“It would depend on the cause we’d be fighting for. Also the terms in agreement with joining. I for one don’t wish to be subject to becoming a human hamster wheel, an experiment beyond recognition, or simply subjected to becoming property to a cause I don’t believe in.” Rhona replied a bit flatly.

Gidget nodded thoughtfully. She hadn't ever expressed an interest in joining the military, mostly because she liked working for herself. However, the hamster wheel comment grated on a nerve, and it took a mixture of self control and concentration not to snip back. She was, quite literally, a human experiment. But Rhona didn't know about that, and getting pissed off wouldn't solve anything... except expose her secret before she was ready.
"Most people join the military because they either love the country, or the people in it. They're our warriors and fighters. Is why I asked."

“No offense, we didn’t have quite the warmest welcome since we arrived I’m not sure I could cast my lot in either of those hats even if I wanted to. Still your TSI group seems incredibly formidable, as a collective we don’t have as much strength as we did after losing some powerful leaders so I think we would be hard pressed should they decide to come down on us.” Rhona would not underestimate opponents before knowing the full story.

Gidget, having been directly employed by the TSI, knew exactly what kind of formidable opponent they could be. She nodded at Rhona. Everything she had said made complete sense.
"What causes DO you believe in, enough to fight for?"

“Back home it was impressing the Gods and making my family proud. Defending my own homeland. This place is similar but I can’t say I have any personal attachments here. Cabal was about defense and growth as a territory valuing loyalty and strength.” She answered Gidget.

"So where do your loyalties lie... here? With Xapham and his cu- orphans? With yourself? With your old gods?"
Gidget was starting to huff again, but seemed to be able to talk still, despite the toll the run was starting to take on her.

“My loyalty I suppose for the time will go to those who need me and will look to me in hope. Maybe to Xepham, the orphans, the metas, and maybe even you. I lost my abilities because I wanted to give others a chance to survive. I joined the Institute because Xepham said the orphans could use someone like me. You’ve decided to place hope in me, a complete stranger, for fitness advice. I like to think that was because you believed I could help... you placed blind trust in me, I don’t plan on taking that honor for granted.” Rhona nodded she hadn’t been able to put it to words before. That sounded like the best answer she could give and she was content with it.

Gidget fell silent as she contemplated what Rhona said. She wasn't wrong... The tiny girl had followed a stranger into a very suspicious situation, all because she hoped the stranger could help her better herself. She glanced over at Rhona, realizing just how wrong this entire situation could have gone. Of course, she had told both Drake and WR where she was going, and when, but...
She shook her head for a moment and stared down at her feet as they slapped the pavement. Without much thought, she shifted her weight a bit more to her toes, which made balancing and fluid movement just a tiny bit easier.
"But you don't know me. Why would you be loyal to me of all people? Xapham makes sense. The kids make sense. But me?"

“True, further more your manners when I greeted you we’re rude and you were convinced without even trying that nothing was going to work. “ Rhona pointed out. “If you hadn’t shown up today I might have never looked at you with any amount of respect... yet you’re here. So I think it’s worth it.” She shrugged while jogging a smile grew on her face.

Gidget couldn't help but snicker. If most of her breathing wasn't focused on keeping her body moving, she probably would have outright laughed. "Rude" was a fairly typical description of her, especially the first time meeting with somebody new. She was a brat, or at least... she came across as one.
"I thought about not coming... but mostly because of the school, not so much 'cause of you. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about the whole thing." She had lived here for about a year, and Xapham's school had been around even longer than that, but she still knew next to nothing about it.

“What are you worried about?” Rhona asked as she mentioned being worried about the school.

"It might not look weird to you, but from the outside, it looks weird as fuck to me."
She glanced towards Rhona. She didn't want to necessarily offend her, but she had asked, and she wanted to try to be at least somewhat truthful to her.

“Because some of us have tentacles coming from our heads and laser beam eyes or what?” She grinned amused and really wanted Gidget to elaborate. “To me this was normal yes, so I am having trouble finding the difference.”

"Does somebody actually have tentacles?" Gidget asked, turning to look at Rhona with wide eyes.

Tentacles, horns, many eyes, speakers in their cheeks, you name it someone’s had it.” Rhona answered. “Is that what is weird for you?”
