With the California sun shining bright Kiyoshi departed from his studio apartment with the plan of getting a better sense of his new home. Granted he had lived in this relative area before but that was long ago as far as he was concerned. Since he was only going to be scouting around, his wardrobe was simplistic, black denim shorts, boots, a white beater, and light blue button-up shirt that was left open and the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Without further delay, Kiyoshi made his way down the six stories to the parking lot to grab his motorcycle and begin his day out on the town.
To those who are familiar with the type of person that Kiyoshi is, it should come as no surprise that many of the other drivers on the roads of Long Beach were very displeased, to put it mildly, with the young Japanese man's antics on the roads. Weaving in and out and through traffic while well over the legal speed limit, blowing by the occasional light or sign, cutting people off, and all of that without a helmet... just his cyan-tinted sunglasses to keep the wind out of them. Of course while everyone around him was getting more and more agitated, Kiyoshi couldn't be happier... the thrill of the speed, the fresh Pacific ocean air, the general freedom of it all could not be topped. Alas his exploration would have to come to an end as he needed a breather of sorts as well as some nice sugary refreshment.
Kiyoshi parked himself on the boardwalk by a fairly large public beach and leaned against the bike, which was held stable by the kickstand. In one hand was a very large plastic cup filled with red sugary icy goodness most commonly known as a cherry slurpee and in the other hand was a gyro from a little stand he'd found along the boardwalk. Some good classic food and sugary deliciousness in hand with a bright shining sun and crisp water before him... what could be better? Obviously it was the hot Cali babes walking around in skimpy little bikinis. A small grin formed on Kiyoshi's face as he chewed a bite of his gyro...
... this place was going to be awesome.

Hot Bodies No doubt suffering to home sickness Jayr had given up her hopeful searches of a home more set inland. Those apartments she'd scoped out with the 'nice' neighbors that'd decisively dropped by were quickly passed up and she teetered back on the edge searching for a beach side condo. Of course money hadn't been the concern so much as location had been. We all had to grow up sometime, that was the vain of existence it seemed as Jayr quickly realized she couldn't afford the beach side estate and quickly proceeded to wheeling and dealing the market owners.
Time after time money was the deciding factor. She needed a job around here that would make bank but with the poor economy Jayr had her doubts. Reflecting back on this scenario Jayr realized just how lucky she was that the sea side Cafe's owners were so accommodating. She worked for them now part time, and was allowed to live on the beach, not a bad deal in the slightest. She was so very lucky.
Now she took a much needed day off, weekends were always good beach days especially when hot, the crowds were a pain at times but she'd survive it when a much needed tan and rest were provided. And who could pass up a day like this?
Sprawled out on the beach face down buried into a rainbow colored towel Jayr relaxed in her black bikini. School was stressful, people were hard to account for considering this place was a tad bit different than 774 was after all. Though everything played off with a certain silver lining. Her friends were still here aiding, a helpful hand here and there.
She'd purse her lips thoughtfully kicking her feet upwards to trail along her back then proceed to kick them playfully in the air like a kid without much concern. Wonder if its about time to take a dip?

After finishing his food, Kiyoshi slipped off his boots to make sure they didn't get any sand in them and placed them under his motorcycle. It was a perfect day to explore the beach a bit, granted the waves weren't really tall enough for his liking and the people swimming would get in his way if he was surfing but he didn't bring his board anyway. Regardless there was exploring to be done... both by foot and eye. With that plan in mind he set out to explore the beach and its occupants at a closer glance, which was pretty easy enough since most were wrapped up in their own affairs too much to notice one simple passerby. Whether or not he would interact with these people was also still much in the air, he was like an assassin... isolate the proper target and strike.
Eventually Kiyoshi spied a proper target, a younger women who couldn't be much older than him if she was, in a black bikini and by herself. Thus having picked out his target, the young Japanese student approach in much a casual manner with one hand resting in the pocket of his shorts while the other still held the now half-full cherry slurpee. Only one minor even feasible insecurity itched at the back of his mind... that being the fact that warmer weather would have him wearing clothes that revealed more scars and tattoos than he was used to, nothing huge. In New York the past etched into his skin had remained hidden for the most part, here... not so much. None of that delayed him from approaching the young lady, pausing a few short steps away, and making his presence known.
"Enjoying the weather today, Miss?"
Nothing to complicated or clever to start but Kiyoshi spoke without any fear. Despite the cliche and simple remark, the idea that the worst thing that could happen would be some girl on the beach telling him to get lost was no worry. In his time Kiyoshi had been privy to and subjected to much worse fates and ordeals than that.

