Every other year, the Galanos family would host Christmas and invite their best friends the Rhamos. Likewise, the off years were hosted by the Rhamos. That meant one way or another, Kaia HAD to be around that guy and it was more important than ever to try and keep her cool.
Especially following a certain event.
As everyone else was seated at the table, Kaia helped her father serve the food, doing her best to completely ignore Cain. Unfortunately, when you’re hyperfocused on doing something petty, and you can already feel your rage boiling…something’s bound to go wrong. And boy was she getting fired up at the sound of the Rhamos’ discussing how proud they were of Cain’s new chapter and how much her own mother, Aurelie, was praising him.
As Kaia rounded around the table and walked behind him, Kaia’s foot would get caught in the legs of Cain’s chair. Did he suddenly move back? Did she just forget about her footing from listening to the conversation so much? She didn’t ACTUALLY know. But you know who she was going to blame, anyway.
The bowl of peas she was holding would go flying onto the floor, running perfectly good food.
“Oh, REAL NICE, Rhamos!” Kaia would snap, crouching down to pick up the mess.
As usual, this led to an argument. One that at least had nothing to do with his Godhood, so it didn’t get nearly as personal.
Kaia’s mom just watched in amusement, throwing a comment about how funny their courtship was. Kaia would look at her stunned before backing the hell away from him and slipping on the bowl and peas. The bowl would be sent flying at Cain.
She would rather have been called a disappointment. It would have been less traumatic than THAT implication.
The rest of Christmas, Kaia spent relatively quietly. And as far away from, anyone as she could.
It was humiliating.
You know who ruined Christmas?
Fucking Cain for existing.
