Umbrellas and newspapers covered the head of the many citizens of the city as they hurried to their shelter like a bunch of frightened little mice. The forecast for the night had been clear with mid to warm temperatures, but every once in awhile the weather man is wrong. Tonight it was fairly cold and the dark clouds that covered the night sky sent rain pouring down on the unsuspecting people below. Lighting and thunder rumbled through the ominous clouds as people could be heard complaining about the terrible forecast and how the weather man should be fired for this. Though they may have had a reason to complain, it wasn't like it was going to be the end of the world. They would survive to live another day, though some may catch a cold from the combination of the temperature and their wet bodies. Away from the stormy weather outside, however, people sat in the dimly lit room of a small coffee bar enjoying the warm and delectable liquid. Inside of this place people seemed to forget about their worries as they talked about their lives with complete strangers and enjoyed the live music that was being played. Most people simply sat at the bar and chatted as they either waited for or drank their coffee, but there were a few lucky souls that actually went and sat next to the stage to witness and young talent in the flesh. Percy had been working at the coffee bar ever since he had made Long Beach his new home, and since he got paid to do nothing but play music he loved taking time from his life to go to work. Tonight had been a very busy one because of the storm, since most people simply entered the building to escape the rain but they were basically mesmerized by the mixture of the intoxicating aroma and the beautiful music that was being played within its walls. Percy played classical music for the small crowd that sat scattered around the tables and chairs that were closest to the stage. He could see that his melodies touched the hearts of some people, watching as couples leaned in next to each other and once bickering friends now simply sat their and relaxed as they listened to the music. If he could change even one person's life with music or art he was satisfied, and so the night was truly turning out to be one that he would not soon forget. As his latest song came to an end, a number of people in the bar actually started to clap for him, something that he had yet to experience while working, and so it made him smile a bit as he thought of what next to play. As he went over the extensive list of classical songs he had in his head, he could hear some murmuring within the crowd that was now watching him. Finally, a single female voice broke out from the crowd. "Why don't you sing for us?"Percy's eyes would shoot to the crowd, unable to pin point who had mentioned that he should sing for them. He wasn't getting paid to sing, just play calming background music for the people that wanted a place to just relax and enjoy their coffee. He wasn't sure how his boss would feel about it, but it didn't take long for the crowd to start whistling and cheering him on. They wanted to hear him sing, even though they didn't even know whether he could or not, and so without getting the okay from his boss he started playing the first thing that came to mind. As his fingers slowly pushed away at the ivories of the piano, he would look around the room before letting out a quick breath. "This song is called 'Just the Way You Are', by Bruno Mars."After letting them all know the song that he was playing, he would begin to play with more intensity, as he didn't have any other instruments to back him up like the real song did. This wouldn't be much of a problem for Percy though, as he could easily work with a song on the spot and make it his own. Oh her eyes, her eyes Make the stars look like they're not shining Her hair, her hair Falls perfectly without her trying
She's so beautiful And I tell her every day
Yeah I know, I know When I compliment her She wont believe me And its so, its so Sad to think she don't see what I see
But every time she asks me do I look okay I say
When I see your face There's not a thing that I would change Cause you're amazing Just the way you are And when you smile, The whole world stops and stares for awhile Cause girl you're amazing Just the way you are
Yeaaaaah
Her nails, her nails I could kiss them all day if she'd let me Her laugh, her laugh She hates but I think its so sexy
She's so beautiful And I tell her every day
Oh you know, you know, you know Id never ask you to change If perfect is what you're searching for Then just stay the same
So don't even bother asking If you look okay You know I say
When I see your face There's not a thing that I would change Cause you're amazing Just the way you are And when you smile, The whole world stops and stares for awhile Cause girl you're amazing Just the way you are
The way you are The way you are Girl you're amazing Just the way you are At this time Percy would slow down the melody, adding his own little piano solo into the song, which seemed to get people in the audience going. Not only was he able to make the song his own, but he could even add a new part to it that made it sound even better than the original. A slight grin would appear on his face, if only for a few moments, as he took in all of the satisfied faces within the crowd and continued on with the song. When I see your face There's not a thing that I would change Cause you're amazing Just the way you are And when you smile, The whole world stops and stares for awhile Cause girl you're amazing Just the way you are
Yeaaaah As he finished the song, nearly all of the people in the bar started to clap and whistle, and so Percy couldn't help but get up from his chair and take a slightly awkward bow. He had never taken a bow before, and a part of him didn't even want to do it, but he felt like it was the right thing to do in his situation. As they continued to applaud his performance, he noticed that it was past the end of his shift, and so he made his way off of the stage and over to the coffee bar. He was wearing the usual outfit he wore to work nearly every day, as well as his baggy white beanie, and as soon as he reached the bar they had his drink ready for him. "One peppermint cocoa latte, just for you Percy. And you were great tonight. You should sing more often.""Thanks Leesa, and we'll have to see how the boss feels about my little show."They would both laugh a little bit at his comment about their boss, since he could be a hothead, but they knew he couldn't complain if the customers enjoyed it. So he would relax after a night of music, laughter and applause, drinking his custom latte and letting the speakers pump out cheap versions of the classical music he made his own.