Just dive in Too hot maybe. Jay thought to herself biting her lip slightly flushing it with a sudden rush of rouge. Her eyes veiled behind a thin layer the aviators presented giving her that small semblance of security from other onlookers. The childish thought of 'if I can't see you, you can't see me.' Though such didn't exactly apply as her head craned up to catch the approaching fellow all too quick to speak.
"Enjoying the weather today, Miss?"
A permeated grin as she requested an intellectual reply and not sound dumbed out by the sun though truly she felt lethargic considering the heavily beating rays. Her left hand would rise up to lower the sun glasses inches so that they'd linger at the edge of her nose and let her cerulean hues creep over. There was a significant difference considering the day was all but a musky layer of opaqueness before and now forced her to squint from the sun's rays.
"Yup." She'd say pleasantly kicking her feet a bit more to further her display of endearment.
She wasn't about to make full on conversation with such if that was the opener, sure she could consider it but where to start. One could always jump into current events, politics, school board policies considering his age but where to start? Since he engaged she weighed that she'd play this one aback.
Jayr would giggle lightly to herself flicking her head back so that the glasses fell back into place on the bridge of her nose and would toss over laying on the flat of her back to even out the progressive tan she was accumulating. The smooth grin turning into a fine line as she focused not to get burnt.

Simple enough response, though a simpleton would probably read a great deal into every little movement of his fine piece of ass young lady. Now Kiyoshi wasn't the smartest guy around, however his shortcomings mentally were academic, the sense of the streets was something burned deep into his mind. This meant that, unlike most muscleheads on Cali beaches who ran up to some pretty little thing with the idea of hooking up, this Japanese student had pretty much pegged himself as dead in the water in that respect. So why keep talking to her? Insight... since he had pigeon-holed her as a stereotypical tease as unfair as it might be. Hey... we all have our judgements and prejudices.
Regardless, Kiyoshi smiled with a casual nod at the answer to his question. He took a moment to look over the woman fully before turning his gaze back toward the ocean. Nothing wrong with appreciation. Anyway, Kiyoshi continued with a show of how truly tactful he could be... or not be.
"So... Miss, how many guys have you shot down today? ... five? six?"
Truly charming, no? Kiyoshi turned back toward her with a small clever sneer as he sipped on his drink after delivering a potentially offensive question rather politely. Now he may have been wrong about his chances and easily wrong about who she was as a person but it didn't stop him from marching his foot into his mouth. However, there was some insane logic at work. Either she would not see it as offensive or he would be remember as the offensive one because every straight man would dote on this girl with sweet nothings in hopes of the smallest chance. Either choice was fine with him... he was who he was.

Making an "Ass" out of "U" and "Me" Jayr had settled in her rolled over position shifting her hands upward to scatter her hair downwards around her shoulders so it'd fray normally and catch a few glimmers of sunlight themselves let alone allowing her to be a tad bit more comfortable. Her legs would coil upwards reducing the amount of space she took up on the peeled out towel and looking a lot more childish to some extent as she did so.
Eyes she could still feel wandering on her but as she gazed upwards to the sun catching the momentary blast of light and casting her gaze downward towards her stomach where she'd figure to find him altering the directional approach. She'd purse her lips observing the way he'd be taking to that slurpie. A tad bit creepy for her standards though it was hot out and a slurpie was probably the next best thing to lurking in an air conditioned room or sun-tanning by the beach.
"So... Miss, how many guys have you shot down today? ... five? six?"
No, not in the slightest bit charming. Kind of just sounded like some low esteem putting her on a pedestal talk, attempts at gartering attention.
She'd pull herself up slowly forming her legs beneath her rear to sit at a slouched extend before lowering her glasses again to take a quick look at him without the sun drastically effecting her vision.
"None thus far. Though I'm sure if you're insistent on it reaching that high I'm sure you could muster up your manliness and ask me about five or six times." Jayr would present in a straight face waiting for a reaction before she fell aback to her towel giggling loudly considering whether she herself took her reply as a joke or not.
I guess the world truly would never know.

