She had managed to get herself back to the hospital. Cuts, bruises...everything was bandaged and taken care of. The doctor's questions were answered with stared and icy glares. She did have one thing done...though it may have been too soon already...
A blood test. To see if she really was pregnant. Only a blood test would be 100% correct. Kate would only trust that kind of test. One of the nurses had gotten her car and things from the school, for some odd reason. More than likely they had looked up her family name, and found out her mother was staying in the same hospital...dying. They were trying to be nice.
The blonde had made one phone call...and only one. To Valekin... simply asking him to come to the hospital. She wasn't in a mood to talk over the phone, but he was the one person she would talk to. The only one.
Kate sat in her hospital bed, sitting in room 438, hugging her knees to her chest. A loose pair of blue jeans, a t-shirt from her 552 cheer leading days. Even her hair was pulled up into a loose ponytail to keep out of her face and away from the bandages. Around her neck, her legs, her back, her chest, her arms...everywhere....
She felt like a fucking mummy.

"Who did this to you, my friend?"
Through Valekin's awesome ninja skills, he had entered the room silently. Not really using awesome ninja skills. Being quiet and stealthy was being himself. He had the tendency to just appear out of no where. No doors would be heard, no windows would be slammed. Not a sound, not a ray. He just... was there. As if coming out of the darkness.
"Are you going to be alright Kate? Do you need anything?"
Valekin had been beside plenty of hospital beds. Though the situations were much different. Usually they were dead or dying, some kind of battle was involved, and the war was escalating more. There was no war here in Long Beach, there was no battle between armies. And he hoped she wasn't dying.

And there he was, just all of a sudden there...asking questions. Kate didn't jump, she just smirked. It was so like him to do such a thing. Her eyes closed for a moment, and then she leaned back on the bed and looked at him. This was going to be a hard thing to tell him...but she would.
"I'm just fine. Beat the fuck up...but I'll live, maybe a little wiser? I don't know. I ran into my ex-boyfriend..."
One hand came up to her throat. Bite marks that had brought blood and torn her pale flesh. At least the collar was gone, that much she could be thankful for.
"I guess I got a little saucey...."
A small little chuckle. She had just been herself. And he... Hiroko had changed so much it had been almost overwhelming. Almost. Why hadn't she just kept her mouth shut?
"I don't know exactly why, but at school..... he just decided he wanted me...and I decided I didn't want him. So...he used force."
And he was so much stronger. So much stronger. That had always been the thing about Hiroko, he was strong. Kate should have just walked away instead of saying his name. Just walked away.

"His name is Hiroko, yes?"
Valekin cracked his knuckles, and smirked on the inside. Finally he'd get to use the home made toys that he had been longing to put to use. They were no longer collecting dust. Though dust is flammable.
"I'm glad you'll be ok. Revenge time is now, maybe I'll burn down his house... or his car.. or both...while he's in them. Yes, good plan."
Oh dear... he was thinking outloud now. This wouldn't go well. Kate was, as far as he knew, not a fan of violence. Where Valekin would PAY to see violence. What a roman at the Colosseum. Either in the crowd, or the gladiator.
"Now... when you say he forced himself on you... do you mean?"
Rape...
That would strike a nerve with the Serb. His sisters were tortured, and raped before they were killed. That crime held a special place of revenge in his black heart.

She cocked an eyebrow at Valekin. The blonde pointed a finger at him, frown appearing on her lips. For the first time in her life, those bright green eyes were glaring daggers at the only person who cared anymore.
"You are not to do anything to him. You will not have my revenge."
It would be hers. And it wouldn't be anything like burning his house down. No...she would leave him alive and slowly take away things from him. If she had kids she'd start with his money. Work on it slowly. The damned bastard didn't even care what he had done to her.
"And yes... he forced himself on me. Without a fucking condom... so I might be pregnant... I'm getting blood work done."
It would take a few weeks. While they were at it, they were testing for stds... take no chances right? The blonde tried to relax , but her neck was itching. Ignoring what all the damned nurses said... the blonde tore off the bandage from around her neck so the little wounds could breath. To Vale...it would have just been more proof of how he had forced himself on her... the marks were deep bites. She lightly scratched at one, frowning to herself as she did. Felt horrid...yet good. Horrid because it hurt, but good because it helped stop the itching.

"Then what do you suggest we do to get him back for it? Hmm? If we aren't going to commence in real war, which is what we do back home. We will have to commence in some other kind of war."
Yea, he was pissed off. Forcing yourself on his only true friend? Bad idea, that put you in a bad spot with someone you know absolutely nothing about. And if kids came of it, those kids would never be his, and Valekin would deprive the man of the children at all costs. As they weren't made out of love.
"Children could complicate this... we'll just have to... wing it? Da?"
Sounded like a plan. If there were children, someone would have to take care of them. Valekin had no idea where to begin, and he figured Kate didn't either. In fact, he was getting ahead of himself. He was just her friend, not her boyfriend, or fiance. Though those kids would be like kids of his own. Since they're the kids of his closest friend. This is getting complicated.

Kate couldn't help but smile. Valekin would be there no matter what. She reached out and cupped his cheek, soft smile still on her lips. The blonde knew she would be fine...with Valekin here.
"I want to bleed him slowly for the rest of his life. We'll just have to figure out how."
If she had a child... well, there were ups and downs to that. It would be wonderful... Kate wanted a family... but she had always wanted that marriage, kids, dog, and white picket fence. There would be a father figure in a way... but Vale didn't think of her like that...and she didn't think of him like that...too often. It had crossed her mind from time to time...only to be shaken out with an amused chuckle. Valekin had no clue when it came to things like that anyways.
"I don't think I'd be a good mother...but if I am pregnant...I'm keeping my child and doing my best."
Never give up, never surrender. Not matter what's going on.