Just the way. October days. Interestingly enough California had some strange weather ailments, broken up between summer and spring and while it was nearing the winter time things were looking like spring showers. Jayr had always been the type however for sun forever though the rain wasn't something that got her down. Shrugging it off she'd show up to work just a tad early breaking free from the overcast clouds lurking overhead. A downtrodden expression however riding on her face as she tended to take on the emotions of the weather themselves. Lord fear her if a thunderstorm broke out.
"Right on time of course."
"Course Nessa. I do have a sea side villa to keep paid for." Jayr would laugh with a tad bit of it forced receiving a genuine one from her landowner who also held stock in this sea side cafe. Despite not having a bad deal she missed the opportunities when her parents could simply support her. But then again she hadn't told them that she'd needed any help and of course Alexi would help cover it up regardless to give Jayr a chance at surviving mother's wrath.
Jayr would walk by the kitchen and settle into the back room and slide into some black slacks and a black tee-shirt fixing the little pin badge over her chest as she went angling it closer to her shoulder than normal feeling a bit self conscious due to the weather. She'd slowly stride out and grab a large disk shaped platter and slide it under her arm managing not to drop it as she slid the white apron with pockets around the front of her waist.
"Jayr table #3."
"I'm on it." Jayr would mumble with a pen stuck between her lips making the sound more like, "Mmm Uhm Et."
All the while preparing Jayr tapped her foot to the rhythm of the song on stage, whoever Nessa drafted for the position let alone the song was very good. A small smile on her face as she continued stepping out onto the floor.
But she'd make it there in due time looking very composed despite the last adjustment measure of tying her hair up over her head fixing it in place not to come off as entirely sloppy, give this place a good reputation and maybe Nessa would give a good salary atop rent.
"Hi there, what can I help you with?"

Percy sat at his table alone, looking out the window at all of the people that passed by in the pouring rain and wondering why they wouldn't just take a few minutes out of their busy schedules to enter the cafe and grab either a bite to eat or a hot coffee to keep their bodies warm. He sipped on his piping hot latte as he saw a group of people get splashed by some water from the street, being sprayed at them as a car went flying by. From their expressions and reading their lips, he could tell that they were far from happy about it, but he simply saw it as something that they deserved for walking around in such a downpour.
His attention would quickly be pulled away from the window, however, as he heard a group of guys from a nearby table talking about some female worker that was making her way around the cafe. Their description of her was enough to get Percy's attention, and so he would look over at them, trying to get a feel for where they were looking.
"Damn, I hope she's our waitress tonight. That girl should be modeling instead of working in some shit hole like this. I mean, the food and drinks are good and everything, but come on. The only reason its busy is because of the weather."
Percy couldn't help but get slightly aggravated at what the guys at said about his work place, as he saw it as one of the better little cafes in the city, but he wasn't one to let his feelings get the best of him. He usually made good decisions in life, and fighting those guys over something like that was just not worth it. Not to mention it was his place of work, and if he beat up some customers he would surely get fired. But those guys weren't even what he was interested in. He had finally found the girl that they had been talking about, and he couldn't help but agree with them.
She was tall and slender, with nearly perfect features when it came to what people wanted in a model. Her smile was mesmerizing, or at least that was how Percy thought others would think about it. He saw it as just a nice smile, which was something that so many other people tried so hard to have but usually failed miserably. This girl didn't even have to try, as she slowly made her way through the cafe in the direction of the rude young men and himself. He was sure that she would go to their table, since they were well dressed and good looking, meaning that they would probably leave her a hefty tip. The fact that they were easy on a woman's eyes only added to this.
Percy simply went back to drinking his latte as he turned to look back out the window, believing that she wouldn't even bother going to a table with one young male who was dressed like a would be artist. A few lightning strikes lit up the sky, as thunder shook the air around everyone. Percy enjoyed storms for a number of reasons, some were because they covered any noises he made during a contract, but the main reason was because of how soothing they were to him. The sound of rain against the window and the occasional thunder clap had helped him fall asleep on more than one occasion, but tonight they just worked to help him escape the thoughts and memories that were currently rushing around in his mind.
