The answer of Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington's is possibly yes. But I doubt it'll be anytime soon. I'm not really sold on Washington saying that he is in therapy for being homophobic. Honestly, I can't buy any means of amends and apology that includes the person seeking some sort of therapy or rehab. Last that I checked, homophobia is basically an irrational fear and a viewpoint. It's not a mental condition that you would need to seek therapy for.
Mental conditions such as schizophrenia, ADD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, etc are things you would seek therapy for. For homophobia, yeah right? Because it's not a mental condition at all. There are plenty of people that used to be homophobic. Though it took them time to accept gays as normal everyday people, they didn't require some sort of "therapy" or "rehab." Last I checked, I didn't read up on any rehab that treats homophobia. Homophobia is just a viewpoint. Going to rehab for homophobia is like going to some bs rehab to treat you for being a Republican, Democrat, etc.
But yes, it's possible for Isaiah Washington to make amends with the gay community. However, saying stuff like going to therapy or rehab isn't going to help. Therapy and rehab are for people who have serious problems. On TV, Washington doesn't look as if he any serious problems. But making amends is one thing, the aftermath is another thing. The damage has already been done. Not only did it put Washington on bad terms with the gay and lesbian community, it also put him on bad terms with most of his co-stars. Something like that will create tension amongst the cast.
Me being a stage actor, tensions can make it hard for people to work together. He could possibly save his career in acting by making amends. But there's still the chance that the damage is too great for him to keep his job as a major cast member in Grey's Anatomy. Keep in mind a good amount of revenue the shows make come from sponsors who buy commercial space from the networks.
You alienate a large group of people, expect a large group of people not to tune into your show next time. They'll tune into other shows that have cast members that do not make prejudicial remarks in real life. When a show loses its viewers, sponsors aren't going to vie for commercial space on that show anymore. At the same time, you can possibly offend sponsors with such remarks. In turn, the network is going to lose revenue from those sponsors and they won't have enough to fund and maintain those shows.
Asides from the personal aspect, you have to look at the business side of things as well. In the world of entertainment is very different from the world of baseball. In baseball, it's three strikes and you're out. In the world of entertainment, it's usually one strike and you're out, two strikes if you're lucky enough.
