She shook her head, still refusing to look up at him.
"It's... not your fault. It's mine... I'm u-upset because... it's true. I've been lying to my best friends, to the p-people who love me... and they might... never forgive me... when they find out."

She thought about Adelaide, and the way her best friend tucked her in, the way she smiled when she played music. She thought about DJ, and how she barely knew him, but he was already so very important to her. She thought about WR, with their wicked temper and sharp tongue. She thought about Drake, and his broken heart hidden by fierceness. She thought about all the friends she had managed to make, and she smiled. It was a soft, gentle smile, filled with a strange sense of peace. Love? These people were a part of her heart, they made her truly believe in her dream.
"I do... I love them so much, Xapham. They mean the world to me. They... inspire me, to be better. I love people in general, don't... don't get me wrong. People as a whole are wonderful, and so worthy of love. And maybe it's selfish of me, but these people... I love them even more."

She fell silent at that, not wanting to give him an answer without first thinking about it. She felt like they loved her, in her heart, but she wanted to think about it logically. Shiloh closed her eyes, and images rushed at her of all the times she had spent with her friends, her family, and how they looked at her. She remembered how they acted around her, how they never flinched away from her.
Opening her eyes again, she nodded, biting her bottom lip. "I... think so?"

Shiloh contemplated that for a moment. Love conquers all... That was something she believed, down to her very soul. Tilting her head to one side, she smiled softly. It would be a huge weight off her shoulders, if she could just... tell them. It would explain so much.
"Somebody once told me... that it would be best to keep it a secret. It would be safer that way... that I wouldn't get involved with what is coming..."
The war. She clenched her hands slightly on her thighs, staring down at them and the way the skin stretched.
"I wanted to... hide from it all, before. But... I don't want to, now. I want to find a way to... help."

"I don't know this person that told you that... but I can guess that they are the type of individual that is so full of their own pain that their idea of help is to encourage others to also bury anything that could cause them pain. It is not a suggestion I would take seriously. If anything you should try to help open them up."

Drake was in pain, that much she knew. She had seen it at the Christmas tree, when he hung the homemade ornament around the statue's neck. Her smile turned sad, and she glanced up at Xapham with a nod. He was right... and she wasn't quite sure how to handle that, yet.