As he was in a slight trance from the rain that was pouring against the window of the cafe, he could hear somebody getting close to him. He wouldn't turn to them, as he was sure they would simply pass by like everyone else, but upon hearing a question that was obviously directed at him he would slowly turn to see who it was. He was taking a drink of his latte when he noticed who it was, immediately swallowed the hot liquid a bit too fast and burning his throat a little bit in the process. It was the waitress that the other guys had been talking about, and he would take a look in their direction quick to find that they were obviously upset that she had gone to his table instead. She had asked him what he wanted, and so he took another drink of his latte as he looked at her name-tag before responding to her.
"Um... I'm fine, Jayr."
The guys at the other table heard this and laughed, believing that they would be next in line to get their shot at the attractive young waitress. Percy would take another sip of his latte before look up at her, his steel blue eyes meeting her own.
"I just got off work, actually. My name's Percy. I'm the pianist that Nessa just hired. Don't have a name-tag, so I guess its only fair I give you my name since I can see yours."
He would smile at her, mixing the cream on the top of his latte into the rest of the drink with his straw.
"Why don't you order yourself something and I'll pay for it? Not sure when you're break is, but since we're working together we might as well-"
Percy would be interrupted as the group of well dressed men started yelling at Jayr for service. He would shake his head with a disappointed little grin before waving her over to their direction.
"Sorry, I'm holding you from your job. It was a stupid idea anyway. It was nice meeting you though Jayr."
He would turn back to the window, walking the idiots that ran around in the rain again. He didn't understand why he even tried to compete with others for someones attention, even if his intentions were far different than most other guys that would try to talk to her. He had always lived in the shadows, and even though he was trying to change that he always had the nagging thought that he would never be able to live a slightly normal life.

Clap of Thunder Jayr would sigh with relief and slight anxiety at the fact that she'd pinned back her hair however the sudden blast of thunder from outside taking its sudden booming noise filled her with slight unease. Don't get her wrong she was all about Thunderstorms however she feared her 'electrified' attitude could chase customers away and make a bad impression on her boss.
Furthermore she rested her weight on her hip before sliding the metal tray from under her arm grabbing with it the small notepad from the front of the apron gesturing to slide it atop the plater and heft it over her shoulder with a slightly outstretched arm. Still awaiting the return of the musician's order Jayr pleasantly mused to herself letting her left hand trail up to her hair and twirl a slight curl to the side before his slow turn was upon her. A quick cringe as she drew forth the pen from her apron at the ready and fully focused.
"Um... I'm fine, Jayr."
A quick burst of laughter from behind her and Jayr would go red embarrassed that they were laughing at her waiting expression, she would sigh lightly but still showing an exterior of somewhat calm. "Oh, Okay. Well I'll be back around in a few if ya' need me."
Jayr would begin to turn slowly her eyes dashing towards the next table feeling a stressed out sense of OCD kick in trying to order all the tables and manage which of them to go to first and figuring this order she could get through them all, before....
"I just got off work, actually. My name's Percy. I'm the pianist that Nessa just hired. Don't have a name-tag, so I guess its only fair I give you my name since I can see yours."
Jayr would turn about quickly turning her semi-turn into a slight unconscious sway as though she wasn't already proceeding ahead as she truly was back to fully focus. As for him there was a smile, well that was nice. "Well then its a pleasure to meet you Percy." Jayr would point to her name tag again with a slight giggle as if not to intend being awkward and repeat her name after he already knew it. "Of course fair is fair." She'd joke back managing a wink before turning again this time following through with it hoping the action illicited a bit of mystery to her otherwise very shy offset.
"Why don't you order yourself something and I'll pay for it? Not sure when you're break is, but since we're working together we might as well-"
Jayr would stop momentarily, her front already angled towards the hoard of preppy boys looking to be the type you'd find around sports bars as opposed to beach side resorts, then again everybody had their escapes. She'd angle her hips so that she could lean to the side cocking her head back to smile at him. "As much as I'd love to I'm not in the prospect of being in anyone's debt all too soon, thank you anyways Percy."
"Sorry, I'm holding you from your job. It was a stupid idea anyway. It was nice meeting you though Jayr."
