At first as a kid I started out with PC games. This was at the time where it was cool to hang out at the local video arcade and play the latest fighting games. Over the years since my Uncle Mao bought me a Sega Saturn around '96 a still very popular game console in Japan, I started to make the transgression from PC to gaming console. It was during the time where I was getting more into the fighting games such as Street Fighter Alpha, Tekken 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I started getting one-on-one fighting games for my Sega Saturn.
The games were pretty good on the Saturn. The fighting games I currently have for my Saturn are: Battle Arena Toshinden: Ura, Street Fighter Alpha, Rise of the Robots 2: Resurrection, Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Fighter Remix, Last Bronx, Golden Axe: The Duel, and X-Men: Chidren of the Atom. I only have eight fighting games for my Sega Saturn, but I hope to increase my collection in the near future when I get more cash. I enjoyed playing all sorts of fighting games. Fighting games alone drew me more towards the gaming consoles instead of the PC.
And then Uncle Mao bought me a Playstation the next year. I guess from there I started building up a game collection for my Playstation system. Until I started college, I had only the Sega Saturn and the Playstation game consoles. Then new fighting games came out. Me being an avid fan of fighting games, I went and bought a Sega Dreamcast. They had some good fighting games for the Dreamcast such as the Street Fighter III series and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. With all sorts of fighting titles, it had kept me a console gamer.
Then I went and got an X-Box. First game I got for my X-Box was Dead or Alive 3. Yes, the first game I wanted to get was a fighting game. It was fighting games and fighting games alone being the reason of me being a console gamer. Then I went and got a Nintendo Gamecube and a Playstation 2 months after that. I still am in the process of building up a major fighting game collection.
When I look at it, it's easier to play fighting games on a console rather than a PC. There are way more fighting games for the gaming consoles and not for the PC. I have a few game emulators on my laptop that allow me to play arcade fighting games. But since I don't have a game pad for my laptop yet, I have to use a keyboard. Keyboard controls can get pretty frustrating when using it for a fighting game.
Asides from fighting games, there are plenty of games that are better played on the consoles than on the PC. Mainly due to the differences in controls. When playing a game like Resident Evil, I can do actions easier with a game pad than with a keyboard.
With games like Resident Evil, you're going to have to be able to input actions easily. If not, you're character's going to get killed.
If you're not into fighting, action, or survival horror games, there are still plenty of game genres and game titles out for your game consoles that a PC does not have. In a nutshell there are genres of games best played on the PC yet there are many more genres of games that are best played on a gaming console.
