Great Expectations (Xapham/Invite)

[Xapham]

Xapham nodded in understanding.

"And what do you seek to gain with the knowledge you learn here?"

[Avalon Salabim]

"A better life, and better understanding. I have a lot to catch up on, and that includes learning how my abilities work in this world." She ran a thumb along the side of her mug, running along the circumference. "You could say it's a matter of pride that I learn, as well, but if I can continue to develop my abilities here, then it means I can help others who may struggle or if circumstances in the city escalate again." Her word was if, but her tone said when.

[Xapham]

"I see, commendable goals."

He would say with a nod.

"Do you have any plans for when you graduate from here?"

[Avalon Salabim]

She shook her head.

"I'm not sure what my options are."

[Xapham]

"That is understandable, can't say where you going to be when it hard to know where the state of the world will be at that time."

He took a sip of his tea.

"I would like to know a little bit more about you. What's your story?"

[Avalon Salabim]

"Or what the state of this place is at any moment." Avalon nodded, taking another sip of tea.

"My story? I'm from Ayatlan. I've been studying there almost since I can remember, and I did well there." Not a bragging bone in her body or in her tone, the statement as simple as fact. "When conflict started rising up in Cabal and the other territories, I offered my services as a support mage to Cabal Academy with my family's acceptance." If not their approval.

"But I was never enrolled there, not with the attack on the Ark. So I've been trying to acquaint myself with the world here as best I can."

[Xapham]

"I see, I've heard of Ayatlan, very prestigious and definitely explains your knack for learning. I can only hope that my school can keep up with your specific style of learning."

He chuckled.

"Lets see..."

He paused as he thought for a moment taking a sip of his tea.

"Ah, what is the nature of your Qi?"

[Avalon Salabim]

"One can hope." She smiled as she chuckled, fully doubting that the other students would, but anything was possible. While she had met one person who claimed to be a mage outside of her home territory at Cabal, it was clear they had very different methods of doing things. But there was a chance some of the students here could be from Ayatlan, as well.

His words seemed to suggest there weren't any, so there was no point in getting her hopes up at the idea of a familiar face.

"Support and alteration, for the most part. I'm skilled in sensing and manipulating energy flows and how it forms."

[Xapham]

"Would you care to show a small demonstration?"

He asked curiously.

[Avalon Salabim]

"Of course." Avalon took a moment to assess the cup in her hand, figuring it would be best to use it as an example rather than herself. She made note of any decorations painted on it, or gold or other metal besides the ceramic itself. After a moment, she focused her energy, letting it shift the composition of the cup so that it would seem to disappear from sight.

"I can also affect people in the same way. In time, I should be able to affect their strength, for example, or tend to wounds, and hopefully extend this ability, as well." To demonstrate, she gave the side of the now invisible cup a light tap of her finger, the faint sound of physical contact could be heard with the motion as the tea within shifted in its place.

Bonus Level Zero: Moon Shadow ("Ïlon Shedim") – Avalon is able to transform the target, turning them invisible to the eye. This only affects sight, not touch or sound, and those who have a PER equal to or stronger than her ENG can see the affected person like a faded image.

"Ah, I see, very interesting. So, I take it you yourself like to be in a supporting role rather than the lead is that correct?"

Xapham asked curiously.

[Avalon Salabim]

"That's correct." Avalon kept the invisibility on the cup for a while longer, letting her energy fuel the change despite the fatigue. She hoped there would be a way to be free of that one day, or at least become accustomed to it.

He would set down his tea and write down a couple of notes in a notebook closing it soon after.

"You know, I've discovered in my research that more often than not, our Qi and our Personalities are... linked, in a way. I'm not sure which affects which or if it's coincidence but it is still quite interesting."

[Avalon Salabim]

"It seems reasonable for there to be a correlation. It is a part of us, after all. It stands to reason that nature and nurture both can have an affect." She had a strong impression that this academy followed nature and shaped what was already there to its highest potency.

"I would love to see your notes on it sometime." A delicate pause. "Provided you'd be willing to share them, of course."

[Xapham]

He chuckled.

"That will be for advanced courses, but yes, I'm sure you'll be in my Qi studies class in no time."