Jayr would smile turning back towards his table and settle the metal dish under her arm again and proceed to walk back to his table and lean over the side with an effortless grin, falling far enough at the way side to rest her elbows on the table's edge. "Not stupid, just inconvenient. " Jayr would laugh again turning upwards and returning to the group of boy's that'd now been otherwise silenced trying to overhear what she'd said to him.
"Alright boy's what can I get you?" The upbeat personality still present on her being. That'd die down hopefully here this afternoon but knowing Jayr that was unlikely.
(ooc: I assume you'll be rping the npc rowdy boys? XD)

Just as he had thought, it was a waste of time to try and relate to someone on any real level, especially someone of Jayr's caliber. She had misinterpreted his offer to buy her something, believing that he would hold it over her and expect something in return from him, but how could he blame her? He figured that she had been led into traps like that in the past, having a supposedly nice guy just getting her something and then wanting a little something something in return later on. Percy wasn't that kind of guy, but it didn't matter at that point. She was in too big of a hurry to make time for some sort of conversation, and even if she did it wouldn't be with him. He was just a distant co-worker, and like everyone else he worked with she would not go any further than that.
She had told him that it wasn't stupid for him to want to get to know her, but he knew how waitresses worked. They had to be friendly and relatible, chatting with with the people that she waited on in order to gain a bigger tip when they left. Women were quite good at getting to a man and making them give a higher tip than they usually would, but Percy wasn't the kind of person to be swayed by the opposite sex. She would move on to something that was actually worth her time, meaning the group of well dressed young men that were obviously going to be more her speed. Percy would close his eyes and sighed as Jayr turned around to see what they wanted, knowing that he was wasting his time sitting alone at his place of work.
Each of the three young men would look her up and down in their own way, not caring that she could see their wandering eyes, before one of them decided to start the ordering.
"Well, Jayr is it? Can we get a pitcher of Budweiser and three glasses to start out? And I think we decided on cheeseburgers, or am I wrong?"
"Naw man, that's what I wanted."
"Yep, me too."
"Okay than. That's what we'll have, and if you wouldn't mind I'd love to get your number if you want to hang out after you're done with work. I've got a party going on at my house tonight, and it'd be great if you graced us with your presence."
His two friends would laugh under their breathe as he smooth talked to Jayr, expecting to win her over like he had surely done many times before. Percy didn't understand how so many women fell prey to men like him, not seeing that he was only out to get some sort of action for the night and probably not call her again. But then again, for all he knew the two of them could be destined to be together and get married. Life was always full of surprises, or at least that's what Victoria always told him. He listened to her, but he never truly took her words to heart. to Percy, everything that happened around him was in one way or another predictable. He was almost sure that those three would get what they wanted, and he would once again spend a night alone.
"But if we could get that pitcher first that would be great. My friend likes to jump the gun. We've got plenty of time to get your number."
Another little laugh was shared between the friends, which caused Percy to get a disgusted look on his face, though he was looking away so no one would see. He wasn't going to sit there and listen as the three of them just treated Jayr like another conquest, but he wasn't going to get in their way either. Instead he would simply get up from his table and make his way over to the exit, bumping into a new arrival and stealing his cigarettes before walking out the door and standing outside. He would lean against the window to the cafe, keeping dry under a canopy, as he pulled a cigarette from the pack and through the rest into the street. He would touch the tip of the cigarette with his finger, activating his qi for a second to light it, and take a long drag of it.
Percy wasn't usually a smoker, in fact he hated the taste of it, but he found that it was one of the few things that could calm him and take his mind off of things around him. The sound of the rain pounding against the ground in front of him helped as well, as he closed his eyes and let out a breath of smoke into the atmosphere. He wanted to live a normal life, and maybe even try to meet people that actually wanted to spend time with him, but he was almost sure that it was going to be impossible. He was just too distant with people, even when he was trying to be social, and it never took people long to see it. No one wanted to try and get past his barriers, and even he wasn't sure if anyone ever would. He was alone, but at least it was better than the life he led before.

What you don't know can hurt you. Maybe he was right, for the most part most waitresses went for the biggest tips but as if would seem Jayr was primarily the only one here serving tables which in essence provided for her very own monopoly. It was however a contributing factor that she couldn't stand by at each table for too very long and make the usual conversations. She did however try her best to bring a smile to each table as she went. Perhaps the hardest part after all.
As she stood by letting the metal dish to be placed at the edge of the table balanced between its resting spot on the table and counterbalanced by her pelvis. Jayr took to holding the notepad with her left hand and a pen with her right managing a smile as the conversation went on.