"That's good. If you do have a child, you can bleed him through child support for a while. And then there's always the matter of finishing him off. But it's your revenge not mine. I'll do my best when it comes to the children, I had two younger sisters! That should count for some kind of.... experience. Handling children."
True, he had two younger sisters. Each a year older than he was, and during the teenage years, maturity levels are extremely different from year to year. Therefore... he had little experience dealing with children. More dealing with teens. And even more dealing with rebels. Though sure enough Valekin could be a good father figure for the kiddies. If he didn't scare them.
"You look like a mummy Kate."
It kinda came out "mommy", but more like "moommy", due to his accent. Which made it ironic. But he laughed at his own joke, stroking her head.
"You'll be fine, I'll take care of you."

She laughed, a sweet little chuckle for Valekin. Her eyes closed and for the first time since the hospital she calmed down. The place scared her. Hospitals always had.
It was at this moment that a nurse walked in quickly with a sad frown. Something was up, something was going on. Kate heard the foot steps and opened her eyes. What the fuck was wrong now? Surely the blood results wouldn't be done so soon.
"Miss McHallin? It's your mother dear... I'm afraid... she only has an hour left at most. Did... did you want to see her?"
Had she even told Valekin that her mother was here? No...the blonde didn't think she had. The pale girl stared at her bed sheets for a moment. Her mother. Her step mother really, dying in the same hospital her daughter was in. God must really like to twist fate.
"Yes... Vale, please help me up, it's hard to walk..."
She held a hand out to him, sighing. This would be hard for her to see. Kate hadn't seen her mother since... she was but fourteen years old. And she was turning 19 next week. Already her heart felt as if some one was squeezing it tightly.

Vale was holding on to her hand tightly. If that counted. Her mother was in the hospital? She hadn't told him that. He knew about the whole gang thing and her father getting caught up in a mob. But that was about all he knew about that part of her life. In fact, he thought her mother was dead. Just like his. Two lost little orphans in a hospital. Hee hee.
"Do you have a dollar fifty?"
He asked Kate quietly, so the nurse wouldn't hear him. A dollar fifty was what he believed it cost to pay the ferryman to cross the River Styx to heaven. But that really only applied to soldiers. He was getting mixed up again.

The question caught her off guard. Kate was leaning on him, following the nurse. Down a different kind of hallway, were there was only the sound of machines... no one was speaking here.
"Umm...no?"
Confused as hell. And then they were stopping. She walked into the room, then stopped...clutching onto Vale's hand tightly. The woman on the bed looked nothing like Kate. In fact, they were like night and day. She had raven hair, and dark tanned skin. Her features were beautiful, but very different from Kate. Where the blonde was soft and sweet looking, this woman had a harsher beauty about her. A strong woman.
"Mom...."
Her dying mother. She would be the last McHallin alive after this. But more importantly...her mother would be dead. Just like her real mother. And the tears began. The blonde turned to Vale and pressed her face into his shirt, clinging to him like a child. This hurt her heart more than Hiroko had hurt her actual body. Shot down because her damned father hadn't paid the mob...again. The tears didn't stop.

Vale didn't know what to do except hold her and let her cry into his chest. Aside from that there wasn't much to do or say. He could only be a steady pillar for her, and let her lean on him as she weeped. He rubbed her back gently, unaware of any damage that could have been there. Therefore avoiding harming her.
"Things will be ok Kate. Don't worry, let me handle everything. Alright?"
He'd... handle everything that was to come if she let him. Funeral arrangements, and what not. This was awkward, there was nothing for him to really.. say or do!

She cried until she felt dried out. His clothing would be soaked...but that was that. Wiping the last of the tears from her eyes she looked at her mother once more. The woman her father had married to be a mother in her life.
"She's my step mother. My real mother died in a drive by when I was young. And she was shot in a drive by as well... set up by the mob because of dad. She's been like this since... before I moved to New York..."
Kate explained, numbly staring at the woman on the bed. Her heart rate was going down, slowly fading. There was nothing to do... she had been in a coma for so long. Her grip on Vale's hand never ceased as she stared.
Until finaly...the woman just stopped breathing. Her heart stopped...she left. The nurse unplugged the machine, and pulled a sheet over her body. There was nothing left.
"All I have now is you Valekin."
Kate was broken, at least for the moment. With everything that happened today...last night... she was just broken. She felt like an empty husk after crying so much. All she had was Vale.

"There's nothing we can do about that. I promise I won't be dying any time at all. I plan on living as long as I'm needed."
He sighed, and squeezed her hand, careful not to scratch her with his claws. She was gone, and all Kate had now was him. Well... what was there to do about that? Nothing much really. Valekin couldn't be replaced. He was as unique as an individual grain of sand.
"Do you want to stay a while?"
Valekin understood how she felt. He lost a mother, a father, his siblings. But all to his own actions. He was the Harbinger of their deaths. Their losses were his fault. All of them. That's what he truly believed, and that's why he actively sought revenge.

"No...let's go. I don't want to stay here."
She didn't want to be in the hospital. Didn't want to be anywhere around here. Too many memories, and this was just another added into it. She felt numb...but at least she still had Valekin.
If she ever lost him...her mind would break. The nurse quietly explained that they could pick up Kate's things at the front desk and that it was alright to go home. Even though Valekin's mere appearance scared the lady, she tried.
Kate just held Vale's hand, feelings like a small child again. Like she had holding her real mother's hand before she died. They had been so happy...
"Let's go home Vale...please."
