The Xic were rather...strange...to the rookie cop who sat silently in the transport ship. A-Class, Lightdrive equipped. Never thought he'd even SEE one.
Police work diddn't pay well, and he had only been employed a week. Now Darien was being shipped off to marry the princess of an Alien race. Of course, this must seem awfully confusing to you. It is to him, as well.
You see, Darien Szark is one of about two hundred humans left in the known universe. Most of the humans crossbred with a biologically compatable species known as "Pikura", millenia ago. Pikura being a species almost identical to humans, but having neon hair colors, and "Adonis" like builds. Only fringe colonies were still "Pure" anything...and most of them were Elven or Dwarven...or even Dragonoid and Martian. We'll save the Xic themselves for later...I'm afraid, as most humans do, you'd judge them by appearance, without giving any thought to accomplishments of the species.
Suffice it to say, however, humans are rare indeed. Any purebred race is. Especially humans, though, due to the vastly out of control sex drive and fetishism displayed by this....irrational, emotional race. Wars have been waged based on the appearance of another species, and in the early days of the Unified Earth Government, before the newly established Human-Xic Federation, the Xic and Earth's many races waged a terrible war...and the Xic nearly lost.
but that is only Earth's dismal history. After the coming of the Pikura, things became better.
Our...hero, as it were, is actually of no consequence at the moment. Rather...before we delve into his history, we need to delve into the universe at large.
As it is, all technology is based on the Elven science of energy manipulation we once called "Magic". Nearly every piece of a Starship is based on the three principals of Magic.
Matter.
Energy.
Expenditure
Through he expenditure of matter and energy, any means can be achieved...or so the Elves belive.
And they are correct. Through these means, they have achieved faster than light travel, and even "Transport" systems. Just being in a planet's orbit, using Elven technology, you can "Beam" yourself to the surface. It's all rather complicated, and I must be getting long winded by now.
But, for now, we have run out of time.....you know, somewhat, the current situation of the universe at large.....another day, I will divulge the past of the Xic, and possibly Darien himself.
