Shiloh followed him towards the edge of the building, her hands clasping behind her back. She kept looking between him and the skyline, before her attention finally focused outward.
"I miss my parents, and a part of me has never really felt like I... belonged here. But the first time I came up to this rooftop..." She stared out over the city, and her smile became soft, gentle... and far more true to herself than the ones that normally graced her face. "The first time I came up here, I felt like... I could see the big picture. I could see why it was worth it to stay here, to live and to learn to love, to experience things. I don't know if I will be here forever, but even after I leave... This is how I want to remember Palisade City. This view, the way the sun reflects off everything. The way it makes me feel like, even as small as I am, I am a part of something bigger... something beautiful."
She turned back to Cain, then, and tilted her head. "And so are you."

Cain nods along at first, but the last statement makes him furrow his brow in confusion.
"I don't know about that... for me. I'm still finding my way here, personally."
He looks at her.
"It's... complicated. I have strong ties to home."

"This doesn't have to be your home, and if you want to go back... I will try my best to help you. But when I say something bigger, I'm not talking about this place, necessarily. I'm not talking about home, either."
Shiloh chuckled and gave a slight shake of her head.
"I guess I don't really know what I'm talking about, specifically. Maybe it's not something that can be specific. I'm just talking about being... a part of something. Like a little piece that helps make the engine run."

"Hmm..."
He looks away again, towards the light of the falling sun.
"...you might be right. I don't know what to call it either, but I can feel it."
Cain doesn't want to just say "life" in general, but that might be the most accurate way to put it.

Shiloh smiled softly and nodded, turning her attention back to the view. She seemed almost relieved that he felt it as well.
"I come up here whenever I feel lost, or hopeless, or even directionless. I usually sit here, and just think, and it feels... easier, somehow."
She moved to the edge of the roof and sat down, her legs dangling, and she sighed softly.

"What direction do you think you're taking now?"
Cain asks, looking at her out of the corner of his eye.
"What drives you, now?"

Shiloh smiled softly.
"Hope... Thats what drives me. I want to find a way to bring light back into this world, and whatever other worlds I can, to make people smile again."
She pointed out, to where the sky was beginning to darken, ever so slightly... and the stars were starting to come out.
"I want to be like those stars. Something that keeps shining, no matter how dark it might be, even when people might not necessarily see them... It sounds silly, and probably something that I will never accomplish, but thats what keeps me going."

Cain chuckles, not in a mocking way, but more as if he'd just realized something.
"I see. Then, if that's what you want to be, then you'll end up doing it. You don't need to worry about what others think."
He nods towards the sun.
"The stars don't care if people believe in them or not, they shine regardless. As long you do the same, you'll accomplish what you're after."

Shiloh continued to smile softly, watching the way the stars began to twinkle, enjoying the sight of dusk as it fell.
"I know I can't bring PEACE to everyone. There has to be a balance... and I can accept that. I don't think fighting is intrinsically wrong, because for some people, its what drives them. I just... won't fight, myself."
She looked over at Cain and leaned over to lightly bump his shoulder with her own.
"Thank you. For coming here with me."

"Peace and War are interchangeable, like day and night. No matter how long one lasts, it will eventually give way to the other. And as long as you have people willing to fight for you, you'll never need to fight physically, yourself. Fight in your own way."
Or so he believes, anyway.
Cain snorts at the shoulder bump, then smiles slightly again.
"Thanks for bringing me. This is one of those few special spots in the world, I think."

She nodded, continuing to gaze out at the darkening sky.
"I think so, too..."
And she fell into a companionable sort of silence, simply enjoying the view.

For once, Cain is happy to just let the silence speak for itself, happy to sit there and watch the sun set, bringing with it the illumination of starlight afterwards.
