Hey, I work about 3-5 hours per day and it's exhausting. Cafes and kids are two very taxing jobs, so I can kind of relate...except my 'kids' are grown adult customers with money and empty stomachs and snippy attitudes. Good luck! Enjoy the paychecks

When I babysit, the kids are amazed by my cell phone. xD That takes their attention away for five minutes, and then we're back to playing "Hide the Sea Shells" (which are really...just..toy balls.. --?) What I do is make them run around for a couple hours (those couple of hours = pain in the butt!) to get them tired so that they fall asleep. But since you're group-sitting for 3-5 hours, dunno how that's going to work out, especially since some of them are in 7th grade.
Anyway!
I'd give you all the patience in the world for these kids if I had that kind of power. Good luck, have fun. x____<;

I work with kids too. I teach sunday school, believe it or not. ;/
Before class, everyone's running around the church like a bunch of wild walrus'. All loud and obnoxious.
What you have to do, is play with them. And play what they want to play. ;/

At least you can shut most adults up if you A: prove them wrong. or B: Have a higher level of intelligence then they do and point that out to them. With kids there is no sure fire way to keep them behaving other than showing them "cool stuff." and well. Half the cool shit I know, the kids arent allowed to do there.. Haha, have you ever tried proving a snobby adult wrong when you're on the clock? That whole 'the customer is always right' phrase seems to be glued into their heads. To them I'm apparently an idiot teenager that doesn't know what I'm doing or purposefully forgetting their orders when they ordered like 7 paninis to go and we only have one panini grill that can handle +-3 at a time. It's not my fault people order stupid things that take forever when their on a time budget. And I'm pretty sure I'm smarter than them, but they have an intelligence that I am stuck working for...lots of money. I swear the first time a saw onnuv'em whip out a hundred dollar bill for a 20 something dollar purchase, I nearly fell over...stupid rich pople. Kids are fun, but tiring as hell. When I babysit my brother, I kind of ignore him (which is easy to do since hes only one person), but if there's more, like his friends come over, I just let them do their own thing because then theyre happy and I don't have to entertain them. I guess all I can suggest Hiro is that you try setting up different stations inside that can play to your charges interests. That way you don't have to try to interest them all in the same thing, and they remain happy..hopefully. >_> ...Why a bar of soap and a sock, Dylan?? o.o'

I recommend playing a movie to get them to shut up. And do not give them any sugar or caffeine...
