brutal attack. Unfortunately there was at least one person behind her so the resulting collsion would most likely result in falling to the floor as oppose to a mere being pushed back. Should this have occured he would have lept on the oppurtunity. Quickly coming at her grabbing her foot and tossing her into the nearest sturdy structure one of the pillars he had earlier noticed. The left one was slightly closer so it was the obvious choice for this particular attack.

Strange Encounters of the 3rd kind. She was in pain, brutal excrushiating pain. Though it was only extending to her forearms as it were for that much she was thankful that the pig man hadn't sat on her or so much as went all out. Now a good five feet away from the conflict at the other end of the bridge Jess sat up in slight pain taking to looking at her wounds and sighing with a tight embrace.
"Why do I get myself into these things?"
A painful memory of back at high school when the lance had struck her. The pain was far worse than this, she couldn't move, she felt the air around her burn and her lungs die slowly. Pain everywhere. And then Jayr saved her, Jayr and that weird boy but that wasn't the point. She was indebted and wouldn't be stopping here. Moving slowly to a crouch Jess would take a step forward ready to go into the mouth of hell. *~*~*~*~*~*~* The prospect of winning struck her heart quickly as he was slashed, the force of the attack growing in power as it went onward. Jayr felt not just her power but the force of her foe join in unison to the battle. A grin parting its way on her face as she evened out her stance. Backing her right arm and leg back to defend while her right provided a meager shield against the tirading foe.
A right foot launched knocking her guard aside with ease and she began to realize the difference in their statues. Not giving up however, failure was one thing, to flee was entirely another. Feeling the force of the latter knock her back would send her sprawling to her back with nothing but feet to protect her onward. At her flank she was outmatched, out gunned but not outnumbered. For that much she was thankful. The foe descended upon her quickly reaching out to grab a foot before.
*Yoink*
Jayr felt Jess' weak grip snag at her wrists and pull her back a few inches just out of reach of the man who would now presumably be lower to the ground seeing as his ambitious attempts had been aiming to grab at her ankles. This was a turning point. *~*~*~*~*~*~* This was a strange providence, as it were chaos had emerged once again. Though not of her expectations, Alice had been expecting that alone to be her doing, for it to be one of her patsies to be stirring up some messes however it was entirely different. From within the cloak of numbers she hid well amongst the crowd of civilians watching as the large man struck out beating the poor red head. Her arms soiled with blood and battered blue to serious bruising it was tough to watch.
*Lunge*
The strike of two becoming one as tides were turned and the game became one of combating powers. An emanating smile and Alice would step closer, her slow motions not drawing much attention, at least none more than a rowdy kid working to get their rocks off to a brutal fight. In this city there were many of that alignment.
*Crash*
The force of bodies against the floor, Alice had chosen her side. She'd step forward into the fray her small body making not a hint of sound as she walked past the big man but close enough to touch. *Yoink*
The grim smile as her foot raised up kicking the big man right in the butt with enough strength in his current position to topple the man forward onto his face. Of course she was giving him a leg up in getting him closer to the girls, let alone the attack wasn't powerful but it employed a little thing called humiliation. If the assault was to follow through the crowd would emanate with laugher, chuckles, and gufahs. And Alice of course would simply walk off back into the crowd opposite her entry and leave. Landing face first as he missed his intended targer was one thing, but he was now actually a bit hurt and humiliated to say nothing of pissed. Her help was the problem, yea it was her help he thought to himself. Instead of going for her or even the aid he could visibly see he had a different plan. EVERYONE HAD TO FUCKING DIE!
Vetis had harmed, maimed, and killed people just for the pleasure before so this wasnt really out of character for him. He could get a job somewhere else, maybe a little dive bar somewhere bouncing out the trash. Furniture was probably expensive here, Ikea and the internet were a wonderful thing when used in unison. He walked over to the support that he had intended to slam his prey into. Placing his fingers on it he transmuted the mid section of the cement pillar into a battering ram that was easily 3 feet taller than him.
Typically if Vetis were to transmute something it would be a blunt weapon that wouldnt slow him down with its weight but that wast the idea this time. No this time he purposely took far more than he needed simply because it would take that much out of the support to make it unstable. Even hurt he wasnt badly damaged so the matter of lifting this cement battering ram and hurling it into the next pillar over wasnt impossible. With all his great strength and a slightly running start he hurled it into its sister structure.
As the two would collide it would cause enough damage to make the entire upper section of the floor above them unstable and it would lurch down. The people upstairs screaming and shouting as the floor underneath them gave way. Those underneath might have time to react if they realized what the hell was happening. Maybe he would crush her or one of her friends with the 2nd floor of the mall. Maybe she was tough enough to survive a little rubble falling on her (xin physics are great). Either way the chances of her getting through it all and over to him were well pretty slim. Amidst the twisted bodies of the dead and injured, the shopping bags all over the floors that were not going to make it home or the fact that the Gap was conviently located on the first floor now. Perhaps one of her rats was trapped and shed want to help. None of it really mattered to the man as he began to walk off..... he needed a new shirt, pants and boots...

