He'd smile and nod. Trying to imitate what she was doing with intense focus and delicate hands.
His voice and expression would remain, but the barest hint of pain could be felt in his voice.
"I... am grateful. It's always insane to think if I die, my entire culture, my entire race goes with me. It will be comforting to think that at least in a memory, something will remain of my people."

"So... teach me about your people." Shiloh was obviously focused on trying to get the lines straight, but was struggling. It didn't look like a complete failure, but it sure didn't look that pretty.
"I... I don't HAVE a culture or anything. So, I'll help keep yours alive, if you'll let me." She paused what she was doing to look up at him, her green eyes shining with amusement and genuine affection. She wasn't frustrated or upset, despite her mediocre wrapping job. She seemed to be having the time of her life. "Your people, your life, your culture... it is important to you... and I'll share the weight of that burden with you, so you don't have to be alone."

"You don't need to worry about that. I do not mind holding celebrations, or answering questions but you should focus on your life and your culture. You do have one and I'm learning it now. It's pretty special. It would be unfair and a disservice to you to try and retrain your mind in the way I was raised."
He'd sigh and stop for a moment. "In this world... my people died off 1000's of years ago, and my race no longer exists. This is just how it is. My only burden is that I am the only one like me left. I can always share what that means with you, but at the end of the day, I alone choose to die with that burden."
He'd look fondly, his wrapping job done and equally as messy. His words were simple, but entirely honest.

Shiloh paused as she began to wrap her second present. Her culture was long since forgotten, left on the other world. She remembered little things, like holidays with her parents, but they were gone now, too. She couldn't help but wonder if they tried to have another child after she disappeared. Sitting there, lost in her thoughts for a moment, she almost missed what else DJ said.
Snapping back to attention, she returned her focus on him. Offering him a smile, she nodded.
"That makes sense. I support that. If you ever need to, I'm here with you, though. To help, however I can."

He would notice her spacing out, clearly deep in thought. after her response, he would just nod, give a quick "Thank you", and wrap quietly. He wanted to wait and see what would come of these thoughts, he felt he had been talking way too much about himself.

Shiloh fell into a comfortable silence with DJ, continuing to wrap presents and hum along with the Christmas songs playing from the radio. She seemed content to relax and enjoy the environment, and after a few minutes, it became obvious that she wasn't the kind of person to really need conversation. The quiet seemed just as comfortable to her.

Dj also seemed to fall into the comfortable silence. He was really happy and conversational, but at the end of the day he goes to bed and wakes up alone. When he was young, his job was to listen, not speak.
Hours at upon hours every day dedicated to observing and fixing what's wrong lead to his wrapping improving slowly. Sometimes he would completely mess up trying something new, but he would quietly start again.

Shiloh was obviously not particularly good at wrapping, but she seemed to be having fun with it. She was humming softly until they were done, and she leaned back against the couch, staring at their handiwork.
"I'm so glad I didn't have to do this by myself." She chuckled, and glanced over at DJ with a tilt of her head. "Thank you again."

He would seem surprised that the silence was broke. He would nod and take a moment before saying. "I'm glad I could help! It's going to be fun!" He'd be beaming as he spoke, truly happy to help.

Shiloh nodded, and then set aside yet another wrapped up box. She was looking at all of the presents and let out a content sigh. They had really accomplished quite a bit together, and she was gazing proudly over their handiwork.
"You know... I was worried about this Christmas, actually. Adel usually tries to spend it either with her dad, or alone at her house. She usually doesn't come out. And for a long time, she was my only friend... so I've spent the last few Christmases alone, too. It has been... kinda rough. This will be really nice. To be with people again, for a holiday."

Dj would stare proud at their work beside Shiloh, saying "You should be proud of yourself. You deserve it."
Though his expression would quickly become more somber as she spoke of her concern. He would just be honest. "Yeah, and you deserve to be happy with friends. I had forgotten what it felt like to have a holiday, and I owe rediscovering it to you." He'd turn and give a jaded smile "So as long as you'll have me, I'll be sure you never celebrate alone."

Shiloh smiled softly, gazing down at their success. The idea of having friends, real and true, genuine friends, was something like a dream of hers. She hadn't ever expected it to come true, however. She was so used to being alone here, in this world...
But even being friends with DJ, she would still be alone to some degree. Because she couldn't tell DJ about her abilities, or where she came from. That was something she couldn't tell anyone.
Looking up at him, she let out a breath she didn't quite realize she was holding. "Everything is better with friends," she said in agreement.

Dj Noticed that Shiloh was holding her breath. She looked on as she held a lonely expression. A deep sadness filled Dj's eyes. He understood the distance. They barely knew eachother and no matter what labels they used for each other Dj was still separate. He knew he was strange, and that would make it even harder to open up. A deep sadness would enter Dj, though he'd just quietly smile and nod to Shiloh.
In his mind, he was a fool to open himself up so quickly. Though, he wanted to still try and make Shiloh feel better.

She took a deep breath and leaned back. It was moments like this that really made keeping everything a secret difficult. She stared up at her ceiling for a moment, and thought about just... letting it out. Just saying it. But she couldn't. Something stopped her.
She and DJ fell into a quiet, companionable quiet, each alone with their thoughts.
