"Drink Drank Drunk" is a Chinese romantic-comedy written and directed by Derek Yee that takes place in Hong Kong. The movie starts two of Hong Kong's most notable actors Daniel Wu and Miriam Yeung as the main protagonists of Drink-Drank-Drunk. The movie revolves around an interesting premise, which is beer. Shows that people drink beer whether one is happy or one is sad. That premise is really no different to what goes on everyday. Because we do drink whether we're happy or sad.
Daniel Wu stars as Michel/Micheal a French-Chinese chef down on his luck owning a restaurant that hadn't made any business while Miriam Yeung stars as Siu-Min a sassy beer promotion girl that goes out to various restaurants trying to promote and sell beer. The Budweiser brand seemed to take an interest in the film since they product and label was very visible throughout most of the movie such as a van that takes the beer girls around, the beer girls' uniforms, and most importantly the beer itself. It was pretty good product placement on Budweiser's part.
Most of the story revolves Michel and Siu-Min reaching an agreement on working with the restaurant and eventually becoming lovers. Michel is pretty much torn between travelling the world or staying with Siu-Min and continuing the restaurant.
The one thing Drink Drank Drunk that we can relate to is the alcohol part. To Michel, when you're sober you can say "I love you" and not mean it. To Siu-Min, she rather have a sober person tell her "I love you." Mainly because she firmly believes you can't trust a word that comes out of the mouth of a drunk man. They're both at odds on that philosophy. During one scene with Hu Jing who plays Julie a successful restaurant owner, Michel learns of the ugliness within Julie's heart after she's had a few glasses of wine.
We can relate with this, alcohol pretty much brings in our "true" selves because we've lost all inhibitiions. That's one of the biggest morals that Drink Drank Drunk brings to the audience and it's a good moral to learn. There are some humorous scenes such as Siu-Min's friends trying to get her drunk. In the whole movie, Siu-Min had not gotten drunk once which her character's nickname is "Ms. Never Drunk" of Wan Chai Harbor.
Overall, Drink Drank Drunk is an interesting movie that's worth renting.