"Well, Jayr is it? Can we get a pitcher of Budweiser and three glasses to start out? And I think we decided on cheeseburgers, or am I wrong?"
"Naw man, that's what I wanted."
"Yep, me too."
Jayr would smile back adjusting her hips to balance the metal tray preventing it from falling over as she displaced the notepad into the crevice of her forearm and began jotting down in calligraphy the order. "So a Pitcher and three glasses, would that be three burgers as well?" Jayr would request a reply in a chirpy tone taking her job in essence very seriously but would approach all situations as she always had. With a light airy disposition of complete composure.
"Okay than. That's what we'll have, and if you wouldn't mind I'd love to get your number if you want to hang out after you're done with work. I've got a party going on at my house tonight, and it'd be great if you graced us with your presence."
Jayr would finish up scrawling down the orders not flinching to the request but rather granting him a smile. She'd dealt with this most of her life and it didn't bother her all too much considering it was in their nature to do such, sure it was disrespectful and arrogant but she supposed if there weren't people who made a bold statement here or there the world would be without leaders and risk takers. So the showmanship in itself was a respected quality.
"Sorry boys I don't give numbers to customers, thanks anyway." Jayr would wink with a drawn out smile, "Your order will be up shortly."
Jayr would turn around noting that Percy was getting up to leave the room, her head cocked at an angle out of curiosity raising a hand to stop him, or rather just nudge his shoulder for a moment of attention noting about the grim look on his features.
"You alright? Didn't eat the fish did you?" Jayr would question with a smile commenting a joke about the fish being bad enough to force someone to puke.
She'd linger for but a moment considering whether he replied or not, if he did not She'd return back to the kitchen and request the order up dishes before returning to the field of tables sprawled out. If he chose to speak she'd spare a minute, or two as many as could be managed without her manager giving her the stink eye to return to work and stop fraternizing with the customers regardless of how much business revenue it scaled.

Stopped in his tracks, which wasn't exactly what he had expected to happened, and unfortunately it would lead to Percy making a stupid mistake. As Jayr's hand nudged against his shoulder, he would lose focus on his wandering hand that was reaching for the man's pocket and in turn he would accidentally brush his hand against the man's genitals instead. He knew immediately what had happened, and so he close his eyes and took in a deep and stress filled breath as the man pushed him back against his table.
"What the fuck?! You trying to feel me up faggot?!"
"No no, I didn't mean-"
Not given the opportunity to make up some excuse other than telling the man he was trying to steal his cigarettes, Percy's face was met with the hard fist of the larger man spending him over the table and onto the ground behind the person that had asked for Jayr's number. After giving Percy what was sure to be a nice shiner on his right eye, the larger man would leave the cafe grumbling and pushing people out of the way and slamming the door behind him. The three men that had invited Jayr to their party and been denied looked down at Percy and laughed as he held his hand over his squinting right eye and slowly pushed himself back up to his feet.
"Maybe you should stay down their kid. Someone like you belongs on the ground with the rest of the dirt."
Percy rubbed his eye, looking over at the well dressed man that had insulted him and simply shook his head at the comment. The funny thing was that he could agree with him to an extent. In his own eyes, he was nothing more than the scum of the earth trying desperately to polish himself up to be accepted by the rest of the world. Deep down he knew it would be pointless, but he was too stubborn to just give up. He would walk past their table, stopping right next to Jayr and letting out a sigh. He would be close enough to whisper so that no one else could hear what he was going to say to her.
"You don't have to pretend to care. We're co-workers, not friends, and I don't expect to be."
With that said he would make his way through the slight crowd that had built around the little incident that he was involved in and made his way to the back of the building, behind the stage where all of the electrical work and fuse boxes were. There was a small room for performers to relax as they waited for their turn on stage, whether it was playing music or doing stand-up. Percy would take a seat on a couch with a small coffee table in front of it, kicking his feet up and looking up at the ceiling. His eye was starting to swell, but it was far from his first black eye so he was alright. He could have dodged the punch, broken the man's arm and made an example of him, but Percy wasn't that person anymore. At least he didn't want to be. Sometimes he wondered if it was worth acting like a normal person, especially in situations like that.
There was a guitar leaning against the couch, and since he was alone in the quiet of the backroom he decided to strum a tune and try and get his mind off of things. He wouldn't play anything in particular, at least nothing that was recognizable to someone else, but instead he would begin to create his own little tune. This was something that he would do when he was alone, which was often, and it always helped him calm down. He would begin to hum along with the strumming of his guitar, as if he could imagine the words being written in his head as he play the cords on the guitar. He was in his world, the only place that he truly felt like he belonged, and he wasn't paying attention to anything else but the blurred words that were slowly coming to focus behind his eye lids.

