A Mage's Counsel (Mages/Open)

[Sectos Barker]

Sectos was incredibly tired when he arrived back in Cabal and headed straight o his Red Team barracks room, where he promptly dropped his bag and passed out on his bed. After a good sleep he would wake up, and he was crusty and dirty. He showered and wrapped his wound properly after reopening and cleaning it. He gathered up his study bag, scrolls, and supplies. Finally putting on his regular pants and nothing else he'd sling the bag and go about searching the grounds.

He knew other Mage's were attending Cabal currently, and they should be around somewhere, most likely practicing any kind of practical applications or studying in a library or somewhere peaceful with an abundance of aether. They would likely have something he could go on.

Ali was at the library, a couple of books in front of her and another opened tol natural forms of qi amplification. The mage shifted once in a while in her seat, still feeling the pain from her bout with Cain. A small list of rune were scratched out on a scap of paper as she worked through a potential spell.

Preston was on the other side of the table, as far as he could be from her but at the same library table, with a larger stack of books on far more advanced topics than Ali had. Like a low-class mage was going to show him up.

Oh look, a whole table of Ayatlan mages... He assumed. Either way he made his way to the table and placed his bag down somewhat between them as he looked to each of their book piles and what they were working on. He would pull out the Tome and the Crystal placing them on the table as well with his own Tome and some writing utencils and scrolls. He would quickly draw out what Runes he could remember, but it was just some form of summoning make up. That didn't help him, but the missing pieces may be useful for them as a group. Finally he would turn to the other two at the table.

"I am sorry for interrupting what work you two are working on, but I couldn't help but notice we are all from Ayatlan?"

Break the ice, get the conversation working, play the game.

Ali looked up when someone else joined them, a momentary break in her ignoring the high-class mage at the other end of the table. The aged book dropped down with the bag certainly caught her attention, looking up and raising her brows at a man with no shirt and plenty of tattoos He seemed to have a grimoire? Maybe? It was rather empty, but then, so was hers. Not that she'd ever admit it.

"I am, yes. You are...?"

Preston was also ignoring Ali as he did his own studies until the second commoner came to flank him. Sectos, the one that could not keep all of his clothing on. Of course it was. He glanced over at the dropping of the tomes only to catch glimpse of something older than anything Sectos should have.

"Where did you get that?"

No time for Ali's question!

Sectos was indeed about to answer Ali with a formal introduction, but he was cut short by the other guy who just blurted out the thing he wanted to talk about.

~Maybe dad was wrong? They seem open to just discussing important things without the small stuff.~

Sectos would grab the old Tome and hold it up.

"Had a bit of a... Run in with it at an art and artifact exhibit... However, it's nothing but an old empty book now."

Ali sat up a little straighter, partially at being ignored but mostly at the description. Her eyes narrowed a little.

"Run in how?"

[Preston Salabim]

Preston stayed silent, letting him answer Ali's question. And weighing the answer.

Sectos would turn to look at Ali this time.

"Well I went because I really enjoy art and artifacts from the war, and I felt this was my only chance. I went in and checked out the Tome in it's exhibit and it activated. Started spreading runes like these everywhere on people."

Sectos would put the Tome down and pick up the scroll where he wrote down the runes he saw.

"All I know is it was a kind of summoning spell... But it was powerful, and creatures, fiends I am unfamiliar with started exploding from inside of people."

He reached back into his bag and pulled out the shirt.

"Blood would mix with this stuff as they came through."

Ali looked over the runes as she listened to his answer, frowning at the disturbing image as she held out her hand for the shirt.

"May I see it, please?" She would wait for the shirt as she continued, unending to take a look at the substance.

"You mentioned it was activated? Who by?" It coudln't possibly be Sectos, even though she had a gut feelign it probably had been.

"And how?"

Preston would add, frowning. He didn't like this.

[Sectos Barker]

Sectos would hand over the shirt to Ali, before explaining.

"I hope not, myself, but I can't discount the possibility. I reached out with my energy to see if I could feel what magics may lay inside the Tome, and it had an adverse reaction, or possibly a trap waiting for that very thing. Either way, it had awakened and began it's effects."

Ali takes a moment to inspect what is presumably blood and ink! Just basic things that may be out of place before a deeper look into it or the runes. Momentarily, because Sectos's words made her eye twitch a little as she realized what it was he was saying.

"You reached out with your own energy.." she said slowly as she looked up at him.  "Which Tome was it?"

Preston listened, glancing over at his pile of books with a thoughtful frown.
