His grandfather's farm, he hadn't realized how much work it took to run one. There was supplies, equipment maintenance, worker pay and care, paperwork to ensure that the crops had some place to go when they were harvested, animal care, and the list went on. He sighed as he sipped his coffee and listened as the foreman talked about the latest issue. The man in charge of taking care of the horses had just lost his two assistants as they had left for college and he was taking care of the horses alone. Normally that wouldn't be as much of a problem except that it left the man with little time to work on training the different star breeders of the stable. Apparently there were several distinct pedigrees in his grandfather's stable.
So he needed to hire new hands to help out with the horses, at least two. He also was thinking about hiring someone to start giving riding lessons for those interested to allow for the horses of a less distinguish breeding to get a little bit more attention and exercise. And that was just the horses, one very small part of the farm. He had some sort of hoof disease infecting there cows and the vet was telling him it could spread if the source of the disease wasn't found. He rubbed his eyes as he looked at the grazing fields he had closed down as they were being sprayed to make sure that none of the other animal got whatever it was that the infected cows had.
"So what's next on the agenda?" He looked over to the foreman who was busy eating a plate with eggs and bacon. (A couple of interviews for the stable hands, meeting with the lawyer because your aunts and uncle are lodging another complaint with the courts saying your grandfather was unsound of mind when he gave you the farm and we got pest problems in the groves.) Eric just looked up at James. "Just one problem after another isn't it?"