Heroine She couldn't save them all, the thundering pound of the man's might against the pillar to crush them all in a tomb in a sense of the word, but in recollection he was dooming himself as well. Once the walls came down around them Jayr and her friends wouldn't be the only forces squandered but the man would also be thrown beneath the summit of the collapse regardless of his longevity it'd be a hampering force.
Jayr moved quickly anticipating the moment, her ass having been dragged to her feet quickly grabbed Jess by the wrist and tossed her, with all that added force she'd possessed from the lance's power she'd toss the girl off the side. A good eight foot drop not to mention the directional slant would result in Jess skimming her body up pretty bad, worse than the prior damage but at least she wasn't dead.
A quick dash and Jayr would rush over towards the people beneath the pillars, her hands spreading to engulf as many as she could manage withing her grasp.
"Quickly under the doorways!" She'd shout to those who could not stand within the field.
*Smash*
When the dust settled there'd be more to unearth than most would have anticipated.
*~*~*~*~*~*~* *Thud*
The crashing force had blacked her out for a moment, as the bleeding callouses that made up her arms for the moment seeped worse off. In the distance a small section off the mall would collapse upon itself.
*Smash*
"Jayr?" The words but a whisper as she chocked out the words seeing but a small lantern on the horizon. *~*~*~*~*~*~* Had to move, had to move swiftly. Timing was of course of the essence and Josh had seen what'd happened here. A twitch to his jaw muscles as he stood over the ruble of what was once the clothing section of the store, a dull throb in the side of his head reminding him to not give up.
The rumbling of scattered rocks parted evenly, and some not so evenly but he could hear their cries, their heavy breath. Everything was at stake.
"Thank God you're alive." Almost exclaimed in a whisper as the mountains of coughs emerged.
From the depths Jayr handed up a small child, person by person slowly gathering to be in the neighborhood of fifteen had survived the fall by stepping into the field of Jayr's Vulcan Shield. Drained her truly, but the sacrifice was well worth it. The conservation of life trumped all.
No sign of the big guy so she assumed, but that wasn't her concern any longer. "Keep digging. Is Jess?"
"Yes she's fine, battered and bruised is all."
"Good."
A small tear breaking through her unbreakable bravado before being wiped away and covered up with a determined gaze. And still Josh was amazed. Having been near the literal edge of destructions start, having expected what would happen to happen, and just the fact that Vetis is one quick thinking/moving guy he would get out of the way of most of the debris as it fell. Pushing aside the little bit that did land on him he found himself covered in blood, some of it his own most of it not. Three different broken people had landed on him along with some minor broken blocks of cement. Pushing the trash aside first was easy. The cement however was a little bit heavier and all though he wasnt in terrible shape the oppositions qi attack had done enough damage to make him bleed. Most however was from other people as a lake was starting to spread across the floor coming from underneath the rubble.
As he surveyed his carnage he did not see his true prey. He did feel a bit of satisfaction as it was literally good to be back to his old ways. After more careful observation something else had caught his eye. There was a girl on the floor who should not have been there. No she should have been buried along with the other garbage. She was wearing dark jeans and a dark shirt, mostly dust covered at this point. Her bright pink converse sneakers were all scuffed up and also rather dusty. This little rat was spared, or perhaps she wasnt. He was shocked but couldnt help to smile with the prospect of torturing her.
Yes this was a rat that got in the way. It was very tempting. He could easily go over and break her. Send a message if you would to his opponent. No she wasnt worth the trouble. He really couldnt stay here. Tearing off his right shirt sleeve he made a make shift bandanna and wrapped it around his mouth. It helped keep some of the debris out and also helped to conceal who he was had he run into any police on his way out. However he still had a few minutes head start to make his way out. There were wounded to tend to and the police had yet to arrive. As he escaped from the wreckage he had caused he couldnt help but think that this thorn had yet to be completely out of his side and they would meet again somewhere else.

Won't be the last time. Scrapped knees, scrapped palms they told the story of her day in a way that words could not. Hunkering down over the ruble Jayr had grown tired such a long day as the time went past, a few hours ago the mall had been fine and then suddenly the majority buried in rubble. A tired pant as she peeled past the third rock layer she'd been at all afternoon tirelessly pressing forward into the late afternoon.
"Miss, please would you take a rest? Our officers are on it."
A slow sigh and Jayr sat up, her weight nestled on her knees as she'd sigh. A lone hand would find its way up to her face parting her hair only to rest against her cheek. The contrast was significant the cold to heat as it welled up in her cheeks scraping torn skin against the smooth contours of her face.
"Alright."
She'd sigh again raising to stand with the help of a hand that she was familiar with. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* They'd been there for a few hours now, sitting back watching while Jayr was hard at work uncovering bodies. Dead or Alive a little sigh of hope came up. She'd been working all afternoon, atop the fight, atop the steady bouts of the day. Tireless she was. All the while the others simply sat there watching from the sidelines. And how it ate away at them inside.
"Think we should?"
"No. We'll only get in the way."
His head would lower slowly before picking himself up from the seat having ignored Jess' cold response and found his way to his feet managing to bring himself up the collapsed section beside Jayr. Hands in his pockets he'd look down at her unsure whether to pity her or not considering her hopeless disposition.
"Alright."
His hand would extend outwards and she'd take it to stand up. Eyes meeting for a moment before she looked down, like a mirror he'd respond the same opening his mouth slowly to suggest a means to leave but not sure if it would harm her rather than aid her conscious.
"Lets just get out of here." Jayr would sigh, her hand moving to part her hair again walking past Joshua with little effort impeding her grace.
Still Josh worried, it wasn't so much that he knew they'd see much like this again, but more on the present, that her woulds be them mental or physical would do far more damage than fists could.
