Gidget took a bit longer of a shower than she usually did, despite having just taken one earlier that day. It must have been a new record for the hacker who so often forgot to eat, even when food was placed right in front of her. Feeding Drake had made that a bit easier, and being around WR made showering more often a necessity.
But, in all actuality, she wanted some time to think. She wanted to take a moment, away from WR and their influence over her, to really sit and wonder what she wanted to know. She was so new at opening up to people, at not hiding herself the moment anyone showed her any positive attention, that getting to know somebody felt... almost overwhelming at times. Taking a deep breath, she finally turned the shower off and got out, drying herself off before she dressed.
The typical staple of her outfit - the imp hoodie that Scott had given her - was a necessity. It felt like having a piece of him here, with her, even when he was... wherever. She dressed casually aside from it and then spent just long enough to update her "away" status on her computer before heading down the stairs to meet her... thingfriend. How did that even work?

When they were finally inside the comfort of their apartment again, the first thing WR did was speed to their room and set the dragon statue on the bedside table. Their gaze lingered on it for a moment before darting to the mirror on the wall.
They were... a mess. It wasn't that they looked bad, but they were slowly becoming more self conscious about their appearance the more time they spent around Gidget, which was becoming somewhat of a problem. They shook their head, and began removing layers off of their upper body until it was bare. They were beaten, scarred, and their body sure as hell showed it.
They sighed, running their fingers over random marks and wondering what Gidget would think when she saw them. They rotated slightly until they could see the tattoos on their back, and shook their head again. After a few minutes, they finally managed to break their attention away from the mirror and sped around the room to redress in something a bit more casual.
Then, they sped outside to their car, lighting a cigarette while they waited for Gidget.

Gidget came down the stairs, shaking out her still damp hair, and running her fingers through it. The black strands looked darker against her pale skin, but it was more difficult to notice when they settled back into the grey. Glancing up, she caught sight of WR and their cigarette and smiled, wandering over.
"You know, you might never have guessed this... but I don't think I've ever actually tried one of those." She snickered, giving a shake of her head. "My parents were always so fucking health conscious. 'It'll cause cancer,' they said," she muttered, almost mockingly, and rolled her eyes. "Because cancer is obviously something to worry about when... You know." She motioned idly towards her arms and her head, then leaned against the car beside WR.

WR smiled when they caught sight of Gidget, their eyes following her as she waddled over to their car. Her damp hair reminded them that she had showered, and they realized they probably should have done the same.
"Honestly, these things suck. Just force of habit at this point," They shrugged, pinching the butt and tossing it aside. "Wouldn't recommend, but yeah, there are definitely worse things."

"When did you start smoking?" she asked with genuine curiosity, her hair falling into her face as she leaned. Her eyes were alight with thought as she contemplated everything she really didn't know about them... and everything she wanted to know.

WR was surprised by the question but was quick to answer it.
"When I was fifteen, I think," They thought about it for a moment and nodded in reassurance. Hopefully she didn't ask for the story behind it...

"Why so young?"
Sorry, WR. No luck there. Gidget was nothing if not curious. All information was good information, as far as she was concerned.

WR crossed their arms over their chest, averting their gaze to the sky. They supposed being more open with her also meant being honest with answers...
They exhaled sharply.
"My dad fucking hated me, and did some REALLY fucked up shit to me, and that was one of my ways of dealing with it," They were surprised. They had somehow managed to bite their tongue a bit, because it didn't come out nearly as blunt as they anticipated it being.

Gidget didn't seem to falter at all. She remained constant and steady. She gave a little shake of her head, careful not to let any stray water droplets get onto WR, before asking, "What do you mean? If you don't want to talk about him right now, you don't have to, but... what did he... do?"

The question stabbed at their heart a bit but their posture wouldn't show it. The bluntness of their words, however, would.
"He beat and raped me, religiously, 'cause he wanted me to act like 'my gender'."

Gidget flinched at that. She knew WR had been through hell, but that was something she wasn't quite expecting. She wanted to reach out and touch them, to comfort them, but that seemed... invasive.
"I..." She wanted to apologize, but she wasn't sure what for, exactly... and she didn't want them to think, even for a moment, that she pitied them. "Thats pretty fucking horrible... What a douche waffle."

"Yeah," They unfolded their arms and opened the door, signaling for her to get in with a tilt of their head.
They slid into their seat and shoved the keys into the ignition, waiting for Gidget to get settled herself.
"It's fine, though. Motherfucker's dead now."

Gidget slipped into the car without a word, once more not bothering with a seat belt. She moved like she was about to prop one foot up on the dashboard, and then thought better of it. Settling into her seat again, she stretched her legs out.
She wondered about their sister, and about their father's death... and even about their mother. She thought back to her own family, and winced slightly. That was a sore subject for her.
"Is that why you're... non-binary?"

Ahh, there it was. Not quite the context they were expecting to lead into it, but it was fine. They shook their head, smiling a bit. They were honestly surprised it took THIS long to come up, but it did at least show Gidget didn't care about their gender.
"Androgynous, and partially. When I was old enough to understand gender roles, I hated them, 'cause I thought they were too... restrictive? Can't think of the word. I just didn't want to be tied down by them, so I started going by either pronoun, primarily they, and dressing and acting however I wanted."

Gidget glanced over at WR with a nod. Not at all how she came about her own androgynous nature, but still relatable, at least to some degree.
"So... can I... know?... or do I get to just, like... find out... later?" She glanced sideways at them. "And it doesn't change the 'they' in my head, or the thingfriend thing, or the person-partner, and at the end of the day it doesn't exactly matter... and I'm definitely in love with you and not the thing-stuff.... the thingfriend, yes, but the thing-stuff, n--.... You know what. Imma just shut up now."
Gidget had taken on a progressively more red tone to her skin until she was practically the shade of a tomato. She turned to stare intently out the window, covering her mouth with her hand.
"Forget I said anything. It'll be like unwrapping a birthday present. Surprise!" She mumbled around her fingers.
