WR just sat in silence while Gidget did her thing, idly rubbing her joints while they drove around the city.

Gidget remained quiet, clinging to their hand, and stared out the window. She took a deep breath.
"My... parents are a lot..." she whispered. "And if you don't want to meet them, I'll understand."

WR exhaled sharply.
"It's not that I don't, I just don't want to fuck anything up. I know it doesn't matter, it's stupid, I just..."
They sighed.
"I worry too much about everything. Ever since Sylvye died."
After the name slipped out, their gaze fell dull and their smile faded.

Sylvye.
"That's... your sister, right?" she asked softly, beginning to slowly drag her thumb across the back of their hand, hoping to comfort them.

They hesitated at the question. They had never openly talked about it with anyone, not even with anyone back home. It was something they kept to themself, forever and always...
Until now.
"Yeah, she was. My big sis, first one that ever told me it's okay to be different."

Gidget nodded. She understood that.
"So she was to you what Scott is to me. I get that." Scott. Her oldest brother, and the man that she understood better than anyone. The only person in her family who ever stood up for her, who supported her choices, even when they were the wrong ones. "How much older was she?"

WR nodded.
"Four years. Shined brighter than the fucking sun, too. Mom's angel, dad's 'ticket', my... everything, really. Part of me's glad she died. Hurt them in a way I never could."
They chuckled at that, then shook their head as they realized how fucked up it sounded.
"Sorry. I just, REALLY hate my parents. Sylvye didn't deserve that. Granted, I didn't deserve it either, but whatever."

Gidget wanted to flinch slightly at their words, but she swallowed the reaction down. Instead, she continued her soothing motions with her thumb, focusing her gaze once more on them.
"What do you mean by ticket?"

"We were just tools to dad. Sylvye was talented, beautiful, intelligent... she excelled at everything she tried, even at such a young age. Brought in money, and dad reveled in it."
They sighed.
"Then there was me."

That was familiar. She sighed softly and nodded.
"What did she like doing the most? Was she a singer, or a dancer?"

WR smiled slightly.
"She was a programmer. You would have liked her."

Gidget's eyes lit up at that, and a smile touched her face. She loved working with programmers.
"Do you think she... would have liked me?"

"Heh, she liked everyone. Was hard to tell what she was thinking with that cold stare of hers, but she could have said something positive about EVERYONE. Never knew someone could be so simultaneously caring and uncaring."
They smiled a bit more, and shook their head.
"But yeah, I think you would've gotten along."

Gidget seemed to relax a little bit.
"What kind of stuff did you two do together? Was she a troublemaker, like you?" she teased.

WR rolled their eyes at that, and sighed as forgotten memories began flooding back.
"She tried to keep me OUT of trouble. Eventually realized she couldn't, so she gave up and started helping me so she could at least keep a better eye on me."
They snickered.
"She was fierce, too. Broke into our neighbors' house, got caught, scolded, and when Sylvye came to my aid they eventually PAID her to stop talking. And I got to keep the money."