Upon hearing the reply to his abrasive question, Kiyoshi spun quite deliberately to stare right back at this young woman through his own cyan-tinted sunglasses. There was the briefest of moments where his expression might have mocked some searing anger at the challenge of his manliness. However as quick as it came, it went only to be replaced by his own uproarious laughter. It didn't matter whether or not she was serious, offended, or joking... that was funny to him.
"Hahaha... nice. It this where I say something like, 'I'll show you a real man!'? Cause I'll have to pass on that."
Kiyoshi's laughter subsided and allowed a very brazen smirk to form across his features in the aftermath. It was difficult for him to not find that funny, unlike many teenagers, though few existed in this system, Kiyoshi was dead set in who he was as a person. Granted if we wanted to dig at that we could find the truth of the matter but that won't happen during a casual conversation on the beach. Slowly the Japanese student squatted down to put himself on a more face to face level with the mystery lady with whom he spoke. He took a very long stare as though he would somehow be able to gaze right through her and into the very depths of her soul and...
"Want some?"
... he offered a bit of the still just over a third full Slurpee.

That was fast. Jayr smiled soothed and residing back into her nitch of a relaxing hovel settling to lay at the flat of her back hearing the guy's laughter not understanding nor especially caring about its' value. Was he offended? She supposed so at first considering most guys she'd interacted with were more often than not built off of a very pride based reputation all about fighting and physical prowess rather than what really got girls like her.
"Hahaha... nice. It this where I say something like, 'I'll show you a real man!'? Cause I'll have to pass on that."
Jayr managed to visibly show more of that smile of hers so that he could better see it, her hand noticeably rising to visor her eyes from the sun resting the length of her index finger across her brow. His response seemed only to validate the assumption that he was upset and was merely protesting as a means to look better overall initially failing in the wider scheme.
"Best that way." Jayr would reply simply and confidently feeling unstung by his response only to not that now he was bordering upon eye level making it harder to just screen him out and go on about that day but her caution hadn't been set off just yet so somewhere there was hesitation to clobber him.
"Want some?"
Jayr turned with an off guard expression something caught between surprise and the former stubborn bitch look trying to tell him off but in the same light she couldn't help but laugh breaking the stern face and bawling lightly before covering her lips with a hand trying to better compose herself and breath.
"God more than anything." She'd say through small laughs as she rolled over to her side and scooching aback to make room on the towel before patting it near the end signifying he was welcome to join but at a distance. "I'm Jayr." She'd erect a hand outward past her chest and seeing as she was leaning on her right side it was her left hand greeting him, abnormal but it was the gesture more than the traditional schemes that mattered.

A slight pleased expression came across Kiyoshi's face upon seeing her reaction to his latest question. He could cut a great many things, including tension... at least partially. It really didn't even matter if she even wanted some or not as the mere offer of the Slurpee had achieved what its intention. Who knew a Slurpee could break Ice? Anyway, at the offer of a place to sit and a gracious handshake, Kiyoshi excepted politely albeit less graciously. He sat by merely shifting his weight to the side from his squatted position until his body weight brought him down with a slight thump and a groan of effort much like an old man might offer.
"Kiyoshi."
The Japanese student introduced himself while reaching out with his own left hand to accept the offered handshake. It wasn't hard to notice the burn of her hand but he made no indication about it. He had his own scars, too numerous to count and all over his body with some covered by the many tattoos, so it wasn't an uncommon occurrence in his life or the school system, which she was likely a part of at one point. Regardless seeing as it was a burn and there were no other visible marks on her it seemed better it go unmentioned for now. Now, not forgetting his offer, Kiyoshi extended his other hand out to give Jayr the Slurpee while asking yet another question.
"So, how long have you lived in Long Beach?"
Now there were several motives for asking. One was, of course, to find out more about Jayr and the other was to see how much he might find out about Long Beach. He lived in the area some five or so years ago but there was no telling how much it had changed since then and it wasn't as though he was allowed to explore when he did live here.

