Had anyone asked Allison where she expected to be a couple of months ago, struggling with a squad with upcoming exams and political mayhem would not have been her answer. Nor would have she expected to be going against other soldiers and trainees with fisticuffs, or meeting her biological father – an archangel, of all things – and having him inform her that darker, powerful times were coming. Times were people with abilities like her could shift the world and its perceptions. Time when people no longer hid in the wilds because of who they were or what they could do.
It was with that thought that Ali stood before the board, ready to have the review her potential and growth since coming to the Academy. Part of her felt that she should hold off still, to wait until she pushed herself further and could show more. But she had already fought in a battle that stained the fields surrounding her home red, and if there was more to come, then she couldn’t put it off due to her need for establish she had even higher skill than she already did. That, they would see in time.
She stood t the ready, an hour before her scheduled exam time. Green eyes looked out over the campus lawn, the people who roamed it, sparred, or otherwise lived their lives. None of them were familiar faces, as distant to her personally as they were physically. Her heart twisted in her chest at home much it reminded her of home, a sharp stab that left a bitter taste in her mouth.
It reminded her of home. For all that they were different, for all 260 was more refined and advanced, it seemed people were still the same. But that was fine, the redhead resolved as she rolled her shoulders. She came here for more than one reason, and even if Cabal failed her expectations, it was a doorway towards her future that she opened of her own free will; not to mention the literal blood, sweat, and tears.
“This is no different than before,” she reminded herself quietly as she pulled her hair up. “Just another exam.” One she had studied hard for and would be able to breathe freely once it was over. She was representing her homeland and what battle mages could do, making it clear to those who knew her here as a nobody, not by birth but by rank. Something she intended to change.
Time passed, and she was ready. Bowing before the board that would review her progress, Ali turned to her attention to the volunteer she had requested, as well as the wooden training dummy. Her abilities didn’t require going out in the open or having a medic on standby, which was probably a mercy at this point.
“Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for the moment you’ve taken during this busy time. I would like to show you what we are capable of at Ayatlan, and what other mages can provide on the front lines as we send other mages to honor our territories’ agreement.” She would turn her attention to the dummy before her, lashing out at it with her blade as the steel struck the dummy.
“Kek!” Splinters chipped and flew with the force of the blow, her vivid hair fading to a brilliant of white as she channeled her mana, the second attack stronger than her first.
“However, we can provide more than military might.. We can also provide additional support to reduce strain and risk to other support units who may not be able to best serve on the front line.” Nodding for the volunteer to step forward, she would lash out again at the dummy, channeling multiple spells at once.
“Kek-Thunen Nish!” The strength surged through her again, drawing on raw power and using her body to channel it, to let it flow through her and back out with amplified strength. It, in turn, caused the area around her to glow faintly at first, then significantly brighter as she used her newfound strength to heal the minor wounds of her volunteer, reterning the vitality to them so that they could keep on fighting.
Then, to add to the point she was certain was clear, she drew on the chain of energy she created. “Raztal!” Willing it to form around the dummy to draw it in close, Ali hurled it far away a moment later, strong enough to give a person whiplash while it was still attached to the chain to prevent it crashing into anything valuable or causing damage.
After a moment, she let the chain go, her appearance returning to normal as she nodded to the directors standing by. Awaiting their judgment.
“I hope this is to your satisfaction.”