Worlds Apart "What the fuck?! You trying to feel me up faggot?!"
"No no, I didn't mean-"
Jayr turned quickly but just not quick enough as Percy was decked by one of the customers heavily weighted punches. The quick reflex then was to follow as the weight of the punch carried him through to lie atop the table of the boys who quickly proceeded to follow the common bravado of calling out and laughing at his expense. Jayr was at his side already a hand patting his cheek to check if he was conscious or not after something like that.
Turning quickly she'd check to see if the man was still there but he'd bolted quickly and in an angry fashion. Good, she'd hate to have to get fired for retaliating, she needed this job after all to keep up with expenses not to mention her standards of living.
"Maybe you should stay down their kid. Someone like you belongs on the ground with the rest of the dirt."
Jayr would flash the guy a harsh look speculating his character just then, "Not cool guys." Her reply stern enough to be left at that as she followed him up placing a hand on his cheek while the other at the back of his neck to perhaps remedy a doctor's treatment of concussion or other serious aliment only noting his nod and aggressiveness towards her even as she tried to help.
"You don't have to pretend to care. We're co-workers, not friends, and I don't expect to be."
Jayr would back off just then, releasing her touch at the cold response he'd given. She did care, though she thought that was obvious he didn't catch on. She was mixed in between a sympathetic reasoning or slapping him for such a rude remark. They were co-workers and sure maybe not that close but she felt there was some connection between workers, you looked out for one another. There was no sense in this world to be alone. so Jayr didn't do either simply let him retreat into his hovel of low self worth finding herself retreat back into the kitchen with a dismal expression.
That was until Nessa came into the room with her hands on her hips, the expressed reaction was of course all smiles reverting back to Jayr's neutral position plopping down from her seat on the table side.
"They're getting a bit restless out there, I'm pulling you off of Waitress duty, you can sing right?"
"Wait What?" Jayr reacted quickly, "Too late you're on."
Nessa quickly pulled free the apron and shoved Jayr out onto the floor unprepared and consciously unaware of the situation she was in. Think quick. Song, a good one that she could remember. Before she could really think too much Jayr was on the makeshift stage, a look of total fear on her face. It wasn't that she was afraid of speaking in front of crowds but she was a tad bit afraid of singing in front of them. She turned her back to them for a second to consult with the musicians giving them the once over of ideas letting them give input before too ling having mustered the might.
She would begin slow before belting what she knew, the beginning of the song most of what she knew however she got a bit fuzzy mid way through. Going out on a limb hopeful that someone would be out there to give her a hand it was a duet after all. Hope. Essentially her character, it was all she'd ever clung to.

The calming melody that Percy played seemed to resonate through the far reaches of his mind, creating the other instrumental parts from nothing more than his musical imagination. Violins, lighting drumming and some piano all combined with his guitar seemed to make the best combination and so he developed the song in his mind. At first he thought that the lyrics were coming to him, but the more he developed the instrumentals in his head the harder it was for him to put together they lyrics to go with them. He was calm, but he couldn't get Jayr's face out of his mind. Not just her face, but the look she gave him after he basically told her off. She had acted like she cared, brushing his cheek, but like always he believed it was nothing more than an act. The look she gave him caused him to wonder if he had jumped to conclusions. She seemed almost hurt, and slightly shocked by his words, and even though he still believed she was pretending like so many other people he had met in his life he still couldn't get that look out of his mind. Could it be that he had actually hurt her, turned down help from someone that was actually there to help him? Someone that genuinely cared about his well being? He tried to shake the thoughts out of his mind, but it was no use. He was prone to pushing people away and he knew it. It didn't matter if they were kind or rude, friends or enemies, he just had a hard time letting anyone get close to him. He tried to rationalize it by thinking it was for their own good, but there was more to it than that. He would slowly stop strumming the guitar as he heard a commotion stirring up in the cafe, more than likely because of the quick little fight that Percy had been involved in. He could hear the well dressed group of men blaming him for not getting Jayr's number, calling him names and figuring that he was gay because of how he turned down the affection of such a hot girl. He couldn't believe how ignorant some people were, blaming other people for things that they had failed to accomplish in the first place, and even going as far as to question someone's sexual orientation based on one action and probably the fact that the burly man had used a gay slur. It disgusted him, and he wanted so badly to go out and teach them to think before they opened their mouths, but he held himself back like usual. He was about to start playing the guitar again, not really caring about what was going to happen out in the cafe, but he stopped as he heard some awkward footsteps make their way over to the center of the stage. This made Percy curious, and so he got up from his chair and walked up to the curtains