Long enough to know. "Kiyoshi."
Jayr returned a pleasant smile managing to get past the sun passed down lethargy and pull herself to a sitting position her hands sliding behind her frame to hoist herself up without much noise rather putting an effort into making it visibly appear lazy. Once fully upwards she'd toss her hair over her left shoulder and stretch out her arms in an eager grabbing motion pulling the slushy towards her and peeling free the cap to sip at the edge. Her lips curling at the edge to somewhat gorge on more than her fair share but then again it was after all amazingly hot outside and she chose the favoring of the two options. Die of heatstroke or snarf some of this kind boy's slushy.
"So, how long have you lived in Long Beach?"
Jayr would flinch back her hands nearly dropping the slushy as her hands buckled back to her forehead a squinted face pertruding a sense of pain. Teeth would buckle down and she'd show herself to be in a lot of pain.
"Sorry Brain freeze." Jayr would take a second handing him back the slushy awkwardly as her facial features returned to normal and she'd lick her lips to make sure they weren't oddly colored however would take on the color of the slushy themselves as she spoke. "Not long, only been here for about four weeks. You?"

Kiyoshi chuckled lightly as Jayr fidgeted after encounter the horrid beast known as brain freeze. Someone had once said that Kiyoshi was not capable of getting brain freeze because there was no brain to freeze. Truth was he just had a very high tolerance for hot and cold, especially cold. Anyway he took back the frozen concoction and took a sip himself as Jayr fought off the brain freeze to answer his question.
It was not what the Japanese student had expected, to say the least. The odds of running into a new arrival to the city had to be very remote but still he had managed to due it, not to take all credit as Jayr had managed the same feat. So there was the issue that he probably wouldn't be able to get much about this city out of her seeing as it had only been a short time but there was still more to talk about it, including answering the reversed question that was directed to him.
"Not even a week... just moved back here from New York."
The answer probably let out more than it needed to, informing her that he was new but had lived here previously and that he had moved from New York. However all of that information was not something he needed to hide, it was pretty insignificant stuff. Kiyoshi shifted his position slightly, extending one leg out to the side away from Jayr while the other was tucked underneath him as he ever-so-slightly tilted his head to the left. His face bore an obvious look of curiosity.
"What brought you here then? School? Family? Dream of becoming an actress?"
Those were the most likely answers in the young Akechi's mind. Obviously there were schools in the area, both high school and college, her family may have decided to move here and she joined them, or the possibility of acting. Many young attractive women in the greater Los Angeles area were trying to become actresses, equally possible that Jayr was one of them as the chance she wasn't.

The Potential Stalker. "Not even a week... just moved back here from New York."
So she wasn't the only one a bit out of place, it felt a bit refreshing even if that realization was a bit selfish on her part. Though it wasn't like he didn't think the same thing deep down. Everyone wanted to feel as though they belonged she was sure of just that match it was just a matter of balancing that comfort for everyone. She'd smile faintly recovered from the slushy's dastardly assault against her brain now knowing better than to sip from the cup. Or at least as fast as before.
"What brought you here then? School? Family? Dream of becoming an actress?"
"What're you stalking me?" Jayr would say not taking herself seriously though her tone enforcing that it was a serious question then a quick laugh to only give way to her true intentions.
She did want to become an actress. A long time dream from when she was a kid watching the people in the movies with their bright smiles and exciting lives it all seemed so out of reach and yet. IT changed nothing because when she was little she enrolled in several modeling and acting deals. Chances are if you watched she'd be that girl in the Oscar Mayer Weiner commercials singing the song. Though she couldn't remember. Memories like that were simply too far gone to have lasting impressions. If she had just stuck with it.
"I'm here for multiple reasons, all of which I'm sort of scatterbrained about." Again yet another chuckle before sighing and letting her right hand trail through her hair. An absent minded gaze wavering over towards the waves as she did so.

