Xapham was a little sadder now.
"Unfortunately yes, it's all I can do to keep the Meta children safe, as much as I would love to help more children, right now it's safer for both Meta's and non-meta's if I take in and train only Meta's. The only exceptions being those that are non-meta's that are from our world, because they are more... sturdy than the people of this world."

Shiloh nodded and shifted her weight again, thoughtfully. She remembered the little boy from her own orphanage, the one Xapham had basically rescued. She remembered how afraid she was of everything, back then. Not much had changed.
"How do you... know?"

"Ah, we hear reports. Back when I first started it was by newspaper clippings and shady news stories. Nowadays people call to let me or the TSA know that there is a Meta around. At which point we get them picked up and brought here."

She nodded. Then he had no way to know, without a doubt, that she was a Meta. Her secret was still safe, at least for the time being...
"What if... they don't want to come?"
She remembered the little boy, who looked so scared when Xapham's people came to pick him up. He had cried so hard...

Some children prefer to stay... and if it were up to me, as long as they were safe I would let them stay, if thats what they wanted... but unfortunately the government of this world isn't so lenient..."

Shiloh cocked a brow slightly. This was news to her. She hadn't ever tried to leave, and she really didn't have any reason to. In fact, considering the fact that her powers were a secret, she wasn't sure if anyone would stop her... but it still caught her off guard.

"It's an open secret. Metas are free to roam the city as we please, the TSI that are here are seen as a protecting force, which is... accurate to a degree. But the thing is that they are trained to handle Qi users. Even my older students help... but any metas that leave are hunted down and... well. Nothing good."

Shiloh felt a chill creeping through her. That couldn't be true... could it? Adelaide's father ran the TSI, and he was so friendly, so kind. Why would he ever hunt down a Meta?
"How do... they know, then? Do they have a registry or something?" She felt like she should know this, with how often she interacted with the Sudeki family, but it hadn't ever really... come up.

She fell silent. She should have known better than to ask, but... she might have been a photographer, but she had a journalist's mind. Shiloh stared down at her shoes, knowing full well that she was going to investigate until she got more answers.