behind the stage. To his surprise he found Jayr standing there, with her back to the crowd, as it appeared she was looking for the courage to do something. Then she started singing, softly and timidly at first since she wasn't completely comfortable in front of the crowd, but the fact that she was easy on the eyes and her voice was nice calmed the crowd down quickly. Towards the end of the first part of the song she finally came into her own, signing with all of her heart, which made Percy smile as he made his way onto the stage. He would start strumming the guitar to play along with the song, being familiar with it since he took pride in knowing a ton of songs, and he would smile at Jayr before joining in to make a little duet out of it. I am now In a world where I have to Hide my heart And what I believe in But somehow I will show the world What’s inside my heart And be loved for who I am Who is that boy I see Staring straight back at me? Why is my reflection Someone I don’t know? Must I pretend that I’m Someone else for all time? When will my reflection show Who I am inside? He couldn't help but relate to the lyrics, even though the original was written for and by a female. He constantly felt like he had to pretend to be someone else, someone that society would see as acceptable, because if people knew who he really was, what he really was, they would hate him. He hated what he was, what he was raised to be, but it was a part of who he was. He would continue to strum the guitar, looking over at Jayr with an apologetic look in his eyes as he waited for her to continue the song. The crowd was getting into it, and he believed that the crowd wanted more from her than him since he was just a back up in his mind.

Prayin' for the Rain There was something about a guy who could master the feminine tone of voice in a song that made them score a bit more points in her book, not to mention saving her little moment on stage. Jayr had almost run out of words as Percy took over for another part of the song taking the weight off her back.
She'd reply with her gratitude in the form of a smile tilting her head to the side as he made his own silent apology on stage and she would simply mouth back a thank you. It was all she could afford now without breaking the weight of the song as he seemed to have it down to the dot now. Ending the midpoint where she'd blanked she'd rejoin him to sing in unison should he have preceded. The ending always lasting far most and requiring quite a bit more energy to finish up.
There’s a heart that must Be free to fly That burns with a need To know the reason why Why must we all conceal What we think How we feel Must there be a secret me I’m forced to hide? I won’t pretend that i’m Someone else For all time When will my reflections show Who I am inside? When will my reflections show Who I am inside?
The salvo of applause playing in the background would be drowned out by the pumping of blood in her ears, excitement tearing from cheek to cheek as she looked back to Percy with a true smile making a quick curtsy to the crowd before walking off stage and into the back kitchen with as much composure as could be mustered. Once behind closed doors though all that was lost.
"YES!!" A small shout, loud enough to be overheard just barely from the crowds applause as Jayr quickly curled up covering her mouth with red cheeks. If Percy had followed back here Jayr would give him a big hug with that much energy as before her mouth running a mile a minute, "Thank you so much, I have no idea what I'd have done out there alone." A bright shimmer in her eyes as she remembered the punch quickly tearing herself away and grabbing an icepack moving it over his eye with a sentimental protective side of her.
"Now hold still."

Percy couldn't help but get an odd sensation in his stomach as Jayr said thank you to him as he came to the rescue. He enjoyed playing music and singing, but he realized that this was the first time he had actually done either with another person. He was always one to do things by himself, at least outside of contracts when he was with his family, and knowing that Jayr actually appreciated what he was doing made him happy. It wasn't often that he got the feeling that he had at that moment, and even though he knew it would fade it was nice to have it for as long as it lingered.
They would continue their song, Percy playing the guitar as Jayr sang for the crowd and really got them into it. Everyone's eyes were on her, which was how it should have been, and Percy' couldn't have been more happy for her. Maybe they could have somebody a little more worthy of being the entertainment of the cafe instead of him, someone that would actually bring in more customers, and jayr could do just that. She was talented, whether she knew it or not, and he hoped that this would help her get over whatever amount of fear she had performing in front of a crowd. Percy simply enjoyed playing the music in the back ground for her and keeping the song going. He was never one that liked to be the center of attention, even though he could handle it, and so this worked for him.
As they finished their song the crowd almost lost it, applauding and whistling and screaming as Jayr smiled over at Percy before doing a little curtsy and making her way off stage. Percy would give his own little bow before playing the guitar against the piano and following Jayr off stage. She was making her way back to the kitchen, which was a place that Percy hadn't really went to since he figured he was only an entertainer and nothing more. Very few people payed much attention to him, most even thinking that he was just a musician that played there to get his name around the city. Either way, he would follow her into the kitchen, and as soon as the door shut he would smile as Jayr screamed out in excitement.