When accused by the initial reply to his innocuous question, Kiyoshi stared back blankly with a raised eyebrow. Stalker? Did he really come off that creepily? Needless to say that he maintained his WTF expression while trying to figure out if Jayr was really that serious about it, or that paranoid. However when she started to laugh, he couldn't help but as she had truly fooled him with that question.
"Nice one."
It wasn't hard to admit, seeing as she had him completely off kilter with that. Kiyoshi nodded with the admission as a reinforcement of this comment before regaining the conversational balance he'd lost. As Jayr's true answer followed, the newer transfer gave a thoughtful nod to the answer though there wasn't much to think on other than the fact that she really didn't feel like revealing much about the subject. That was understandable considering how she didn't know much about Kiyoshi and as much of a joke her initial comment may have been there were a lot of crazies in the world and it was hard to be too careful.
"That's understandable. A lot process sometimes."
Really, Kiyoshi was being friendly with his little chip-in of a comment. He had his goal completely focused on, everything he did was based of that ideal. Whether or not she was honest in the previous answer didn't matter, either he was being friendly or being unknowingly deceived but still friendly. Circuitous rationalizations aside, Kiyoshi let the moment sit while staring at the ocean as well. He would have to get out on the waves soon...

What's in a Lie? A lie it was perhaps, though she had every reason to do so, insecurities, cautionary advantages she needed to have played out. Was she in all means that distrusting of people? Jayr sighed loudly letting the guilt get to her momentarily, she hated doing this to people she really did. Then again it was a weight. Sticking to the choices she decided on making, trust none and fight to your goals alone and perhaps see them succeed or risk them by sharing them openly, failure to be foiled. It was a heavy debate within her, something she truly did fear.
Looking out over the ocean briefly Jayr slowly began to realize that she wasn't that person, oddly enough silence had been her resolution, the answers locked away somewhere deep down. Though she didn't know Kiyoshi nor could expect to put pressure on him, she could always hope that in the interest of trust or mutual understanding they could see eye to eye. Maybe grow from there. That was friendship in her eyes, the daring garnish of yourself into the arms of another fearful of the fall but hopeful of the flight.
"Well truth be told I do have something in mind." Jayr smiled keeping her vision downwind towards the sea before scoping back towards Kiyoshi a fire in her eyes of that feral ambition that seethed deep. "I want to help people." She'd speak out once truthfully, "But I know its naive to suggest that considering people need to help themselves. But I think I can help with that."
Jayr would smile slowly moving her hands to support her weight behind her pushing upwards off her palms to come to a stand. Her hands patting down her butt to knock off the small particles of sand before opening a hand outwards to help him up if he so wanted to join her.
"You don't happen to go to school here do you?"

As said as it might be to say at this juncture, while Jayr battled herself Kiyoshi was only thinking about riding the waves. Lost in that blissful thought meant that whatever her choice might be in her conflict that little impact on him. To put it simply, he would understand mostly because he was not a very trusting person with any of the intimate details of his life. He had only truly trusted four people in his life, two had died and the other more recent two had gone missing long ago.
Despite that happy dream world of a surfer's mind, Kiyoshi came back when Jayr began to speak again and change her answer. It wasn't hard to notice the surprise and slight shock on his face when she expressed her desire to help people. Given the circumstances of the school system and just people's inert desire to look only for themselves and those closest to them, naive was an understatement. However the look in her eyes spoke volumes about her, only select people had shown that kind of fire to Kiyoshi, Auroth being the last. A gang leader hell bent on changing the landscape of 552 and New York city, and man who had saved Kiyoshi's life when there was no reason to and taken him under his wing as a student. Kiyoshi smiled and nodded lightly to Jayr as the thought came.
Kiyoshi politely took the offer hand as he slowly got to his foot to join her. He glanced sidelong at her while dusting himself off with one hand, answering her question in the process.
"Yeah... PHS 259."
With himself clean, Kiyoshi took another sip of his dwindling drink before throwing his arm over Jayr's shoulder in a very playful and childish manner. He grinned widely as he spoke.
"Jayr... I know that you are going to help a lot of people. I see it. They'll all be thanking you for your kindness and generosity."
Then, just as quickly as the arm had been placed, it was reacted and though Kiyoshi's words could have been seen as taunting the tone of sincerity in his voice would assure anyone that he was serious. He had been the recipient of help like that in the past and would not be alive without it, thus knowing its value.