She would continue her excitement by giving Percy a tight hug, which he kind of tensed up as her arms wrapped around him. He wasn't used to affection, even from Victoria, so he really wasn't sure how to react to her hug. As eh let go, he could tell that she was still in the moment, taking it all in and smiling from ear to ear as she thanked him for being there for her, saying that she wouldn't have known what to do if she were by herself.
"Oh, I'm sure you would have been-"
Percy would be stopped by Jayr moving away from him quickly, grabbing an ice pack and placing it gently against his eye, telling him to hold still. He would wince, not realizing how tender the bruising around his eye had become in such a short amount of time, and without thinking he would grab her arm that held the ice pack against his eye and squeeze it slightly. It wasn't meant to cause her pain, but instead relieve the jolt of pain that had rushed through his body when the ice pack touched his eye. After he noticed what he was doing he would quickly take his hand away and shove it in his pocket, looking away from her in a bit of embarrassment.
"Sorry... About that and about earlier. I'm just... I'm not used to people actually caring without... Nevermind, its not important."
He would let out a sigh, knowing that he had almost actually opened up to someone which was something he knew he would regret if it did so. Jayr may have been sincere, but he knew that she would never understand why he was the way he was.
"You were great out there though, Jayr. You would a better entertainer for the cafe than me. People would actually come here just to watch and listen to you."
Percy never really thought to highly of himself, even though he knew just how talented he was. When it came down to it sex appeal would always beat musical genius, and he knew it. If he was fired after tonight, after the fight and everyone seeing how talented Jayr was, he would simply accept it and move on with his life.

Tough Luck "Oh, I'm sure you would have been-"
"Hold this still." Jayr would interrupt not wanting to hear another self gratifying statement. She knew she could do it she just again didn't want to steal anyone else's glory, much less be in front of a crowd of strangers. Besides it took talent to play guitar and sing simultaneously.
Her hand would reach for his to replace her hand over the icepack slowly letting go once he'd gotten a grip of it himself. She'd greet that with a fair complementary smile. The small grip on her wrist left unnoticed more because she knew it was a mechanism you did to protect yourself. The same image popped into her head when Jayr was thirteen and at the dentist's. She hated dentists but owed them her smile. Still they were on uneven grounds.
"Sorry... About that and about earlier. I'm just... I'm not used to people actually caring without... Nevermind, its not important."
Jayr would move back to a counter quickly shifting her hands under her back atop the counter's edge to lift herself over and atop it coming to a relaxed seat. A reassuring grin would play across her features slowly letting her vision drop downward fearing her cerulean hues had grown far to overbearing.
"Its alright, I know everyone has their defensive mechanisms." Jayr would make an effort to understand just that, he reacted defensively not wanted to get hurt. Jayr did the same thing when people got too close sometimes, she acted like a bitch. We all had our quirks but thats what made them imperfectly perfect.
"You were great out there though, Jayr. You would a better entertainer for the cafe than me. People would actually come here just to watch and listen to you."
Jayr would blush slightly at the compliment, she really didn't think she deserved that much esteem from such a performance, she forgot half the words, most of it could be mainly attributed to seven years of being obsessed with Disney movies for whatever reason.
"No I-"
A quick clunking noise in the next room was heard quickly disrupting Jayr's attention as her head moved on a swivel turning towards Nessa entering the room with a malicious grin painted from cheek to cheek.
"You two were great out there!" She'd begin quickly marching in between them planting a light sock to Percy's shoulder before jerking him into a headlock-like bear hug doing the same with Jayr so their heads would clunk in the middle before being suffocated by abnormally large breasts at center. "Both of you have the night off, and Jayr you've been moved to Stage. Percy don't you dare think about backing out because you're still on stage duty!"
She'd say it all so aggressively it was a cheerful tone but in the meanest of ways so that it left Jayr confused as to if she was doing things right. Before she knew what was going on she was released, the large breasts at center holding her up would quickly swish away leaving Jayr to fall on her butt to the floor with a silent 'ouch'.
Scratching her head softly out of confusion Jayr looked up at Percy with an innocent smile trying to appear as though she had no clue what was going on, despite following somewhat fluently. Aside from Nessa of course who was just strange.
"How bout I take you up on that meal Percy? If you're free of course." Jayr would offer happily with a ringing smile now having been allotted the time to endorse in his original offer merely moments before.
